August 7th, 2009: Remember

Hi guys!!  Happy Friday!  I hope you all had a fabbo week and are excited about the weekend!  I’m getting back into the swing of things on this end.  I got up at 7:30 this morning scoring me 8 1/2 hours of sleep.  YES!  I took care of Rocks and busted out for my run.  According to my training plan, today is supposed to be a rest day.  However, I didn’t run Wednesday or Thursday so for mental health’s sake I needed to run today.

Do any of you have that?  Where you just need to run for peace of mind?  Once back home I took Rocky for a walk and then changed back into my jammies.  Oh it’s totally that kind of day.  I woke up my loves and then made some breakfast.

Coffee and yogurt

Some oatmeal raisin cookies came into our presence so I decided to have half of one crumbled in some yogurt this morning!  I wouldn’t be able to do more than 1/2 a cookie as they are super duper sweet. :O  I also had some frozen raspberries, cranberries, and some Kashi H2H Oat Flakes w/ blueberries mixed in with the yogurt.  Not my favorite way to eat yogurt but it’s all I have at the moment.

I did some officey stuff and then cleaned the house.  And then pulled together a hodgepodge lunch!

Salad

Baby salad:

  • Mixed greens
  • Carrot and parsnip
  • Cucumber
  • Grape tomatoes
  • Red onion
  • Banana peppers
  • Sunflower seeds

Easy-peasy, topped with red wine vinegar, olive oil.  A little ground black pepper and some salt free Italian seasoning as well.

Vegan nuggets

Vegan nuggets from WF!  Dipped in some buffalo sauce.

Watermelon

Watermelon.

Salad, watermelon, vegan nuggets

Scott and I shared the nuggets, that entire plate was not for me alone. :p  He also had an Annie’s burrito that I snuck a few bites of.  YUM!

“If somebody doesn’t believe in me, I can’t believe in them.” ~Andie, Pretty in Pink

I just found out that John Hughes has passed away!  I’m so bummed out about this.  I’m a child of the 80s and that means I actually grew up in the 80s, not born in the 80s.  His movies had a huge impact on my life.  At the time we had cable and had the good stations like HBO and Cinemax (before it became Skinemax) and that meant I had access to great movies.  John Hughes’ movies weren’t just for high school kids or college kids.  Whether that was his intention or not, they spoke to early teens as well.  They were something everyone talked about and could reference constantly.

I loved all his movies but one of my very favorites was Pretty in Pink.  Pretty in Pink is about a girl who doesn’t come from money, starts dating and falls in love with a guy from money.  The movie focuses on the battles they fight just because they each come from a different side of town.  Her not wanting him to pick her up at home because she’s embarrassed about her neighborhood.  Him trying to take her to a party and realizing no one wants to talk to her.  I didn’t grow up and come from money.  I totally know what it’s like to be her.

The bonus?  Her name in the movie was Andie, which is my nickname (sometimes you’ll see people call me Andie) too!  The one huge difference of course is that I hate pink with a passion.  But I chose to ignore that. ;)

Here’s one of my favorite scenes from Pretty in Pink.  Duckie coming in and professing his love for Andie to some Ottis Redding.  For the record, she totally should have been with Duckie. Everyone knows that! (P.S. This is a video. For some reason it’s not showing up in Google Reader. So if you’re interested in the video, you have to click through to my site.  Thanks!)

Regardless of when you grew up, John Hughes movies appeal to everyone.  We’ve all been there and through that stuff.  They are movies you can relate to and that makes them special.  There just are not movies like this around any more.  There are a ton of movies that he has been a part of and it’s pretty much guaranteed that you’ve seen one.

RIP John Hughes.
