October 14th, 2008: Lunch and Dinner

Hey guys! I have to tell you that lunch was very unsatisfying yesterday. Meh.

Yucky lunch

Yucky lunch

I tried out the new wraps I bought on one my grocery excursions. I like burrito sized wraps because it’s easier for me to make something and actually wrap it up. However these were smaller but they were whole grain and the ingredient list wasn’t bad so I picked them up. First they are very small (smaller than I had thought!) and super thin. And a little shiny which I found weird. I was able to get Scott’s wrapped but couldn’t get mine wrapped so I decided to try it open faced. Romaine, two slices of turkey, cucumbers, black-eyed peas, and a drizzle of salsa. I ended up needing to cut this into pieces and eat it that way. The wrap was kind of grainy and not in a good way. I wanted a wrap, not a mish-mash of stuff on my plate, which is what I got. I stopped eating it and had about 1/4 of it left. Maybe even 1/3. I started in on the pear that is sitting pretty in the middle and it was too hard. And a little gritty. Meh. Hunger wise, I wasn’t hungry anymore so I just stopped eating. I was a little bummed about it not being an enjoyable meal though.

I finished painting our bedroom mirror, cleaned up a little bit, and did some laundry. I also worked on some site things, organizing pictures and getting those prepped for future posts. Then it was time to eat a small afternoon snack before heading to MT.

I had about 1/2 c of 0% fage (which is 10g of protein, woo!), small drizzle of honey, cranberries, and some bare naked granola. It was a good preworkout snack and lasted me several hours. MT class was small last night. I’m wondering if the fall/winter months are starting to take affect and people are not getting out as much. It was a good class though! I did get my right shin knocked pretty good. I was coming in for a right round and caught Scott on his knee. His legs are like steel, because there is no fat on them at all (no I’m not joking, they are rocks!), and eep! That smarted for a bit. Then we did some knees and doing straight knees for a whole round is tiring!

Came home and ran Rocky out for a quick walk (with some light jogging!). Then it was time to get started on supper! I bought a new rice cooker last week and decided to bust that out and give it a try. I loaded it up with some stock and jasmine rice and set it to cook. I went up and showered, then came back down to finish making dinner. The rice cooker took about 20 minutes to steam the rice and we ended up with 1.5 cups of cooked rice.

Dinner

Dinner

Dinner was some salmon that I marinated in pineapple juice, teriyaki, and some olive oil. Plus sea salt, pepper, garlic powder, chili powder, and some chopped green onion. The side was some sauteed savoy cabbage and onions. Then I added the leftover roasted veggies from Monday which was some sweet potato and carrots (we had eaten all of the zucchini Monday) and the last of the black-eyed peas. A little bit of chicken stock just to give it some extra juiciness. That got poured over some of the jasmine rice. I ate all of my side and half of my salmon fillet. This dinner was so yummy that it made up for the crap lunch. I loved this meal! I think I have decided that I don’t like black-eyed peas though. They are just a little too grainy/gritty of texture for me. I like beans to have a smooth silky inside and these don’t seem to have that kind of texture going on. Other than the peas, the sidedish was awesome!

After dinner we cleaned up and then watched the Pens play the Flyers. We taped the game because we wouldn’t make the 7:30 start since we don’t get home until about 7:30. However they went into OT and I wasn’t able to stay up any longer. It was going on 11pm and I was passing out on the couch. To bed I went.
