January 9th, 2009: Dinner

Hi guys!  We met our friends last night at a sushi and Korean restaurant.  Yup you read that right.  The name is The Japanese Oriental Restaurant. :p  They were cool with me taking pics, hooray!

Earlier in the afternoon I got a little hungry so I munched on this:

1 carrot and a sliced gala apple.  Mmm!  Some of the apple went to Scott.  And then it was time for me to get ready for dinner out, woo!

We arrived a little late because we couldn’t find where to park.  We are so not city suavvy people and this restuant was in the city and by the university so parking and streets were very compact.  I called our friends and asked them where they parked and they said right in front!  That didn’t occur to us because there were construction barrels everywhere.  But I guess you could go in between them and park along the front of the restaurant so that’s what we did.

I totally forgot to snap a picture of us and I am bummed because I looked su-pah cute!  With my lil sweater and collared shirt, I was stylin’ it.

The restaurant, to me didn’t have too much to offer.  Or at least that’s how it seemed because the descriptions of the food weren’t great.  I wanted a noodle veggie dish but there were no veggie options.  So my next idea was to order some sort of noodle chicken dish and ask for extra veggies.  Um, I couldn’t find a noodle chicken dish.  So I went with teriyaki chicken and veggies.  I was going to ask for extra veggies but did not and I’m glad I didn’t.  You’ll see why in a sec. ;)

For starters our friends got the fried tofu and they let us have a wee sample of it.

That’s our friend Craig showing off his mad chopstick skillz.  It was so yummy!  I can’t even explain to you how they made this dish but there were bits of veggies and onions in the tofu.  And the sauce was an amazing spicy sweet sauce.  Almost like a General Tso’s type of sauce.  I only had one wee bite.

My appetizer I ordered was tempura veggies.  I have never had tempura before other than small frozen food snacks you can find at the grocery store.  There was sweet potato, zucchini, some sort of squash (I think acorn), and onions.  I had 1 zucchini, 1 squash, and 1 sweet potato.  It was just okay, nothing to write home about.

Here’s my main course.  Are you loving the diced carrots and peas as my “vegetables”?  There’s also some corn and two green bean pieces.  I totally forgot about the mushrooms! Probably because I gave those to Scott.  Andrea don’t eat fungus, yo.  But don’t the veggies look straight out of a frozen veggie medley bag?  I’m glad I didn’t ask for extra!  And there’s also some rice, no option for steamed brown.  I ate most everything save for two of the chicken teriyaki fingers.

I had water with my meal.  And we chit-chatted for a bit but it seemed like traffic was picking up and there were people waiting so we didn’t linger long.  And that was our evening! :D

I was a little flustered since this was my first time taking pictures in front of people so I didn’t get any of the menu, the restaurant, or of us.  Boo on me!  Next time though I should be more at ease.

Sadly I didn’t like my meal or the restaurant much but that’s okay.  Never know unless you try!

I may need a snack but for now I’m off to sit on the couch and hang with my boys.  See you tomorrow!
