November 1st, 2008: Lunch and Dinner

Hi guys! We ended up not going to MT class this morning. Boo on us! After we thought about it, we realized we had some errands and chores around the house that needed addressed. We opted to stay home and focus on those today and tomorrow. First up was going out and running errands! I was a tad bit hungry so I munched on this before heading out.

Spooky s'mores

Spooky s'mores

It’s a Spooky S’more’s Z bar! It was actually very yummy. I ate half of it since I knew that I didn’t need the whole thing. I only needed a small something to get me through the errands. I love Clif bars so much! I’m very jealous of Lindsay who gets to eat yummy seasonal Clif bars like pumpkin spice cake and gingerbread! I cannot find those in my area. Just a little FYI, Clif Bars. ;)

We ran to Bed, Bath, and Beyond first. I got a fat separator for making gravies and sauces. I have wanted one of those for a looonnngg time! Also remember how I just waxed on about my love for chocolate and mint?

Mmmmm

Mmmmm

That would explain why I bought this today. Hello peppermint bark! It’s been way too long and I have missed you greatly. I also bought some serving spoons, a bamboo silverware organizer, and some thin gloves (99cents!) to wear on my runs.

Next up was Michael’s for some paper that I will use to line frames so I can finally hang up wedding pictures and make some collages of other items.

Then I went to Dick’s to check out their cold weather running gear. I hate this store so much. It is so mysoginistic. They have a ton of men’s items but only few women’s items. And the women’s items they do have are all pink or pastel colors. :irked: Um, some of us like other colors too! Anyway, they didn’t have much of anything. Either it was just sweats or fleece. If the items said they wicked sweat it didn’t specify whether it was for cold weather, stopped wind, or was waterproof. I gave up. They had plenty of men’s cold gear out though.

After Dick’s we headed back home. I had wanted to stop at Target but it wasn’t a necessity so I passed. We were both pretty hungry once we got home.

Lunchie

I made Scott a grilled ham and cheese sandwich. I added some spinach and tomatoes for some extra veggie power. I was going to have one too but realized I didn’t need the ham and just did a slice of munster, spinach, and tomato on some double oat bread. We had chips, carrots, salsa, and guac on the side. YUM!

Mr. Hawk

Mr. Hawk

After lunch and cleanup we got a visitor! This is probably the best picture we have of the hawk that comes to see us sometimes. Or more likely, comes to see the little birdies around my feeder. He’s soooo pretty!

After he left we headed outside for some yard work. I started raking the backyard while Scott did weed duty. Once I did the whole yard, he picked up the leaves. I was out there for about 1.5 hours. Most of the time raking and then a couple of minutes sitting in the yard with Rocks.

I'm off to get it!

I'm off to get it!

Got it!

Got it!

Rocky got some good play time in while we were outside. He loves fetch and will play forever or until he poops out! :p

I came inside to feed Rocky and get supper started. Our original plan was to grill but it got dark too quickly, so that was kiboshed. I ended up roasting the turkey thighs I pulled out. I had them sitting in a rub all day and then right before roasting, rubbed them down again with a garlic and jalapeno pepper paste. They smelled insanely awesome as they cooked!

Dinner

Dinner

Sides were the leftover pumpkin risotto, carrots that roasted with the thighs, and some zucchini. MMMMMM! I ate all my carrots, all my zucchini, two bites of the risotto and 1/2 that slice of turkey. Everything was so yummy! The wine we are drinking is:

Are you really gonna drink that mom?

Vampire Pinot Grigio. It’s just okay which is about what I expected. Rocky’s face cracks me up every time I look at this picture. Like he’s so concerned about us drinking some cheap wine. We opened it yesterday and wanted to have a few sips before it went bad.

Now it’s time to watch the Pens game from Thursday and then hit the hay. See you tomorrow!

  1. All of the food looks delicous! I love your photo of the hawk, I’ve been chasing these around here for months and haven’t been close enough to get a shot yet.

  2. Heather says:

FYI – for clothes that wick they just wick sweat. They aren’t waterproof nor will they cut the wind.

Stuff that is waterproof or will cut the wind is stuff you see in actual jackets – that kind of stiff nylon-y material. They are often called shells.

Although some of the tops will tell you whether it’s for cold weather or not but generally people just layer and try different things out.

    This is a good site

And here’s a thread where I asked about what to wear outside LOL

Do you have a speciality running store near you? They would be more helpful than that store I would think. Also you could post on that board we know about – I’m sure people would be able to help out.

  3. Heather, I would figure that some cold weather gear would also wick away sweat since you still sweat even if it’s cold. :p My Nike stuff says it wicks sweat and protects against cold and wind (no rain). Which is what I wanted. But the Nike stuff at Dick’s didn’t have any descriptions of any kind on the product which I thought was odd. Because how can one know it’s right gear for the weather if it doesn’t say what it does?! That’s what frustrated me. They also just had a lot of fleecy things which fleece + sweat can get icky. But my Nike stuff shipped! So hopefully it will work out.

  4. Heather says:

Yup all running stuff – the stuff closest to your skin should wick sweat even when it’s cold. I’m wondering if the Nike stuff that says it wicks sweat and protects against cold and wind is because it’s a heavier weave? That would help. The only stuff that really helps against wind is the nylon shell type jackets and vests so that’s confusing. Is there a product name for the one you got? I’m curious. :P

And anything that isn’t that wicking material is BAD for running. It will just hold onto the sweat and in the winter make you even colder. It’s worth it to pay the money for wicking material clothes.

Unfortunately a lot of stuff in some stores don’t have proper descriptions on them which is stupid.
