October 15th-16th, 2009: New Outlook

Hi guys!  Sorry about not chatting with all of you pretties yesterday but I honestly had such a craptastic day, you wouldn’t have wanted to talk with me anyway, I promise.  I’ll do a short recap for you!

Thursday:

My day started at 5am, to quote Birbigs, 5am is the time before the Earth exists.  Before you start snorting at me going, “Pfftt, I’m up at that time everyday anyway”, I will come back with, are you working?  Because at 5am I was working.  Not drinking coffee, tea, not running, not checking email or eating breakfast.  Working.

Working at 5am blows unless you are doing something you love.  I was not.   What I was, was cranky.  I didn’t get anything accomplished yesterday that I was hoping to.  No 5 mile run because it was pouring rain and I needed to get more work done.  No MT conditioning class because again I was working.  Some things were accomplished though like making my appointment to finally get my lovely legs waxed.  I get a half leg wax twice a year and it’s fantastic.  Once my legs are waxed, it lasts for a good while.  As my hair starts to grow back, it’s very minimal, I can get by with shaving once a week.  When you have really fair skin but super dark leg hair, only having to shave once a week is glorious.  When I notice that I have to shave more frequently is usually about the time I’m due for another waxing.  I’ve been getting my legs waxed like this for about two years now and I’ve already got spots where the hair has stopped growing back.  HOORAY!  Perhaps this freaks you out but I’m over the moon about it.

I had breakfast before getting purty though.

mug, yogurt and fruit with granola

Coffee and a basic yogurt mess with Fage and a little bit of maple syrup with fruit and nut granola.

I also made a Whole Foods run after my legs got waxed where I proceeded to buy little but spend a ton.  I also bought lunch.

Smoothie, salad, soup

Salad bar because the HQ was out of salad base stuffs.

  • Mixed greens
  • Peas and corn
  • Sunflower seeds
  • Peanuts
  • Chickpeas
  • Green beans
  • Broccoli
  • Red cabbage

Topped with balsamic and olive oil.

Spicy black bean and mango soup.  Holy crap this stuff was awesome!  It was a bit on the tangy side, so I think that could have been decreased a bit, but wow, delish!

Scott is still fighting a bit of whatever, nothing major but you know how stuff can linger sometimes.  He is also going to be out tomorrow evening and possibly engaging with others who are also battling whatnots, so our smoothie yesterday was by Bolthouse farms and it was their Immune-Booster variety.  Lots of fruit with some other supplements as well.  It was pretty tasty.

After lunch I worked and worked and worked.  However we still celebrated Pizza Thursday!  :woohoo:

pizza

His and Her’s style!

Her’s (on the left)

  • Spinach and sundried tomato pesto base
  • Sprinkle of moz and some shredded parm
  • Shredded carrot
  • Chopped artichoke
  • Red onion
  • Drizzle of chili garlic hot sauce

His:

  • Pizza sauce base
  • Loads of moz and parm
  • Same veggies as mine
  • Crispy procusitto
  • Buffalo sauce

pizza

I made a new crust!  Usually I do 1/2 unbleached AP flour and 1/2 WW flour (or WW pastry flour).  Last night I did 1/2 AP and 1/2 Spelt.  The spelt was amazing!  Gave the crust a more hearty texture with a nutty taste.  It was so flavorful, neither of us could get past how fantastic it was.  We both loved it and I think it might be the new version from now on.  YaY spelt!

pizza

I had 2.5 pieces that were divine.  Mmm mmm!

Then I had a wee snack.

red wine and chocolate

Glass of red with four squares of dark chocolate.  I munched on these while watching Dancing with the Stars.  I haven’t watched the elimination epi yet so don’t tell me!  But I have to say, Melissa’s Charleston was horrible.  I have no idea how they got 10s for it.  Yuck.  Kelly Osborne’s Charleston was also icky.  But Donny Osmond’s Charleston was the bomb and they should have received higher marks than what they got.  None of the Lambadas did it for me.  They weren’t hawt, they were convulsions.

Wow, harsh much?  Dang!  I was in bed by 10:30.  I wish I could tell you that I crashed out but I did not.  I had a icky sleep.  I slept but it was totally stressed out.  I was tense and could feel my mind racing.  Ever have one of those sleeps?

Friday:

I tried sleeping in today, I briefly thought about getting up at 5am again but honestly, my body was not having that.  I got up after 7am but since I didn’t have a fabbo sleep, this isn’t really saying much.  The first thing I did was go on a 5 mile run.  FANTASTIC!  Thank jeebus for running because it helped clear my head, put things into perspective, and give me some face time with Mo’ Nature.  It was chilly but lovely and while not the best run, I didn’t care because I was finally getting out and about.  WOOT!

No CS for me today, instead I had some Emergen-C to help my body stay on track and not get too lost in the sea of stress and lack of sleep.  I decided on my run that today is FRIDAY and it is bound to be better than yesterday because I refuse to let it be like yesterday.  And sometimes that’s what we have to do, put our foot down and stomp on the grumpies.

coffee and oats

I made a yummer bowl of oats this morning with a cubed up honeycrisp thrown in at the end.  I also tried a new whey protein powder today.

Jay Robb Protein Powder

Jay Robb in Vanilla.  I have no idea who Jay Robb even is, but his protein powder has better nutrionals and ingredient list than the current 365 Brand I was using.

After breakfast I ran Rocky out for his walk in this chilly weather.  Brrrr!

After the walk, I did a few things around then house, then I made some lunchie which was low key and major easy.

Smoothie

Smoothie:

  • 1.5C OJ
  • .5C POM Nectarine (fave!)
  • 1C water
  • Kale
  • Frozen bananas
  • Frozen mango

Green and glorious!

veggies and bread

Snack plate:

  • Carrots
  • Cucumber
  • Ezek bread with some leftover pesto on top.

Smoothie, veggies, and soup

Small bit of soup leftover from yesterday’s lunch.

Mmmmm!  I cleaned up the kitchen and cleaned up a bit around the house.  Then I went back to work for the day.  OY!  It wasn’t so bad actually and I didn’t work late.  I wasn’t allowing myself to do that because it’s Friday and time to be happy happy!

Both Scott and I were munchie but not too hungry for dinner yet.  So we munched!

chips and salsa, and raisins

Chips and salsa, and some raisins for me.

baked chips

I ended up realizing that I didn’t want chips + salsa, so I had some baked chips instead.  Mmm!

Dinner was spur of the moment.  I had one thing in mind but totally decided on something else which just happens to be one of my faves.

Pumpkin penne pasta

Pumpkin pasta!  You know it!  This time instead of whole wheat penne, I used some spinach penne from WF, also made with wheat as well.

  • Onions
  • Carrots
  • Sundried tomatos
  • Artichokes
  • Spinach
  • Sundried tomato chicken sausage

All in a creamy pumpkin sauce and sprinkled with a little bit of good cheddar.  So delicious I can’t stand it!  My snack sort of ruined my supper appetite so I didn’t even kick the bowl, but close!

Now I’m off to snugs with my boys and watch Wednesday’s hockey game.  Later my lovlies!  Hope you had a great Friday!

  1. My sister said her son always woke up at zero dark thirty. Sleeping in for her though was a half hour longer than that. I have to wake my family who fight it all the way and would sleep past noon. I need a cook that puts all those foods together for meals. Everything looks so delicious.
