November 30th, 2009: Not Stirred

Hi gang!  Last night Scott and I watched a horrific movie called Casino Royale.  Perhaps you’ve heard of it?  Yeah, we’re not huge movie watchers so it takes us a while to get to a movie.  And last night I wasted 8 hours (it was a long movie, yo) of my life watching this drivel.  I do not find Daniel Craig attractive at all, the storyline was awful, the dialog stunted, and the fight scenes silly.  And don’t even get me started on the lame opening credits scene.  There was a highlight to all of that though!

Pie and tea

This glorious piece of pie.  I inhaled this along with some tea.  I focused more on the pie than I did on the movie and yet I seemed to have missed nothing at all.  Go figure.  Next time I’ll stick with the cheesy Sean Connery Bond movies, at least those are ridiculous in an outdated way.  Because the movie ran late, I didn’t get to bed until 11:30ish or so but no worries because I got to sleep in till almost 8:30.

This is pretty much unheard of because Rocky does not let mom sleep in.  Oh sure Pops can sleep in till 10:30 but mom apparently needs to be up and at ’em!

I took care of him and made myself a bowl of pumpkin oats.

Coffee and pumpkin oats

I made a bit more this morning and took my time eating it as best I could.  I did a new twist on the coffee and added a bit of vanilla extract to the milk, it gave a nice little rich aftertaste to an otherwise basic Monday cup of Joe.

The rest of the morning was spent working on “the dream”.  Emails and lots of organizing on my part.  Plus laundry because we need to keep it real and remember where we are from.

The ‘Burbs, where laundry always needs washed and coordinating faux workout outfits are always in style.

After breakfast and before my second cup of coffee, I ran Rocky out for his walk.  Mother Nature has decided that since Thanksgiving is over, that means we are in full on winter mode because Thanksgiving day was amazing.  The day after was crappy and we’ve had cold weather ever since.  It snowed Friday and today we had the classic “wintery mix” happening this afternoon for a bit.

For those that don’t know, Wintery Mix is basically Mother Nature having the runs all over you.  It’s not rain and it’s not snow, but slush falling from the sky and splattering all over the place.  But since this is a food blog, I’ll stop with the unpleasantness talk.

Let’s move on to lunch!

Salad

Which included plenty of roughage of my new favorite combo. This will keep appearing until the Feta runs out or I get tired of eating it, whichever comes first.  You have been warned:

  • Mixed greens
  • Carrots and cucumbers
  • Walnuts
  • Feta

Balsamic, honey, and olive oil

Blackbean burger and guacamole

And there were patties!  Of the black bean variety with a side of really yucky looking guac.  The avocados from Whole Foods started turning on me and this is the result.  While it tasted fine, greyish guac isn’t all that attractive.

Smoothie

And smoothies:

  • 1C Vanilla soymilk
  • 1C Unsweetened cranberry juice
  • 1C Water
  • Spinach
  • Frozen blueberries
  • Frozen mango
  • Frozen peaches

Smoothie, salad, blackbean burger

Extra chips in the middle for Guac the Grey.  The guac on the patty wasn’t working for me, so I pulled out a bit of salsa to have with it instead.

After lunch and a large kitchen clean up made easier by my comfy lime green sweat pants, I proceeded back to the office to get working on some items.  Then I had a long text messaging exchange with Scott where I was sending him pictures of my face lotion because it was apparently on sale for $5 off at the grocery store he was at.  Thank goodness for MMS on cell phones!  Because just writing out a detailed description does not cut it for my man, images are a must.

I am here to tell you that he fully succeeded and now I have face lotion aplenty.  And toner.  Hooray!  He also came home with some baked BBQ chips, frozen fruit, and some chocolate soymilk.  I can only imagine what the cashier must have been thinking.

Dinner was an easy affair tonight, leftovers.

Dinner and rolls

Ahhh soup!  And perfect for this crazy cold weather.  I added more beans and a bit more kale this time for some extra volume.  And had the soup with homemade whole wheat dinner rolls.  YUM!

Sadly we are missing out on SF tonight because both of us have some work to catch up on.  Vacations are great, it’s the catch-up that stinks!  Till tomorrow pretties!

  1. Ugh, I didn’t dig that movie so much either. It was not only dull but drug on FOREVER! I think I perfer Pierce Brosdon as Bond much more, don’t you?

Boo for winter weather! I love this time of year, but despise the mess that comes along with it. Can I ask you how the cold affects your runs? I will NOT run in the cold because I couldn’t hate anything more. I stick to the treadmill but I oddly enjoy it. I know, I guess it’s all relative.

    Enjoy your night hun!

    • Jenn, the Parkour scene in the beginning was fantastic! And a little cringe inducing when they were leaping tall buildings. Yikes!

Mama Pea, I’m an action movie girl and there was just not enough action in this movie. I’ll take a Borne movie over this any day. Mmmmm!

Lauren, In all honesty the cold doesn’t really change my running schedule because I prefer to run in the cold. :p So I just layer up and hit the pavement business as usual style. However if it’s windy, that stinks and I probably won’t run quite as far that day.
