December 1st, 2009: Make it your own damn self

Hello my pretties!  It’s December!  Wooo! That means we can officially start celebrating the holidays without all the grinches getting their knickers in a twist.  Fra ra ra ra ra ra!

You either get that or you don’t and for those that do, you are my new best friends.

Tea

Last night I sipped on some loverly tea while watching the Pens spank the Rangers but good.  This was Saturday’s game, and they just played each other again Monday which at the time I’m writing this, I still need to watch.

I got up at 7am and quickly took care of Rockmonster.  I changed and busted out the door for a four mile run.  I wanted to do five but the wind was very chilly and very, uh, windy this morning so I could only handle four.  I hope this isn’t how the entire winter is going to be because I want to increase my mileage not have it go down!

After a glorious stretch and shower session, I put on my robe because it is that kind of cold and made some oatbran placed in this bowl.

Festive!

Coffee and oatbran

Back to basics style!  Just straight up oatbran with a banana for sweetness and some cinnamon to be racey.  Nothing else and it was fantastic.  I forgot how good oatbran just on its own can taste.

Can we talk about this cup of coffee right here for a sec?

Coffee

This was perfection in an Anthropologie initial mug.  This was my second cup of coffee and I decided to experiment with it.  One of my favorite things during the holidays was the peppermint mocha creamer that came out.  Oh how I loved it with its pepperminty taste and candy cane label.  Hands down my favorite creamer flavor ever.

The sad part is that I don’t use that kind of creamer any more because it’s loaded down with teh nasties.  EW!  What to do, what to do?  Like my HomeG, Mama Pea, I decided to take seasonal coffee enhancers into my own hands.

Introducing the Peppermint Mocha Latte that you can do at home!  Here’s what I did:

Filled my mug about 1/3 of the way with 2% organic milk (feel free to use liquid of your choice here, soy, almond, whatever makes you feel fine)

To that I added in:

  • 1/4tsp of peppermint extract
  • 1 tsp of unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1.5 tsp of organic cane sugar

Mix and toss in the microwave for 15-20 seconds.  Pour in your coffee and enjoy!

This will be making lots of appearances here at the HQ, just you watch and see!

No need to slum it and hit the nasties when you can have tasty coffees at home!  If you make this, tell me about it! :D

After my second cup of coffee, Rocks and I hit the trail for an hour walk.  Awesome!  I would be lying if I said that I wasn’t thinking about lunch the entire time.  When we got back home, I hit the kitchen and Rocks conked out on the couch.

Rocky

Here’s the scoop:

Salad

You know it.  With cranberries today.

Smoothie

Smoothielicious:

  • 1C Carrot juice
  • 1C Unsweetened cranberry juice
  • 1C Water
  • Spinach
  • Frozen pineapple
  • Frozen mango

Ezek bread

A slice of cinnamon raisin Ezek bread with a smidge of butter.

Smoothie, salad, fruit, crackers

Oranges in the middle and a bit of hummus and crackers.  I only had a few crackers but most of the oranges.  Lunch was mighty fine and totally filling.  YUM!

I did some bloggy stuff and some officey stuff before kicking it at Muay Thai.  For some reason I was hungry before class today and since I don’t like to workout on an empty stomach I had a wee snack.

Yogurt with granola

Small bit of yogurt, 2% Fage + granola + cranberry sauce.  YUM!

Sadly, I twisted my ankle a bit at class.  I kicked Scott and he caught my kick (caught my leg), while I tried to keep my balance, my right ankle sort of buckled/twisted a bit.  It’s okay now but a tad sore and stiff.  I’m going to take some ibuprofen and pray to the athletic gods that this is temporary.

When we came home it was time for some Fish Tuesday up in here!!

Salmon

I asked Scott what he wanted and he said salmon, so salmon it was!

  • Teriyaki sauce
  • Maple syrup
  • Spicy Hot grainy mustard
  • Garlic powder
  • Cayenne powder
  • Chopped green onions

Marinaded for just a bit.

Roasted cauliflower and asparagus

Veggies on the side!  Roasted cauliflower and asparagus:

  • Soy sauce
  • Olive oil
  • Garlic powder
  • S&P

Everything roasted at 400, salmon for about 7 minutes, cauliflower for about 10, and asparagus for about 5ish.

Salmon, veggies, and rice

With some brown jasmine rice because both of us wanted some carby goodness.  We started the Monday’s Pens game while we stuffed our faces.  We’re only one period in and so far the game is uneventful.  Wonder if that will change any?

I’m still a tad hungry even after that large plate of food so this grandma is going to hit the prune bag and then call it a night.  By prune bag you all realize I mean actual legit prunes and not something belonging to my husband, right?  Okay good!

Till tomorrow my lovelies!
