February 23rd, 2009: Dinner

Hi guys!  Laundry is done (the clothes at least) but still needs folded.  And I’m still going strong.  I have some more things to work on and chores to get done which include cutting Scott’s hair and moving the office around.  I’m also trying not to be stressed because some drama has popped up and I HATE dealing with drama in my life.  It throws things out of whack and makes me want to run away somewhere and hide until it’s over.  Preferably that “somewhere” has a hot tub and allows me to have access to wine. Anyway, I’m desperately trying to not let it stress me the hell out.  In the middle of doing chores, I took a small snack break.

Two prunes and three TrueNorth crack squares.

Scott and I were talking about (albeit very vaguely but I’m pretending it was serious because that makes me happy) planning out a road trip so we can start exploring some different areas for potential living.  I love when we talk about moving because it means getting away from here and possibly finding our “forever” home and setting up shop.  I’m ready to put down roots some place and make a “home”.  The tricky part with road tripping is Rocks because he goes with us.  So that means pet friendly hotels which aren’t always high quality if you get what I’m saying.  But like I said, it was just in the “talking” stage but I still squeed a tiny bit inside.

Moving along, this drama also involves Scott, which means Scott is having a craptastic day.  I dislike when Scott has a craptastic day because he’s so easy going and just goes with the flow.  If something is bothering him then it’s a pretty big deal and really bothering him, if that makes any sense.  Usually when this happens, I hit the kitchen (along with other things, but let’s keep this PG folks!) and make him one of his favorite things.  Today I just happened to have all of the right ingredients for a spicy and cheesy chicken soup.  So that’s what we had!

Here’s a very blurry pic of me making the soup.  There are so many hilarious things about this picture but I’m pointing out one.  Don’t I look gigantor standing there, like I’m towering over Gracie (Gracie is my range)?  Gracious!  I’m only 5’6″ folks, far from towering over anything.  Okay, I’m pointing out another, this is a rare pic of me wearing a long-sleeved shirt while cooking.  A sweatshirt no less!  For the record I typically cook wearing a tee-shirt because anything else gets in my way and on my nerves.  Some of those outrageous outfits that Sandra Lee wears (yes I said it, outrageous) while she cooks usually sends me into fits of yelling at the TV.  Because who wears lace doilies on their arms when they cook?  Honestly.  So I can’t even tell you what’s going on here.  Maybe I was cold?  Maybe the sweatshirt was staying put?  Because you’ll notice I do have it pushed up my arms to help get it out of the way.  Apparently my hair was extra flippy today as well.

But you came to see dinner! ;)

I had a small scoop of the soup, maybe 1/2C, along with a small bit of coleslaw, and a salad.  Salad was of the favorite variety with a small twist:

  • Romaine
  • Spinach
  • Sunflower and pumpkin seeds
  • Cranberries
  • Blueberry granola
  • 1/2 of a banana sliced

Drizzled with fig balsamic and olive oil.  This was my first time putting sliced banana in my salad.  Scott didn’t eat the other half of my banana this morning with his yogurt and I didn’t want it to go to waste.  In the salad it went.  It was awesome!  Didn’t seem out of place at all and really sort of gave the salad a little creaminess here and there.  I was pretty pleased with dinner today.  Filling with enough variety to keep me interested.  Because I had different things each in their own bowls, it felt a little decadent being able to pick between them, eating a little of this and a little of that. :D

Now I must go and finish my chores. *groan*  And then it’s jammie time and reading in bed!

Excuse me, but I'm trying to watch mom cook dinner. Somepeople.

  1. OMG Your Sandra Lee comments are SO FUNNY! ITA! DH always jokes that she’s an alcoholic b/c every time he happens to walk in and see her on tv she’s making a mixed drink. Come to think of it she IS the only one I know of that ALWAYS has alcohol on every show- but maybe that’s to help with the doilie wearing…
