February 4th, 2009: Breakfast and Lunch

Hello bloggies!  I lied, I ended up having a glass of white last night!  When I was in the kitchen putting together my little snack, Scott informed me we also had a bottle of white still open and that was from last Thursday!  Dang!  So I went with that since it has been open longer.

My very large glass of wine (eep!) and some fishies(which are whole grain).  I did not eat that entire bowl, just the top part. :D  We started the Pens game from Saturday.  Lordy is all I have to say about that.

Around 9pm or so I headed upstairs to read and by 10pm was passing out.  I hit the hay only to get a sort of crap sleep.  I woke up around 2:30 and it took me over an hour to fall back to sleep.  Boo.  I still got my butt up at 6am this morning.  I woke up to frigid temps and more snow. :/  It wasn’t a bunch of snow, just a dusting, not even 1/2 an inch but just the fact that we had more snow is so very meh.

However I did not have to eat lame oats this morning!  Because we had picked up some bananas last night.  I will say that the banana was still a bit underripe so it didn’t make the oats as creamy or sweet as usual.

I beefed up the oats with a 1/2 TBSP of ground flax (I love the way flax makes the oats look!) and 1/2 a scoop of vanilla protein powder.  Mix-ins were cranberries and dark chocolate PB.  Oats eaten along side some morning coffee + creamer.  The coffee was super strong this morning.  Ooo I could only have about 1/2 of the mug.

I did some bloggity stuff and posted the first OHC contest!  Feel free to join if you haven’t already, it’s for some free food!

Then it was time for my run.  I had a bad run today guys.  I totally let the weather defeat me.  It was cold for my run this morning, 11degrees with a windchill of 9degrees.  That sucked but wasn’t as bad as the ice and snow dusting.  We still have tons of ice leftover from our last storm and the dusting of snow today did not help the situation.  Instead of providing traction, the snow was so light and fluffy that it made things more slippery.  There were times my pace was only slightly faster than a walk.  And times I actually had to stop and figure out which way was less slippery; the road or the sidewalk where people didn’t shovel.  Meh.  I let it get in my head and I ended up only doing a short 2.5 miles today.  I should have put my yaktrax on but I assumed things would be okay.  I was so wrong.  I almost turned back and headed home early but pushed though.  I might not get a run in tomorrow so I had to make sure I got one today.

When I got back home, I drank a bit of CS and then hit the shower.  That made me feel loads better.

Perspective

I have a couple of topics in mind for a focus on perspective, but today’s is on running distances.  It’s interesting how time, training, and practice change everything.  Less than a year ago I wasn’t even running except for three minutes at MT class a few times a week.  Then I started running on my own and I remember when I broke the 2 mile mark.  How happy and excited I was to be running 2.5 miles.  I felt very accomplished and proud of myself.  That was my standard everyday run for a while and I was okay with that.

Oh how things change.  Now I consider a 2.5 run a “bad” run or my “super short” run.  I have to remind myself how it was when I started and not to forget that just being able to run is a great thing.  Even a “crap” run is better than no run.  At least I am out there moving and grooving.  Running is a good thing and good for you no matter the distance or time.  I must not lose that perspective.

After my shower, I was a little snackie so I made a fruit plate of sorts.

2 prunes and 5 apricots.  I ate everything save for one apricot.  But that didn’t really satisfiy my hunger and eventually I had to go in and make lunch.

Favorite salad with a side of remaining apple slices and 1/2 a wheat english muffin toasted.  Topped with a morningstar sausage patty that had 1/2 a slice of swiss on it.  YUM!  The salad had:

  • Romaine
  • Green apple
  • Cucumber
  • Carrot
  • Blueberry granola
  • Cranberries
  • Walnuts

Topped with a maple balsamic dressing.  So good!  I did not eat the extra apple though.  After lunch and cleanup, I braved the cold and took Rocky for a walk.  Even though today is super sunny, it is super cold outside.  It was 14F when we headed out for a walk.  I had to keep it really short because it was just too cold with the wind blowing.  He came back to get all snug in the sun streaming in through the office window.

I’m thinking today is a good day for tea!  I saw that some of you have tried the new ‘Bucks tea lattes, are they caffeine free?

Got some worky and bloggy stuff to get done.  Catch ya laters!

  1. Great perspective on running! I really appreciate that, because too often do we get down on ourselves when we don’t meet, much less surpass previous goals. We should all take a minute (or entire day) to just be content and PROUD of our hard working selves!
