DVD Land

This past week I’ve been lost in the land of workout DVDs.  I only got to run once and I’m trying with all my might not to be frustrated about that.

So far I am not succeeding.

We got our first batch of winter weather this week.  Nothing crazy, just a tad bit of snow.  Despite the fact that it snowed several days this week, we only have a dusting which doesn’t last very long.  Just staying around long enough for you to catch a glimpse, then it’s gone till the next day.

This morning I woke up to this on the deck, which I walked all over in my sleepy stupor because Rocky got me up at 5am (fun!).  Sorry Scott!  I took a pic of it before it melted!

It wasn’t the snow or the cold that has been keeping me inside this week, you all know I can kick some winter butt.  It’s been the wind.  The wind has kept me from running and instead I’ve been doing workout DVDs.

Thank goodness I just ordered some new ones to test out and add to my library!

I did DVDs three times this week, including today because wind kept me from enjoying a long run.  I was really looking forward to a long run this morning and when I realized that wasn’t going to happen I almost cried.

Could I be any more dramatic?  It’s slightly ridiculous, I know, but this past week has been a tad bit stressful and busy. In order to sort of ground and reset myself, I run.  That’s my “me” time where I clear my head, destress, and work through anything that needs attention.  Not getting a chance to do that this week has left me feeling off balance.

I still worked out, focusing more on strength and stretching with small amounts of cardio worked in.  I had to have some cardio because I’m a cardio fiend, and need to get that sweat and heart-rate going for me to feel like I accomplished something.

This week was definitely a test in patience and I was pushed out of my comfort zone. Running four times a week is my happy place. Running once a week is stressful.  Instead of doing nothing and pouting, I did something else (though I still pouted).

Is it the end of the world? Obviously not and tomorrow starts a brand new week.

Do you have a preferred type of exercise? What do you do if you’re unable to do it that day or that week?

  1. We’ve returned from our honeymoon and have been greeted by massive amounts of snow and a good amount of ice. No running for me.

Since I don’t love running on a treadmill I’ve been reconsidering my cardio options. I’m going to head to the gym in a bit and experiment with some other machines but I’ve also been considering purchasing Turbo Jam or something along those lines.

  2. I understand the “almost crying” thing. But, sounds like you made lemonade out of those lemons… way to go! Hope the winds die down for you so that you can get out for some runs :)

  3. Running outdoors is no longer in the cards for me until Spring. There is nothing I hate more than running in the cold. And ever since we moved in with my parents, I haven’t been able to run on the treadmill in the mornings so I’ve been using workout DVD’s to supplement. I think its a good reminder that sometimes, I need to focus on other forms of exercise other than running. I get so ingrained on just running X number of miles a week and now I’m just running when I can.

Hope you enjoy some new DVDs and learn some new moves. Your body will actually become so much stronger because of the variety.

  4. I like working out at home. Yoga, kickboxing, jackie warner power circuits. Leaving the house is tough for me…

I get my DVDs from the library so I can try them out and not have to worry if they suck.

I’m a little jealous of your “dusting” of snow- we have about a foot alrady in MN :)
