December 4th, 2009: Walk the dog

Hi gang!  First things first, I did indeed have some wine and snacks Thursday evening:

Red wineChocolate zucchini bread Red wine and two slices of chocolate zucchini bread!  I didn’t eat all of the bread though but I tried. ;)  I stayed up way too late on Thursday night reading and finally crashed around midnight.  Way past my bedtime!

Now let’s talk about dog walking!

OHC’s How to Walk Your Dog During Midwest Winter:

Coffee and yogurtFirst start with a great breakfast.  I had a huge bowl of yogurt mess.  A very large red delicious, Stoneyfield Banilla yogurt, lots of homemade granola.  Coffee for fortification.

Now leash up your dog and head out the door!

MePut on a ridiculous looking hat.  Or if you’re civilized like myself, it’s called a toboggan.  It’s warm and it’s long enough to cover your ears so those that make fun of you can stick it.  It’s dang cold out!  Make sure you’re wearing a winter jacket which typically consists of at least two layers.

Me with fleecy pantsAlso put one some Men’s fleecy pants.  The same pants in the women’s section cost $450.00 while the pair in the men’s section cost $0.75.  The choice is clear.

dog wasteProperly dispose of waste that your dog was kind of enough to deposit before starting the long walk.

glovesWear your awesomely rad 1983 gloves.  Gloves are a must or your fingers will fall off and Urgent Care isn’t equipped enough to put them back on.  Trust me.

trail Hit the trail!

intersection Come to a busy intersection because people think that since it’s a “back road” you can speed down it.  Get a good grip on the leash and take off running when the coast is clear.

Trail Continue on your way.

This trail is 6 miles long in one direction which can be convenient if you need a place to hit up a long run.  But is also extremely boring…

huge tracts of landIt’s mostly just this the entire way.  Huge Tracts of Land.  Fun to say, boring as hell to run on.  Trust me.

Intersection Come to another busy intersection.  Rinse, repeat.

RockyCheck on your dog occasionally.

RockyMake sure he’s walking and having a good time.

Park entrance Come across a park and decide to take a detour for two reasons.

One, you have a fondness for trains.

Covered bridgeTwo, you have an irrational attraction to covered bridges.  Even if it is a brand new one.

Park trail Enjoy the sun, scenery, and blue skies.

One finger salute But curse the wind.

Park sign Decide to that it’s time to head home.

OHC-12-04-09_me_shakeTalk to your dog and wonder why you didn’t bring your phone with you to call for pickup.

RockyHe doesn’t know either.

Start to head back home in the cold and wind.  entrance Rejoice when you hit the entrance to your neighborhood.  Start to the walk back home.

hoseOn the way home, come across someone’s discarded hose.  Realize that the last time you lost track of some hose was probably during college and it was most likely due to the fact that they were annoying you.  Not because of some fun shenanigans.

Ponder just what kind of neighborhood you live in.

Hit home and celebrate by having some lunch.

Ezek breadI had a new combo today, Ezek Bread with some PB and roasted pumpkin seeds on top.  I have been craving some Ezek bread like crazy.

LunchSmoothie:

  • 1C Carrot juice
  • 1C Unsweetened cranberry juice
  • 1C OJ
  • Kale
  • Banana
  • Frozen pineapple
  • Frozen mango

Carrots and cucumber on the side.  I wasn’t very hungry and this lunch was even late, like around 2pm.  My breakfast seriously was large, and it filled me up really well.

I was in such a baking mood so after a while I decided to make some cookies.  I looked through some of my vegan cookbooks and came across a recipe I could use for inspiration.

ChipsScott and I split some Kettle Brand chips while I baked.  I wanted something a little salty, and a few chips hit the spot.  I can’t eat too many regular chips because since they are fried, they sit heavy in my stomach.  The same goes for any fried food for me, I can only do a bit otherwise I feel like I’m walking around with a brick in my stomach.

cookiesI basically made up my own recipe because my inspiration recipe, while nice for a guideline, wasn’t really to my taste.  My first batch of almost vegan chocolate chip cookies!  Almost vegan because the chocolate chips I used were not vegan, just regular dark chocolate.

soupDinner time!  It was a Freezer Saver night.  I pulled out some veggie soup I had previously made and heated it up.  YUM!  I had a huge bowl of it too and some more ezek bread on the side.

Christmas decorationsI had Scott pull out the Christmas decorations while I baked and heated up dinner.  Yes those are tubs filled with decorations.

We watched hockey and snacked:

White wine cookiesA glass of white and chocolate chip cookies!  I had three. :D  I purposely make my cookies small so I can eat more of them and feel indulgent. :p  They were awesome!  A total success!

Then I crashed out in bed. :)  A post that starts and ends with wine and chocolate, gotta love that!

  1. Hahaha! Funny post! :P I can totally relate!!!

I took Daisy for a walk wearing my ski jacket and ski gloves this week. I was threatening to wear ski pants too but I thought the funny sound they’d make when they rubbed together would give me away!

    • Thanks Jenny!
Allijag, I know you know how it is! :D
Lynn, Oh brrr! It will probably be even colder over there, totally don’t envy that! :p
TGirl, I was just talking about getting a ski mask for my runs and walks. The wind is killer!
      LG, you are welcome!
      Taylor, thanks! :)
Heather, you totally should! Even if it’s just a wee tree and Sammy’s stocking. :D

    • DianaHayes, we went both ways, toboggan meant hat but it could also mean a sled. However it was a very specific kind of sled, a toboggan sled were those wooden ones with the metal frames and metal runners on them. Sort of like an old timey sled. Not plastic or anything like that those were just plain old sleds. :p

  2. Can I count this post as exercise? I went along with you on the walk? it is cold here in Nashville but NOT AS cold as it is for you. Anna does not like the cold. We are more of nappin folks!!
