Different paths

Hi guys!  I’ve been thinking a lot about OHC lately and what I would like for it to become and what I would like to talk about.  I’m sort of leaning away from the daily eats posts.  Mostly because I don’t really have that much to talk about in regards to the minutia of my day.  I ate, I walked Rocky, and I ate some more.  The end.

Snore fest.

And I’m just not really feeling those posts anymore.  Part of the reason is that I also don’t want to bring in discussion topics in those posts.  For me personally, I feel like discussion worthy topics should get their own posts to highlight them.  I don’t know if that makes sense to anyone else but me. :p  I am very much a compartmentalized type of personality.  I like things to be neat and orderly.  Things that are worth a big “discussion” should be in their own category while what I ate for lunch should be in its own category.  Because of that mentality, my daily eats posts are full of nothing.  The content is not there and I’m not feeling happy with them.  Therefore I want to maybe put them away for a little while and focus on some other things.

What I would like to do is talk about varying topics in regards to food.  I want to have more time to focus on Tips and Reviews but also recipes and my training.  I’m thinking of putting up a weekly training post instead of daily.  I haven’t worked out all the kinks yet, mostly I’m trying to feel my way through and discover what works and what I like doing.

Rose said something in a post the other day that a reader described her blog as a Life Blog with a food emphasis.  This is what I would like OHC to be.  I want it to be a Life Blog discussing lots of things with an emphasis on food and exercise.  Where along with silly little life stories there are recipes and food reviews and so on.  The OHC tagline is “Food, wine, running, life…” And I really should be sticking with that more I think.  Right now I’m not feeling like my blog fits that tagline.

My daily eats posts were for me in the very beginning.  They helped me keep track of what I was eating and work through my food issues so I could figure out what works for me and what does not.  I’m now at a point where I’m pretty confident in my food choices and with knowing my body.  For a while I kept them going because I thought that other people liked them and/or could benefit from them.  However, now as I write them, I know there is nothing substantial there.  The content isn’t good, or let me rephrase, I’m not happy with the content and therefore I don’t feel happy when I publish it.  I feel like I’m writing it just to get it done and up.

That’s not really okay with me.  Like some other bloggers, I would rather have quality over quanity here at OHC.  I’ve got standards! ;)

I’m just giving you a heads up in case you’re wondering why all of the sudden I’m just blabbing away instead of talking to you about smoothies.  Of course Pizza Thursday will always get talked about because OHC started it and it’s exciting!

I hope that you will stick around but I understand if you don’t because the new content isn’t your thing.  Feedback is always welcome!

  1. I know I can be honest with you because we are Facebook friends, which is the true sign of a deep and lasting bond ;) I read your blog everyday, and I get little glimpses of YOU between salads, oats and wine and cookies and that is always what I want MORE of! Here’s where the honest part comes in, a lot of times I skip the food part altogether and just get to the meat of YOU (not the real meat, of course).

    So in other words: YAY!!!!

    • Mama to the P, you are right that is a true sign of friendship if there ever was one. :D I appreciate your honesty and you are not the first person to tell me that you skip over the food part. Ha! And if I’m being honest, I do that with food blogs a lot. However when you post a recipe I do make a point to read it because it’s vegan and vegan recipes interest me.

  2. I have actually been pondering the same thing regarding my own blog. I feel like my content is lacking and my daily eats posts aren’t as interesting as I’d like them to be.

When I read blogs, I want to be able to get to know someone through their writing. Even before we met, I felt like I knew parts of your personality through your writing. So obviously, I will read no matter how you change things up!

  3. I completely agree with Mama P. I read your blog because of you, and I know this sounds sappy, but I really don’t care what you write about because I’m reading to see your voice and your life (food, working out, wine – those are all parts of that). So I guess this is my way of saying – rock the new idea. I think it will be great.

  4. I love reading about you and all of your discussion topics. Yes, your smoothies and salads and pizza are always entirely wonderful to look at, but I agree, you do eat the same things on a regular basis, which is TOTALLY awesome, but if you are getting bored with posting these things, than it’s really just creating more work for you than is necessary. This blog should be about what you are passionate about. You obviously have such a strong voice and heavy influence with your words and insight. I say, GO FOR IT! We are all behind you! :)

  5. This change sounds awesome. Honestly, I have a hard time picking up all the life bits between the food, and commenting on everything. I try to keep my posts to one (or two) topics because I have such a hard time remembering everything I read on other blogs posts that are jam-packed!

I hope that didn’t come off mean. I just… know what you are saying :) I would love to read your “big discussion” posts.

And, whatever you do, I will still be reading it! :)

  6. i agree with mama pea as well – the consistent food posts can get really repetitive, and sometimes makes me loose my passion for blogging. I’m so excited about hte new direction of your blog. I think you are an amazing person and I cant wait to read more =)

  7. I am here to stay! I am very compartmentalized as well, so I can relate to how you feel about wanting to separate your posts. While I enjoy most daily eats posts (because I need ideas sometimes!), I love “discussion-provoking” posts, and think this sounds like a great direction!

Looking forward to whatever you’ve got for us :)

  8. I just found your blog but now that I know you aren’t going to document your daily eats, I’m definitely going to be a follower! Pictures of oatmeal and green smoothies on every food blog gets old. :) I take the same approach on my blog – it’s my personal blog, but it tends to focus on food and fitness. I’m excited to see what you’ll do with your new blog route! :)
