Wednesday, January 6th:

Hey gang!  Listen I totally punked out on my run Wednesday morning.  It was cold but the wind was killer.  I can deal with cold but wind gets to me really quickly and fast.  Running in the cold wind sucks no matter which way you look at it.   Running in it for days drains the soul. I’m for serious.   I only made it for 2.5 miles before I came home.  It got to me and I could not run any longer.  I almost didn’t even go because I could hear the wind but decided that I would just do what I could handle.  Something is better than nothing at all.   Then I shoveled the walk and the driveway so I am calling it good!  The cals I burned combined are equal to a 4 mile run so this is A WIN.

January 5th, 2010: Pump action

Hello lovelies! I guess I could have had those red onions at dinner last night after all.  Just after I finished publishing my entry, Scott informed me that he had to work late.  Which is understandable, two weeks off of work there is bound to be some stuff piled up that needs attending.  I changed into jammies and went to bed. I read for a bit and was asleep by 10pm. It was pretty fantastic and the first time I had been to bed that early in ages.

Today I had to bust out the YakTrax again for my morning run.  The current temp was 17degrees with winds at a lovely 10mph.  Lovely is said with as much sarcasm as possible.  I have a feeling this is going to be a short run week with these stinking temps I’m dealing with.  I was able to crank out 5 miles though.

The bonus of 17degrees over 4 degrees is that my hands did alright and there was no snot dangling from my nose.  The wind was brutal though but it was not constant, thank the lord or else I would have had some serious troubles.  I came home at 5 miles just happy with the fact that I was able to get out and actually run.  I promise I’m not hardcore, just stubborn.  And possibly seriously determined.  I live in an environment that gets cold so I have to adapt and deal with it, hence running in winter.

January 3rd and 4th, 2010: Mush

Hey all!  It is cold up in these parts.  And by cold, I mean, snot frozen to your face, cold.  Single digits and teens for temps.  Kick ass.

Please be prepared for the sharing of too much information and some yuckies.  If you are eating, you may want to revisit me at another time. ;)

I woke up Sunday morning ready to bust out my long run.  I was going to do 8 miles come hell or ice.  I hadn’t run in two days and wow but cranky A was rearing her head and that is never pretty.  I came downstairs to a message on the fridge that said, “Windchill Advisory in the AM”.  Picture this spelled out in magnetic fridge letters with some improvisations along the way.  My hunnies, always looking out for me!  I would have taken a picture but before I had a chance, the message was erased and replaced with “Cold”.

Word.

January 1st and 2nd, 2010: Impostor

Hi gang and a big huge welcome to 2010!  Which I keep wanting to type as 2110 for some reason. I would hate to think what my state of being would be like if I were to make it to such a date!

Thursday evening we had some bubbly and snacks.

Mmmm chocolate cookies!  We watched a bit of Twilight Zone and I just barely made it to midnight.  I quickly kissed my boys and headed to bed time where I immediately crashed out.

Friday, the first day of a brand new year and this is what I was greeted with.

Now I realize that this doesn’t look odd.  It’s a coffee pot, big deal.  Well the thing is, that’s not my coffee pot.  In fact I have no idea who’s coffee pot that is or where it came from.

This over here.

The one sitting on the floor?  That’s my coffee pot.

Like whoa!  Apparently some shenanigans happened after I went to bed.  I just went about my business prepping dinner and then poured myself a nice mug of coffee.  I had plans of possibly a light run or maybe some shred but my body said, “Hey, let’s not.”  And so I didn’t.  Rest days, we all need ‘em.  I had a wee bowl of yogurt + granola, and a bite of gingerbread bagel.  When I say bite, I mean that literally.

Wrapping up December 2009

Hi pretty pennies!  This is my last Daily Eats post of 2009 and well this is a big deal.  It means that for over a year I have been recording my daily eating habits for all the world to see.  Whoa!

And now I’m changing it up in herez!  Listen friends, here’s the skinny, when it comes to breakfast and lunch I’m boring as all get out.  It’s pretty clear that for breakfast I will either have:

  • Oats
  • Oatbran
  • Yogurt Mess

And for lunch I will have:

  • Salad
  • Smoothie
  • Fruit of some form or another

And for some reason I am thinking that you are incredibly bored reading about what kind of salad I had or which option I went with for breakfast.  Oh the suspense!  So I’m thinking that I’m going to skip over those.  I’ll mention it in passing I think and maybe talk about the smoothie more in depth, but what I’m going to start focusing on is dinner.  While we do have some specific days, like Fish Tuesday, dinner tends to be a bit more creative and different.  This will also allow me time to post on other topics I want to discuss and extend these posts to include more talk on training or whatever strikes my fancy.

