December 3rd, 2009: Bean Envy

Hi pretties!  I ended up not having any tea last night.  I came home and went straight to bed to read for a bit before crashing out.  Since it was still pouring rain when we got home there was no quickie walk with Rocks, therefore there was nothing standing in the way of me and my most awesome bed.  Hooray!

I read for a good bit because my book is totally addicting.  It’s called, Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen and I have a love-hate relationship with it right now.  I love it because I think it’s well written and makes me want to keep reading it.  Creating that desire to stay up past my bedtime and allowing the book to totally consume me.  I love when that happens with books!  I hate the book because it discusses circus life in the 1930s and animals were not treated with kindness or love in any way at all.  Animal cruelty is a huge issue with me, I can’t stand it.  It literally makes me sick to my stomach.  Even reading about things disturbs me on a level that I don’t care for.  While I realize the book itself is fiction, it is based on how the circus really was during that time.  There are times when some of the passages are a bit hard to read.  Have you read the book?

I decided to hit the hay around 10:30 because I knew that I had a big day ahead of me.  Thursdays are jam packed with workouts, housework, and blogwork.

First up, workout Part I!  I got in 5 miles this morning and I’m content with that.  Not totally happy, but content. :p  I wanted to do 6 but when I started it was sprinkling just a bit.  I decided that I would just run as much as I could before it started to full-on rain.  I was just wrapping up mile 5 when it started sprinkling a bit heavier.  I didn’t want to get caught in winter rain halfway through mile 6, so I packed it up and went home.  Five miles is still a good run!

Chocolate soymilk

Stretch, shower, and then a glorious bowl of blueberry oatbran.  I upped the amount of that today and filled the bowl to the tippy-top.

Coffee and oatbran

If you follow me on twitter then you know  my second cup of coffee this morning was another peppermint mocha.  Mmmm mmmm!

After breakfast, I cursed the Nike website for about 10 minutes and then I got up to clean the house.  Nike doesn’t work on my Linux machine; the website only works on my Apple.  My Apple runs like molasses and using it to shop is painful.  I was a bit frustrated at it this morning.  And also maybe because they are our of my favorite winter running pants and I wanted another pair.  Stupid Nike!

While I don’t normally clean the house on Thursday, I decided to get that out of the way so I have nothing to do tomorrow, chore-wise, and can relax and get caught up on some other things that need attention.

Once the house was clean it was time for some lunch.  Yippee!

Salad

Yup!  No feta today since I’m having cheese later with dinner.  Cranberries and raisins though!  And also a bit of shredded zucchini.

Smoothie

Smoothie:

  • 1C Carrot juice
  • 1C OJ
  • 1C Unsweetened cranberry juice
  • Last of the spinach
  • Frozen pineapple
  • Frozen peaches

Blackbean burger

Blackbean burger with salsa.

Smoothie, salad, fruit, blackbean burger

Oranges and clementines in the middle.  This is a huge lunch for me!  I made a blackbean burger for Scott and became jealous so I made myself one.  Jealousy never gets you anything but hurt feelings and bloat.  Trust me on this.  It was too much food for me, especially since I’ve started making my salads bigger.  I don’t know if that comes through in the pictures though.  I ate all of my salad, all of my smoothie, a few orange/clementine slices, and about 2/3 of the burger.  I hated that I couldn’t finish the burger and frustrated that because of the burger I was unable to have more fruit.   Lesson learned, don’t be jealous of Scott’s blackbeans.

I prepped things for dinner before cleaning up.  Once everything was sparkley in the kitch, I ran Rocks out for his afternoon walk.  It was cold, damp, and windy out.  Ick!

When we got back home, I could finally kick back for a minute before heading out to conditioning class.  That was workout Part II.

Then it was time for….you know it!

Pizza

Pizza Thursday!!  What what!  Pretty typical OHC pizza:

  • Spelt crust (awesome)
  • Pizza sauce
  • Shredded moz and parm cheese
  • Shredded carrots and zucchini
  • Chopped artichoke
  • Red onion
  • Buffalo chicken sausage (just a bit on my side)
  • Mushrooms on Scott’s half
  • Buffalo sauce on Scott’s half
  • Chili garlic sauce on my side

Pizza

YUM YUM!

Pizza

Pizza and hockey go very well together. :D The crust was a bit thinner today so I had three slices then went back in for 1/2 of another piece.  Stuffin’ mah face!

Now I’m off to have a much needed glass of wine and for shiz will be having some chocolate zucchini bread tonight!  Tomorrow lovelies!

  1. Delicious, healthy meals – as always! We’ve already finished our bottle – a lovely little grenache – and now I’m a bit tipsy. 8-) I think I’ll sleep very well tonight! Enjoy your vino and choczuke bread!

  2. Your salads are always so breathtaking. Almost too pretty to eat…almost. ;)

I don’t blame you for stopping after 5 miles. Running in the rain is no fun. Hey, 5 miles is awesome by the way.

And of course, Pizza Thursday another success! Always wonderful looking. :)

    Enjoy your Friday love.

I have read that book. Usually I like to reread books, but that one was an only once book, it is too emotionally hard to read.

I always love your pizza Thursdays! I like my crusts as thin as possible.

    • Taylor, Give them a try! They are very good!
Samantha, Yes, I don’t think I will be able to read it again. The animal stuff is just too much.
      Lauren, Thanks girlie!
      DianaHayes, Thank you! :D
RunToTheFinish, Agreed! I love hearing from everyone who read the book! :D
      TN, Ooo grenache! Yum!
