Yasmin, I must eat something after working out or my body will get really cranky. I think refueling is important but I think eating the right things will help that and not blow the workout. Like fruit, yogurt, granola, stuff like that is good. Eating some McDonald's afterwards not so much. That would blow the workout for sure.

Amanda, Isn't it funny what our bodies crave sometimes? It's an always evolving ever learning process.

Kilax, Thanks girl!

TGirl, Yikes! Have you figured out a way on approaching this new news?

Meredith, Thanks! <img src='/images/biggrin.gif' alt=':D' />

Gena, I appreciate that! Like I mentioned before, I'm still learning but it's going a bit smoother now.

Dana, Welcome to OHC! Thank you for sharing your experience! Are you living on campus? I know college eating when having to rely on the school for meals can be very challenging indeed.

I'm a college track athlete so i definitely know the importance of refueling and fueling prior to exercise. although i may require more fuel pre and post workout, it all boils down to the same thing. your body needs it to recover to be the healthiest it can be. and no, eating right after you work out will not defeat the purpose of working out because after you workout your body is depleated of its energy stores and needs something (and then some) for optimal recovery! even something small such as a piece of bread with a little peanut butter or even just a glass of milk and a piece of fruit (a glass of chocolate milk is optimal for the carbs to protein ratio) for the past year and a half i HAVE been fueling/refueling properly for my workouts, yet i HAVENT been eating enough otherwise to keep my body strong, which i am currently working on. trust your body! loved this post.

It's very wise and important to know what your body thrives on. Way to figure it out, Andrea!

Your blog can be many things. Don't feel like you have to stick to one format (such as daily eats). You will always have readers :)

I'm in a similar place right now. On the surface I eat really healthfully but it turns out I wasn't giving my body what it needed. 

This week I went to the Dr. and he told me I was likely anemic. It seems the pescatarian thing may need some revising. Le sigh.

I think it is great to have a log, so you could look back and see where you "messed up." I bet over time, proper fueling will become more and more natural, but that's just it - it takes time. And everyone's body's are different. It's your own (fun) personal journey!

I hope you have better run recoveries this week!

I need to learn how to fuel myself as well. I am new to running and never know when I've ran "enough" to warrant refueling. But I got incredibly sick after a 3 mile run and was craving protein like crazy. I'm definitely going to try to up the protein and listen to my body more.

This is a really interesting post. I too read alot about fueling and re-fueling the body. It just seems strange to eat after working out, defeating the purpose. I feel like I eat enough to fuel my body but still feel lacking in the energy department. How do I know if I'm eating enough? I'm rambling..sorry it's early in the morning.