December 27th and 28th, 2009: hot action

Hello strangers!  I promise I am not blowing you off but I’ve been trying to hang with mah man as much as possible this break.  Since he’s on vacation, this means he can stay up late and sleep as late as he wants.  This is where we differ completely.  I am a go-to-bed early and wake up early kinda gal.  If I could pull off 9 hour sleeps everyday I totally would but with scheduling (I’m looking at you late-night stick fighting classes!) and timing doesn’t allow for it everyday.

Scott is opposite, dude rolls into bed between four and five AM and sleeps till noon.  Which he can do on vacation.  But this means that the time we actually get to hang and spend together is short, therefore I’ve been trying to make the most of it that I can. :D  I know you dig.

Sunday morning I got up for a most glorious 8 mile run.  HELL YES!  That is my longest run since my half in May, so tossing me some props are most welcome.  It was also a great run, clocking in at 01:15.  For me, for 8 miles, that is awesome sauce.

December 25th and 26th, 2009: Christmas

Hello my pretties!  Did we all have a very happy holiday?  Christmas day was rocking at the HQ!

Me and Rocky

Christmas eve we practiced opening gifts to get ready for the big morning.  We worked on the gifts my mom sent which were food items and Pens gear.  Score!

She got us a boxed of mixed chocolates.  While I’m definitely a fan of dark chocolate over milk chocolate, I have a soft spot for a box of mixed chocolates.

Chocolate

I remember my grandmother always had a box of chocolates around for the holidays and this was back before you got a cheat sheet of what the chocolate was, so you had to take your chances.  Sometimes you won, and sometimes you got the toothpaste flavored one.  If you like Jim Gaffigan, then you know he refers to these chocolates as gamble chocolates. :p  I love gamble chocolates!  They remind me of my grandma.

Red wine

Christmas eve, I had three gamble chocolates along with some red wine.

December 23rd and 24th, 2009: Vacation

On the first day of vacation, my true love slept till noon and I ran five cold miles.

Five cold miles.

I wanted to run a bit longer but during my run, my right hamstring started bothering me.  Stupid hamstring!  It started getting tight on me and achy, so I cut the run short at five miles.  I didn’t let that bother me nor did I even give the hamstring another thought.

I showered and then had a loverly bowl of oats.

Coffee and oats

Regular oats and some glorious coffee.  Why does coffee always taste better when you’re on vacation?  I made the usual batch forgetting for a second that Scott wouldn’t wake up till lunch time.  Unfortunately I had to toss the leftovers, boo.  It was just a small amount so not worth saving really.

I got stuff done around the house including getting Rocky out for his walk and then I made us some lunchie.

Smoothie, salad, fruit

December 22nd, 2009: let’s get it started

Hi gang!  Look at all of your amazing responses to the body issue list!  It’s a really interesting thing to learn about what we like and don’t like about ourselves.  And do we not love the fact that we also got a dude’s perspective?!  Whatup Brett!  Brett is a friend of ours and he also trains in SF with us. :D  You all rock it!

I did not make a special drink after posting last night.  I was wiped out and actually went to bed to read and then I was asleep by 10pm.  I’m currently reading a Dean Koontz book which is just okay.  It’s a pretty light read and I imagine I’ll be done with it soon.  I need more books! :p  I don’t really dig on romance books or fluffy-bunny books.  I like suspense, crime, drama, supernatural (but for the love of all that is holy not Twilight); got any suggestions for me?  What are you reading right now?

December 21st, 2009: 7 things

NutrollLast night while sipping some white wine (unpictured because that was Scott’s job and he forgot) I munched on some nutroll.  I make both individual pieces and bigger log sizes.  They are awesome and my favorite thing about Christmas time.  Speaking about the food portion of course.  I fiddled with the recipe this year to experiment a bit and try to make it a little more healthy.  Original recipes tend to call for lots of butter and shortening, and that’s just in the dough!  Plus loads upon loads of sugar.  I changed that up and made a pretty tasty treat!

I would love to say I went to bed early, but I totally didn’t because after finishing Saturday’s hockey game, I got sucked into a Venture Bros. episode.  Oh Venture Bros. you get me everytime. Any other Adult Swim fans out there?

Because Rocky was totally snug in bed like a bug, I got to sleep in a little this morning.  Joy!  I putzed around drinking some coffee and getting the office squared away.  I woke up Scott and realized that I probably should make breakfast.  I wasn’t too hungry so I asked Scott if he wanted the leftovers and he did.  Score.
