March 17th, 2009: Breakfast and Lunch (Irish love all around)

Hello OHCers!  Today is such a gorgeous day I can’t stand it.  Man but I hope this lasts because I’m over the cold.

I went to bed a lot later than I had anticipated last night.  Scott and I watched a Pens game and it went to shootout.  Boo.  All evening long I was debating on a snack.  I very much needed some PB in my life but really my brain could not justify a snack.  I wasn’t hungry so there was no need for a snack.

But you know how you keep thinking about something and you can’t stop?  Well because I had been thinking about food for hours my stomach started feeling empty.  Right, I totally didn’t bring that on myself or anything. :cheesy:  I started going over my day and reviewing what I ate.  I realized that I only had one fruit today and that was 1/2 an orange.  I could use another fruit serving. Once I figured this out, my snack fell into place.

A red delicious with PB!  Also on the plate is some kashi honey sesame crackers, and a bit of pretzel roll for Scott.  I ate most of the apple and 3 crackers.  I sipped on some seltzer and finished the game out.  Perfect snack and I didn’t feel like I mindlessly ate something.  Score!  This is where keeping track of what I eat comes in so handy! The PB is melted (I always do that if I’m using it for dipping, I heat it up in the microwave) which is why it looks like a ton in that little bowl.

Then me and my bed had a serious crash session all night long.

I got up promptly at 7:30am partly because of my alarm and partly because Rocky was acting like a wanker whining to get up.  I took care of him and loved how nice it was outside.  Yes it was cool but not cold.  I still had to wear long pants and my toboggan for my run but I’m okay with that.

4.5 miles today with some sprints thrown in.  My run was glorious!  Yesterday was my off day and normally I’m okay with that but yesterday I felt all blah and gross.  I totally spaced and forgot to do my shred.  Rocky got two decent walks yesterday but it wasn’t enough to make me feel any better.  Today I was just so happy to be exercising and running.  I love running in the morning when the day is just getting started and the sun just starts to rise and bathe everything with light.  Very peaceful.  I was supposed to do my mileage at pace with the sprints thrown in.  However, I was feeling awesome and pushed myself just a bit and picked up my pace for the entire run.  And I added sprints on top of that.  I only ended up doing 3 sprints because I caught a cramp and had to slow down for a bit while it eased up.  Since my pace was a bit faster overall, I’m cool with only 3 sprints.

Drank some CS, stretched, and hit the shower which was lovely and super hot this morning.  Mmmm  Then I met my love affair for some breakfast.

I was referring to oatbran!  Which totally knocked my socks off today it was so damn good.  And whatever I did resulted in a crap ton of oatbran this morning.

  • 1/3C oatbran
  • 1 huge banana, mashed
  • 1 1/3C vanilla soymilk
  • Pinch cinnamon and salt
  • Small scoop of vanilla whey powder
  • 1 TBSP of ground flax

P.S. I add in the flax and whey powder once the oatbran is done cooking.  I remove it from the heat and stir those two things in, then I serve it up. :D

My mix-ins this morning were cranberries, crushed walnuts, and vanilla almond butter. A ginormous scoop of it. I have no idea how to exist once this stuff is gone.

With coffee that also rocked this morning.  I had the best morning!  And hello, I totally inhaled that entire bowl of oatbran.  Totally for sure. Completely.

After breakfast, I leashed up Rocks and we were out the door for his walk in this amazing weather.  I probably could have just worn a tee-shirt (yes and pants, jeeze) it was so nice outside.  I would have done a longer walk but Rocks was already hot from laying in the sun so he was ready to come home.

Did this, that, and the other until it was time for some lunch.  I picked up some yummy tomatoes the other day and decided to make a sandwich!

Arnold sam-thins, romaine, 2 slices of tomato, banana peppers and some vegenaise on top.

A few carrot sticks, and a pickle on the side because today felt like a pickle day.  And a red pear in the middle.  I took a few bites of my sandwich and realized that I indeed do not like vegenaise.  It has a weird potent manufactured aftertaste to it which didn’t sit well with me.  And by didn’t sit well, I mean I was unable to eat it.  Booo!  I so wanted those tomatoes!

Clearly, a pear, four carrot sticks, and a sliced pickle do not make a proper lunch.  I wanted something quick and tossed a Kashi waffle in the toaster oven.  While that was toasting I ate the above three things.  And got full.  Wait, what?  Like actual “full” and not the, “I’m not hungry anymore” kind of feeling.  I cleaned up lunch and did the dishes all the while waiting for my brain to realize that I needed something else to eat.  Except that didn’t happen and now I’m in here blogging.  Oh well, I’m sure that I will get hungry again in no time, at which point I’ll have my waffle.  Weird.

Happy St. Patty's Day!

  1. Girl, I have so been there on the snack issue. Sometimes I wake up in the middle of the night and I’m like…forget it. Then I tear the kitch up!
