January 15th, 2009: Breakfast and Lunch

Hi guys!  Sorry this post is so late but I’ll explain as I go along. :D

Last night Scott and I watched the first two periods of the Pens game from Tuesday.  Fingers crossed they stay on top.  While we watched we snacked on some whole grain fishes and some tea.

I bought a mammoth box of fishies too!  Check it out, that’s my drinking class next to it for size comparison.

I know!  It was a little after 10pm and I headed upstairs to bed.  I was exhausted and passed out right away.  Since I knew it would be cold this morning I slept in a little bit, till 6:30.  Living large I know. ;)

I got Rocky outside and he ran, peed, ran back.  He is not wasting time staying outside apparently.  It was -1F at that point.  I made a hardy bowl of oats because it had to power me through shoveling the sidewalk/driveway. Standard oat mix with old fashioned oats and my mix-ins were cranberries, chocolate granola (mine), and a scoop of dark chocolate PB.  I read some blogs and cursed our host because their server was down.  Which meant I couldn’t check mail or go to my website.  That’s a frustrating thing!

I got Scott up at 8am and changed into gear to shovel the walks.  I layered up and headed out.  The snow was very light fluffy snow so it wasn’t a back breaking experience.  I can already feel the effects of yoga though!  Seriously, shoveling used to kill my back.  I would have to stop every few minutes to take a break and stretch my back.  With having done the yoga and stretching my back on an almost daily basis, I didn’t even notice any strain on my back while shoveling.  It took me an hour and 16 minutes to shovel and I burned 491 cals.  Woot!

Now to a sane person, that would have been fine.  But when you’re a runner, well sensibilities change a little bit. ;)  The sun was shining and I was itching for a run.  I didn’t run yesterday and while I burned all those cals shoveling, it wasn’t cardio so it didn’t feel the same.  I didn’t have a sense of accomplishment with it other than knocking one more chore off my list.  I hemmed and hawed over what to do and finally decided to just go run.  I strapped on my yaktrax and was out the door.

I layered up.  Tights and fleece pants, turtle neck running shirt, plus another shirt, thick socks, jacket and toboggan.  Two pairs of gloves.  I was only going to do 2.5 miles.  Short.  It was cold and we had things to do.

Well that changed.  I was running and everything was all fine.  It felt awesome to be out in the sun and cold doing what I have now come to love.  I pushed through and did 3.5 instead of 2.5.  My reasoning was because I didn’t run yesterday and tomorrow is supposed to be colder so I might not get to run then.  Better do what I can while it’s decent outside, right?

I felt so much better after my run!  That was exactly what I needed.  I need to have that cardio and sense of accomplishment otherwise I get really cranky.  After my run I jumped in the shower right away.  Sadly no time for yoga because we had to meet friends at 1pm to look at some furniture they are getting rid of.

Before heading over there, I had 3 apricots and the other half of the maple nut Clif bar.  I’m so glad I did because we didn’t leave our friends house till 3ish and both of us were hungry by that point.

We decided it was too cold to go to MT tonight (it’s in a warehouse and the heat doesn’t get turned on till class starts.  So it would be chilly today!) and thought a late lunch would be good.  We made it to Panara!  Hooray!

my lunch

However I feel my selection could have been better.  I needed to look over the menu and since it was a slow time, I had two cashiers staring me down waiting for my order.  I felt rushed.

I decided on tomato soup and grilled chicken caeser.  After I ordered it and started eating I realized I should have gone another route.  The soup was okay but loaded with cheese croutons.  It felt heavy and not in a good way.  The caeser salad was nothing but romaine and chicken with dressing.  We know that the dressing is loaded with fat and other stuff so yeah bad choice.  And I’m not saying that because I think it’s a fatty dish, but more because I was looking for a big salad with lots of veggies and I didn’t get that.  So it’s a bad choice because there was no variety in it.  Oh well.  I was hungry so I ate it all and all the soup minus the croutons.

Scott's lunch

Scott's lunch

Scott had the chicken tortilla soup (icky too much cumin) and a chipotle chicken sandwich which was really good and I had three bites of.  YUM!  Their chicken is really awesome.  Very tender and looks like real chicken, not like a fake piece of chicken you see in fast food salads or sandwiches.  I also bought 6 asiago bagels.  MMM!  Looking forward to those tomorrow.  When I placed my order I asked for 1/2 dozen and I’m hoping the cashier just didn’t hear me when she asked me to repeat how many I wanted.  Otherwise, it’s a sad day when someone doesn’t know how much a 1/2 dozen is.

Now we’re home and chilling.  I have no idea what we’re doing about dinner tonight.  I feel my lunch was pretty hefty so I’m not really interested in a big dinner.

Dinner post I’m going to talk about some giveaways people have going on, so stay tuned!
