Vacation Dreaming

This has been a huge year for Scott and I and we’re not even done with it yet. We’ve had a lot of personal growth and a lot of discussions on where our lives are and where we’d like to see them go.

Both personally and professionally.

Big things are happening and it has both of us excited!

And also a little stressed out.  Exciting can be tiring!

I think it was over lunch or maybe it was over dinner, regardless, the idea of taking a vacation came up.

“A vacation?! REALLY?!  Can we do this?”

Because we haven’t taken a vacation in years.  No seriously, years.  There’s always been one reason or another why we couldn’t leave.  Looking back, I realize now that our “reasons” were just excuses.  Because just like with everything in life, if you want it, you have to make the time for it.

You can’t wait for stuff to happen.  Living is doing, am I right?

Wellness doesn’t just come in the form of food.  It is all encompassing.  Wellness is how we live our lives. How we treat our minds and our bodies.

Both Scott and I beleive in this fully, and so we decided that it’s time for a real vacation.  Time for a break and time to regroup and gather focus.  Clarity.

Time to go on a trip away from here.

By away, I mean away from Ohio.  None of this vacationing in Ohio business.  It’s time to journey forth and leave the MidWest.

It’s time to see some mountains.

We’ll be traveling in the spring so vacation is still a ways away.  But we’ve got a lot to do to prepare for it so the time will fly by quickly.

I’m pretty much preoccupied with the vacation at this point.  It’s all I can think about and all that I want to think about.

Both of us need a break so bad we can taste it.

I want to see some new scenery.  I want to hike and run in the mountains.  I want to get the heck outta here for just a little while.

Have you ever felt this way?  Where you just need to walk away and take a break for a bit?

Where are we going?  Some know already because I’ve talked with you about it, but for those that don’t, you’ll have to stay tuned.  FE Vacation Destination will be revealed in another post! Along with discussing traveling with your pet!

Do you take vacations? Do you think vacations are necessary to help de-stress and maintain life balance?

  1. As you know Chip and I took our first vacation ever a month ago. After 8 years of marriage it was time. No more reasons. I booked it in April with most things pre paid so we didn’t have to worry about the reality of the bills when we returned.
We are blessed with a wonderful house and dog sitter and he does a great job and because of that it gave me the assurance that we could leave town for pleasure and nothing bad would happen.
It was great!! Can’t wait to see where you guys are going.

  2. Nicole says:

We go up to the lake every year for a day or two to see family, and we always take time off between Christmas and New Years to just hang out around the house. This year we went to DC, which was totally awesome. J has already mentioned saving up vacation time for a trip next summer, but I don’t know where- plenty of time to plan!

When we take vacations, we want them to be relaxing, so we don’t spend a bunch of time running around trying to see/do everything. Plus we make sure to take extra time to unwind at home if we’ve been traveling. Otherwise it’s not restful vacation.

  3. I am so excited for you and Scott. It sounds like you really need this. It will be nice to reflect on such a powerful year together while in the mountains. I can’t wait to see pictures.

This summer, I splurged and went to the Caribbean with some friends. They helped pay my way, and initially I felt guilty about it. But after paying them back (the guilt gone), I’ve been realizing how important that vacation was. Prior to that, I hadn’t been anywhere in years. It’s really important to get away!

  4. The Husband and I consider vacations a necessity! Things may change now that we’re moving to Vancouver but at least while we’ve lived in a small Rocky Mountain town we use our getaways to let us enjoy the city, explore different cultures, or to see the Ocean again.

This is going to sound really terrible but we’re going on a vacation in a month and I can’t believe I haven’t been on one since the end of July!!!! We usually take at least mini-vacations.

But you know what, I think I’m looking forward to feeling less of a need to go away in the near future! :)

  5. Traveling is very, very important to me – for my interests and my sanity! Even years like this one, when a “big” trip was out of the picture due to house-buying, we still took several smaller 3-day trips – to Memphis, camping in Northern Michigan, and to see a friend in North Carolina. We generally try to do one in Feb around my husband’s bday (the time of year when I am dying of the winter blahs), one in the summer, and one in the fall around our anniversary. Plus always several road trip to see family, and chill time off over Xmas/NYE, but those “vacations” don’t count toward my “must travel” requirement.

I make it work by setting aside a small amount of money from every paycheck into a travel-designated savings acct that is enough to fund these mini-getaways; bigger trips get budgeted for with larger savings, obviously.

Can’t wait to hear where you’re going!

  6. So glad you are fitting in a vacation! As you know, travel is an essential part of my life. I have two categories – travel/trips and vacation. For our travel we go, go, go, site seeing, etc. For vacation, we do nothing. We take at least one vacay a year. As far as travel goes, it varies from one year to the next, but I’ll take as much as I can get!
