December 25th and 26th, 2009: Christmas

Hello my pretties!  Did we all have a very happy holiday?  Christmas day was rocking at the HQ!

Me and Rocky

Christmas eve we practiced opening gifts to get ready for the big morning.  We worked on the gifts my mom sent which were food items and Pens gear.  Score!

She got us a boxed of mixed chocolates.  While I’m definitely a fan of dark chocolate over milk chocolate, I have a soft spot for a box of mixed chocolates.

I remember my grandmother always had a box of chocolates around for the holidays and this was back before you got a cheat sheet of what the chocolate was, so you had to take your chances.  Sometimes you won, and sometimes you got the toothpaste flavored one.  If you like Jim Gaffigan, then you know he refers to these chocolates as gamble chocolates. :p  I love gamble chocolates!  They remind me of my grandma.

Red wine

Christmas eve, I had three gamble chocolates along with some red wine.

Christmas day I had thought about running but it was a very rainy and windy day so instead I kicked it with some 30 day shred.  After that was done, I woke up Scott and had a small Christmas snacky.

Coffee, yogurt and granola, nut roll

Yogurt and granola with my coffee along with 3 nut rolls.  Mmmm perfect with coffee!

Rocky Rocky

Then we got to opening gifts!  Rocky goes first so he can play with his new toys while we open our gifts.  This year was the year of kitchen wares and practicality.  Scott purchased me a bunch of things I desperately needed and wanted.  If you follow me on Facebook, you know that one of my packages was 34lbs. Oh my!  That ended up being a brand new jewelry box which is lovely!

Waffles, sausage, and fruit

He also bought me a waffle iron that has removable griddles which are reversible.  You can make waffles or use the other side as an actual griddle.  I love it!  I tested it out right away.

I made some gingerbread waffles which were fantastic!

We had that along with some chicken breakfast sausage and a huge fruit salad with yogurt.  It had oranges, apples, and banana in it.  I had another waffle after clearing my plate quickly.

The rest of the day was spent looking at our stuff, chatting with family, and playing with Rocky.

Then I got Christmas dinner started.  Ooooo so good!  Scott request a snack while dinner cooked.

Crackers, cheese, and fruit White cheddar flax crackers, dried apricots, and a new cheese.

Tuscan cheddar cheese I had seen this in Sam’s several times and finally decided to buy some.  It’s a white cheddar that has been hand rubbed with different seasonings, like garlic, dried peppers, and oregano.  It’s amazing!  The flavor is subtle and hits you at the end.  The cheese is very smooth and creamy for a cheddar, not much of a bite to it.

Carrot exposed While prepping dinner, I tried not to get too offended at the carrot who couldn’t control himself.

Salad, roast, carrots, mased potatoes

One of our traditions is to have a standing rib roast on Christmas and this year was no exception.  I roasted that bad boy in the oven for a bit and served it with a horseradish cream sauce.

  • 2% Fage
  • Whole grain mustard
  • Tons of horseradish

We also had some roasted carrots and purple mashed potatoes!  I just used purple potatoes for that and they turned out spectacular.  I had small portions of everything plus a salad on the side.  Pretty standard salad.

The wine we had with dinner was a claret by Coppola vineyards.  We love this wine!  It’s so smooth and buttery for a red.  If you like reds, definitely give this a try.

I had some wine and some more gamble chocolates when we finally relaxed on the couch at 10pm. We watched a movie and then I headed up to bed.

I was going to run today but it was really windy outside this morning and I decided to pull a rest day.  I have been going nonstop all week it seems and I really just wanted a rest and to do nothing.  So I did. :p

Scott bought me an oatmeal pot!  I put that to use this morning and made my first batch of oatmeal with it.

Coffee and oatmeal

Along with some coffee and plenty of couch sitting.  I watched some stuff on TV for a bit.  I needed some fresh air and took Rocky out for an hour long walk.  When we got back, I cleaned up the dishes, got dressed for the day and poured myself another cup of coffee.

Scott was up by this point and he watched a bit of TV with me.  When left to my own devices, I am a NatGeo, Discovery, and A&E dork.  That is usually what you’ll find me watching.  Thankfully Scott is down with that stuff and doesn’t mind chilling with me.  Eventually around 2ish, I put together some lunch for us.

Smoothie, veggies, pizza, fruit

I had some leftover pizza, veggies, and a bolthouse green goodness smoothie.  I’m trying to keep things light and clean today.  You may think, “pizza?  clean?”  Well yeah, since I made it, I know what’s in it. ;)  I went with bolthouse today because there are some extra things in that smoothie, like spirulina, which I don’t have to add to my smoothies.

The rest of the day was spent gaming and I won’t bore you with those details. :p  Unless you game and wanna know.  :D

Dinner today was super easy!  Leftovers for Scott and a Hugh Jass for moi.

Salad and bread In the middle was also some toasted bread with the leftover pesto that didn’t make it to Thursday’s pizza and some tuscan cheese for Scott.  I had only a very small bite of it since I was having goat cheese on my salad.

  • Mixed greens
  • Red onion
  • Shredded carrot
  • Cucumber
  • Corn
  • Walnuts
  • Goat cheese

Balsamic/honey/olive oil.

Now it’s 10pm and I heading up to bed to read for a bit!  *fingerscrossed* I get a great run in tomorrow AM because I need some cardio action STAT!

I hope you all had a fantastic holiday filled with laughter, good food, and loved ones. :D  As I start to use my presents, I’ll for sure share what they are!  Till tomorrow!
