New Year’s at OHC

Hi gang!  Happy New Year!  I hope that you all had a great holiday season and are ready to start the new year with vim and vigor!  We totally are, I have lots of plans and ideas that I need to get more organized and laid out.  Then I’m ready to tackle them to make 2011 the best year yet!

Our holiday vacation is dwindling rapidly and the past few days have been really low key here at the HQ.  We typically keep things pretty low key but this year has been even more so.

I had big plans for productivity on Friday, however the universe had other plans resulting in Scott and I spending the entire day dealing with the outcome of an unfortunate incident that happened.

I’ll explain more at another time because right now this post is about celebrations and newness, not ickiness.

Friday evening we had lobster tails for dinner.

Cutting lobster tails is a pain in the butt.  The shells fly everywhere and they can be tough to get through.  Therefore I have passed the torch off to Scott and had him cut the tails.  Sorry to subject you to a dirty dish rag, I had just wiped off my pizza stone.

I make the tails really simply.  I cook them in a 400 degree oven.  I line a cookie sheet with foil and spray it with nonstick spray.  I brush the tails lightly with olive oil and sprinkle on some sea salt.  It takes maybe 10 minutes in the oven.  Remember that seafood cooks quickly and tails are no exception.

We had some roasted cauliflower along with the tails.  Melted Kerry Gold butter to dip the lobster into completed the meal.

No NYE is complete with out some bubbly!  We kept things simple and tried out Barefoot’s Bubbly.

So far so good! Perfectly bubbly bubbly!

I almost didn’t have any because I was crashing hard from dealing with the day but I changed my mind and had a small bit.  It was lovely and we snacked on some popcorn while watching Twilight Zone.

I didn’t make it to midnight and crashed out by 11:30pm.  And then proceeded to sleep for almost 12 hours.  Whoa!  I woke back up around 11ish the next morning.  Just in time to get dinner going in the crockpot and settle in to watch the Rose Parade on HGTV.

Did any of you watch that?  Good lord it was horrible.  The coverage was so bad and the hosts were even worse.  HGTV used to be amazing with coverage and information but now it’s a joke.

It rained all day yesterday and I don’t mind telling you that I spent the whole day in my jammies.  Oh yeah!  Scott and I just hung out on the couch watching TV.

It was a perfect day because I really had no energy or desire to do anything more.  Thank goodness dinner was easy!

For us, it’s tradition to have pork and sauerkraut on New Year’s Day.  I cooked some country style pork ribs in the crockpot with sauerkraut, tomatoes, peppers, and onions.  Side of mashed potatoes and roasted carrots rounded out the dinner.  It was amazing!  We ate while watching The Winter Classic.

Sadly it was a horrible game under horrible conditions.  After the game I crashed out in bed again!

Totally lazy day was exactly what I needed.

Did you have a great New Year’s Eve and Day?  How did you spend your time? Do you like going out or staying home?

  1. I have yet to find a champagne that I like. It always sounds yummy…maybe I’ll give it a try again. Happy 2011 to the whole OHC famiy :-D

  2. mmm melted Kerrygold butter. Delicious!

Andy and I tried Barefoot’s bubbly for NYE too. I added a splash of POM juice to it for some sweetness. Pretty good.

  3. Great minds thinking alike: we had lobsters on New Year’s Eve and pork with sauerkraut on New Year’s Day! AND we had bought that same Barefoot Bubbly. Never got around to opening it as I was enjoying my wine a bit too much instead!

  4. Frankly I’ve been sick for so long it feels like I’ve been rocking the PJs at home thing for way too long!

Having said that, I really enjoyed our super low key NYE! :)

We had takeout, and played with our new big screen tv + PS3 combo. It was a giant leap up from my 16 inch law school television! lol

  5. We spent all day Saturday in our jammies! :) It was so great. We cleaned and I de-cluttered parts of the house. Watched too much football and veggied. It was wonderful.

  6. We had a great New Years weekend! We had a combo of relaxing and organizing all done in the comfort of jammies with football on a beer nearby. The lobster looks so great! We made homemade pasta.
