November 11th, 2008: Morning

Hi guys! Last night as we snuggled and watched TV, Scott opened one of these.

Juice box wine

Juice box wine

These are little wine boxes we get from Target and they come in a package of four. They look like little juice boxes! And each holds about 1.5 glasses of wine which is a pretty decent amount. They expired last month and he said we needed to drink them up.

We split one of the boxes and I have to say it tasted awful. Like paint thinner or something. I don’t know what the deal is because we used to love this wine. Now I can’t even stand it. We’ll probably end up tossing what we have because it just doesn’t taste good. I say that after the open boxes of wine we have are gone, we stick with just bottles.

That didn’t really satisfy my want for a glass of wine so I had a small glass of red which went down much better. Along with it I had a bowl of frozen grapes. It’s been a struggle for me to get in fruits. I didn’t think the change of seasons would affect my fruit intake as much as it has. So I’ve been working at trying to bump the amount back up. If I know I didn’t have any fruit or not much fruit, then I try to have some as a snack. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t. I also had one peppermint bark square that didn’t get photographed because it’s close to the TV, so I just grabbed it and ate it. :p Around 10:30 I decided to call it a night and head up to bed. I was glad we stayed in last night because we both needed it (me moreso) but looking back, I should have read in bed instead of watching TV. That would have been more relaxing to me.

I was up before my alarm this morning and laid in bed for a few minutes. I was surprised Rocky wasn’t bugging but soon realized he was all buried in his blanket and when that happens he’s quite content to sleep. :p I eventually got up and stumbled my way out of the bedroom to change into my running gear.

It was cold this morning! Down in the 20s I’m pretty sure. Frost was everywhere. I wore my cold weather running jacket for the first time today. It was so frosty outside that I didn’t think the hoodie was going to be enough. I really dig this jacket. I don’t love it as much as I love the hoodie, but I like it alot. It has pockets on the inside and outside, the outside ones zipping to better secure items. The front zip is a double zip to help further protect against the cold and wind. And it’s warm! I didn’t think it was going to be warm enough because when I walked out, I was still a wee cold. But once I was moving, I ended up unzipping it a little bit because I was so warm. It would be nice if it had the built in hand-warmers like the hoodie has. It rides up just a bit during the run but not enough that you have to fuss with it and keep pulling it down. In fact I didn’t even pull it down till I was done running. I like that I can zip it up all the way and that provides some neck coverage against the cold and wind. It’s form-fitting yet baggy enough that layering under it would be no problem.

I will need some tights for under my pants. Today my thighs and butt got cold! :O Most likely because those areas are bigger and the fabric stretches a little thinner there than on my calves, which were perfectly toasty. The pants are comfortable enough and roomy enough that an extra set of tights won’t impact that functionality of them at all.

I ran my new modified 2.4 miles and was a minute faster today coming in at 28 minutes. Whooo! I didn’t burn nearly as many calories as I had been though, boo on me. Still over 300 which is good.

I was home by 7:30 and poured a huge glass of CS. Drank that down and then poured a wee bit more! I was very thirsty and it tasted so chocolaty good!

Back out the door with Rocks and he was all hip-hoppity because it was chilly out. While walking we had a run-in with another dog. So frustrating when people don’t obey leash laws and then you have to deal with their dog charging at you. We were on the sidewalk walking by a house. As we were going by, they opened their garage door and because their dog wasn’t secured he took off down the driveway at Rocky and I. I’m yelling at the owner asking if their dog is friendly and the guy isn’t paying a lick of attention to me. Meanwhile I’ve got this snarling dog bigger than Rocky staring us down. Finally the owner comes down and “apologizes” and says yes he’s friendly. “I was just about to take him for a walk.” “Then perhaps you should have attached the leash before opening your garage door.” GAH! Leash laws exist for a reason people!

However, that was our only run-in and the rest of the walk was just peachy.

I pulled out the Wii fit and did some yoga. I got accosted by it telling me it’s been four days since I’ve logged in and in order to get results you have to work out everyday! :cheesy: I did about 18 minutes of stretching. For those that have asked me about it, I’m not ignoring you! I plan on writing a review of it as soon as I unlock everything, or am close to unlocking everything. I will say that if you are looking at it to enhance your workout, it’s good. I don’t think it can be used as an only source for exercise.

I was starving this morning! As I was doing my Wii yoga my belly was rumbling. This was a perfect day for a huge bowl of pumpkin oats and that’s just what I made!

  • 1 C of vanilla soymilk
  • 1/2 C of quick oats
  • 3/4 C of pumpkin
  • 1 mashed banana
  • Pinch salt and cinnamon

My mix-ins were:

  • Cranberries
  • Sunflower and pumpkin seeds
  • Coconut
  • Spoonful of dark chocolate PB

Along with morning coffee + creamer and it was such a good breakfast. Pumpkin oats might be overtaking and becoming my favorite bowl of oats. It fills me up the best and I love the combo of coconut and pumpkin!

Okay, guys I’ve got a to-do list a mile long and I need to get cracking on it!

  1. Wine Juice boxes! I have never seen such a thing. Too bad they taste like paint thinner (yuck!)

Good job on your run this morning :)

Your bowl of oats looks great. I like all the combinations and how everything is sort of separate but meets in the middle.

  2. Hey Rose! I never saw them before either till I came across some at Target. I think they would be good for traveling, like going on a picnic or an outdoor activity. I try to make my oats look pretty but they don’t stay that way! Once the picture is taken, I mix everything up into a huge pile. :p

  3. Heather says:

    2 tips:

1 – you should be slightly chilly when you start out because you WILL warm up when you get moving. If you aren’t cold when you start out when you warm up you will be cooking.

2- EVERYONE’S butt and thighs gets cold. I would often wear my running shorts over my pants (my running shorts are like pants only shorts – as in tight – not sure if you know what I mean) and that helped a lot. Tights would probably help too.
