Down and out

Hi gang! I’ve been away from the computer but not intentionally. Last Thursday I came down with some sort of stomach bug and have been ill since.  The upside was that I was just nauseous and not actually expelling things from my body.  I was flat out in bed all day Thursday and Friday.  Yesterday was the first day where I was up on a normal schedule and not sleeping the day away.  It was also the first day that I left the house.

I had been living on canned soup (thank goodness for crappy canned soup!), crackers, and OJ.  I was hungry but not able to eat much.  My stomach couldn’t handle it, since it was still queasy and if I had to chew something more than twice I started getting gaggy.

Being hungry and unable to eat sucks.  Especially when you love food!

Yesterday evening I was finally feeling on my way back to normal.  I decided I’d had it with being sick and kicked sick to the curb!

I made pan seared chicken breasts with gravy, mashed potatoes, and basic green beans.

And I ATE a full plate!  Then I had some chocolate and a wee (very wee!) splash of wine.

After that I crashed hard in bed. Normally I wake up in the middle of the night for a bathroom run.  Last night?  Nothing.  I was out from 11pm to 6am (or the old 7am).  That’s a lot of straight sleep for me!

I dedicated today as the last day of “rest” before getting back into action.  I miss working (seriously!) and I miss working out.  Today when I got up I was starving and I wanted to eat.

Progress!

I felt normal.  I had a yogurt mess with some coffee.  I haven’t had coffee in days because I couldn’t handle it.  Today I cherished that cup of coffee.  I walked Rocky and then had even more food.

Hooray!

Being sick stinks no matter what.  But for me, the worst is being able to not eat.  I love eating.  I love food.  I love being able to enjoy the foods that make me and my body happy.

When I can’t eat, I get really bummed out.  When I can’t workout, I get really bummed out.

Now it’s time to enjoy being able to do all those things again!

How do you handle being sick? Does it bum you out as well?

  1. Glad you are starting to feel better! Ever since I started getting the flu shot, I’ve never been sick – I think its been 10 years since I actually had to take a sick day at work – now I use my sick days for doctor appointments (just learned I could do that!)

  2. I hope you feel 100% better now! I have to bum it out too. I took yesterday off, and I still have some weird stomach pains today. Did I get it from you? Ha ha :P

  3. So glad you are feeling better. Weird, coffee was the final thing I could come back to after all my yuck as well. I made it for several days once I was back to work, but just couldn’t drink it. Now I’m cherishing it again, though. :) I love that picture!
