When it comes to eating healthy and eating real food, I admit that I love smashing all the “rules” that are forced upon us from out of no where.
One of my favorite rules to break is the:
You can’t eat chocolate for breakfast.
Who started this nonsense? More importantly, why in the world do we listen to it?
Chocolate is a perfectly acceptable breakfast ingredient. It’s a nice little treat and a lovely little surprise to start our day.
It makes ordinary things a lot more special. And a lot more yummy!
While I admit that chocolate isn’t something I want everyday for breakfast, I certainly don’t think it should only be regulated to desserts or as an after dinner treat.
Chocolate can be used in a variety of ways and should be embraced a lot more openly!
We can have chocolate any time we want!
Some ways that we like chocolate:
So tell me, how do you like your chocolate? Do you ever have it for breakfast or dinner?
I think chocolate works anytime. I really like adding it in with breakfast on days when I need something special. There’s really not a bad time to eat chocolate, as long as it’s good quality chocolate.
Heidi, I agree! Don’t put chocolate in a corner!
I’ll admit that there’s a thin line between breakfast and early-morning dessert, but unless there’s some dried fruit around, chocolate chips manage to make their way into oatmeal and Nutella on toast is just “mmmmm.”
Mike, right, obviously one shouldn’t go too crazy with the early morning chocolate. But it’s a nice treat every once in a while.
I had it for breakfast this morning! Nutella on my pumpkin protein pancakes – it’s all about the balance.
Heather, yes balance and working with food instead of against it is key.
I love chocolate for breakfast! not every day, but it’s a fun treat, especially on oatmeal or in yogurt or in pancakes.
Brandi, me too! I agree it’s not an everyday occurrence but it sure does liven things up on occasion.
Yay! Absolutely agree. I always throw a few dark chocolate chips in my breakfast trail mix with nuts and cranberries and I like to add cocoa powder and pb to my oatmeal.
I love adding dark cocoa to my smoothies, especially if I add greens. Makes it feel like a treat, and you don’t even notice the “earthy” green flavour.
