Pizza Thursday Report for May 6th, 2010

Hiya gang!  I was starving last night by the time we ate dinner!  Scott quickly mowed the lawn and then I cut his hair.  Finally after his shower we could get the pizza in the oven!  I’m not coordinated enough to put it on the pizza stone myself, I need assistance.  Then we watched the Pens lose to the Habs.  Booo

Here are the stats:

  • Spelt crust
  • Pizza sauce
  • Moz
  • Carrot
  • Red onion
  • Green pepper
  • Mushrooms (Scott’s side)
  • Pineapple(!!)
  • BBQ sauce

I did the crust a little differently and used 2C of spelt and 1C of the white whole wheat.  It was good but very dense and heavy!  The 1C of unbleached all-purpose that I normally use definitely keeps the dough a little bit lighter.  I’m probably going to stick with that.  I seasoned it up with some red pepper flakes and Italian seasoning.

And listen friends, this was the first time I ever had pineapple on my pizza!  I know, can you believe that!  I was always afraid it would be a little too sweet and the concept of the addition of fruit on the pizza just threw me off.

However I loved it!  It definitely was sweet but it was a nice little bit of sweetness here and there.  Not something I’ll do all the time but for sure something to bust out every so often.  I kicked back four pieces because I was hungry!

Then I drowned my sorrows in some wine while watching the game.

Quick hockey lesson, do you know why the Montreal Canadiens are called “Habs”?

Habs is short for Le Habitants which was a term used to referr to French settlers and inhabitents of French origin who were farmers along the St. Lawerance River.  Clearly I’m giving you the super short history lesson.  ;)  The term is no longer used however the hockey team adopted the term and uses it as a nickname.  So if you ever hear the Montreal Canadiens referred to as the Habs, now you know why!

  1. Omi- I am loving your pizza combos. Especially the bbq sauce. I really want to try that sometime. I am not so brave about trying the pineapple though. I have had it once on pizza and couldn’t do it. It’s a weird texture thing for me. But glad you tried something new and liked it. Three cheers for that! :)

  2. All about the bbq sauce and pineapple. Great combo this week. I don’t think I told you that I tried your spelt crust a few weeks ago. Fantastic!
