Red Gold Tomato Products

Last month I was contacted by Red Gold asking if I would like to receive a gift box and try out their products.  I eagerly accepted because one thing I go through quickly here at the HQ is tomato products.  Next to beans and stock, they are the most consumed canned good.

I’ve tried Red Gold products in the past and have been pleased with them.  They are also one of the few companies that does not put HFCS in their canned tomatoes. Bonus!

Read the labels of the canned tomatoes you purchase and see if they contain HFCS.  Most do and a few will only contain sugar.  It was one of the products that surprised me the most when I started reading labels more.

Okay, sorry for the tangent! Getting back on target, I got the gift pack in mail and was surprised by all the goodies that it contained.

The gift pack contained:

  • 4 cans of tomato products
  • 1 bottle of ketchup
  • Magnet for the fridge
  • Keychain
  • Recipe book
  • Reusable grocery bag (which is really durable!)

I got busy that night cooking with diced tomatoes and green chilies.

I basically made a different version of this.  The outcome was a lovely mix of veggies and beans with a spicy kick at the end.  I don’t often buy the diced tomatoes with green chilies but now I just might have to start picking some up!

The price of Red Gold tomatoes are a bit more expensive than other brands.  However you’re getting a sound tomato product that doesn’t contain HFCS.

Their ketchup is a different story and that does contain HFCS so we have not used that product.  But the diced tomatoes and whole peeled tomatoes do not.

Thank you Red Gold for the gift pack and allowing me to share my experience!

Do you use canned diced tomatoes?  Do you can your own? I would like to get to that point but right now I purchase. They are extremely handy to have in the pantry!

Disclaimer: Red Gold sent me these products for free and I was under no obligation to talk about them. All opinions and statements are my own.

  1. I hope to can my own tomatoes this summer now that we have more room for a bigger garden, but I buy them, too. I use them in everything!

I’ve never seen this brand here.

  2. I plan to try canning this year…after taking a class. I’m so worried that I’ll explode something!

I have Muir Glen tomatoes on hand all the time, stocking up when they’re on sale + coupons. The fire-roasted ones are my favorite, giving a nice smokiness to chili.

  3. They contacted me too – can’t wait to receive my goodie box! :) Also, your post made me get up and go into the pantry to check the tomatoes I currently have (down to one can, eek) – thank goodness there’s no HFCS in there either.

  4. I’ve canned with my parents before. It’s a lot of hard work but super rewarding! Nothing as amazing as having your own tomato sauce (that’s what they make).

They buy their tomatoes ’cause frankly as Hispanics we eat SO MANY tomatoes that they can’t possibly grown enough on their 40 tomato plants. BTW San Marzano are the best!

  5. I love Red Gold. Maybe it’s an Indiana thing– they’re canned here and the shelves at the Grocery Ranch are filled with ’em, but the standard 14-15 oz cans are fairly cheap ($1.00 per can) for a good part of the year.

Since you mentioned added HFCS and sugar, I checked the generic store brand canned tomatoes (Food Club) that I buy and was pleasantly surprised to find that there was no sugar or HFCS in them either. I think you’d be hard pressed to find ketchup without HFCS unless you go organic or high end.
