December 11th, 2009: Bookends

Hi gang!  Remember on Thursday how I said I was going to have some seriously decadent dessert?  Well first I had some wine.

red wine

Mmmm red!  And then….

Pumpkin cheesecake

Cheesecake!  I picked up a mini pumpkin cheesecake when we were at Whole Foods.  I love cheesecake!  And seriously how often do I eat it?  Exactly so I thought it was time to indulge.  Now I’m pretty particular about my cheesecake experience.  If I’m eating cheesecake then I want it to be thick, rich, and decadent.  Totally worth the time and the calories.  I want this to be a great experience when I decide to eat some cheesecake.

This pumpkin cheesecake was a disaster.  I took two bites and was done.  Bah!  It was like eating a mousse that was placed in a mold.  Seriously it was way too fluffy creamy for a cheesecake.

I said forget it!  I’m not wasting calories on a sub-par cheesecake.

muffin and a cookie

Instead I pulled out the very last chocolate zucchini muffin and also had one of those chocolate chip cookies.  Hey if I’m eating dessert it’s gotta be good! :D

Chocolate soymilk

I got up early on Friday morning to hit some running action.  It was cold and windy which stank but at least it wasn’t as windy like the previous two days.  I wore two of my new Nike things I got and sadly they didn’t work out.  :(  I bought a new running toboggan because it had great reviews about how well it worked.  Well for me it didn’t, it won’t stay down over my ears, it creeps up during the run.  Not good.

Also, the new “cold-weather” jacket I got isn’t really suitable for really cold weather and it doesn’t block wind at all.  I have a really great jacket from Nike but it’s slightly too big on me and I was hoping to get another one.  Well, they discontinued the one I currently have so I was looking for an alternative.  It’s a really nice jacket though and I’ll be able to wear it in the rain (as it blocks rain) and in warmer weather.  Just not cut out for December cold.

Because my jacket wasn’t blocking the wind I had to wrap up the run at 5 miles.  I wanted to do 6 but it wasn’t happening.

I stretched, showered, and put on my fluffy robe.

Coffee and oats

I made some oats with some unsweetened coconut on top and a scoop of dark chocolate PB.  I did some stuff around the house and then walked Rocky.  It was so cold outside that he needed to wear his big-boy jacket and that wind was brutal.  It had picked up since my run.  Lordy!  I am so done with wind.

After all that it was time for lunch:

Salad

Salad!  Not loaded down with veggies but at least I had some lettuce.

  • Red leaf and red romaine lettuce
  • Walnuts
  • Cranberries
  • Feta
  • Sunflower and pumpkin seeds

Balsamic+honey+olive oil on top.  Scott picked up some local raw honey and it is amazing.  I have been looking for local honey for a while (Ever read the ingredients on a honey bottle?  Most of them say a product of US and Brazil. Why do we get honey from Brazil?!) for lots of reasons.  Well he found some and this is just heaven.  Love it!

Smoothie

Smoothie:

  • 1C Carrot Juice
  • 1C Unsweetened Cranberry-Pom juice
  • 1C Water
  • Spinach
  • Frozen peaches
  • Frozen mango

veggie sushi

Carrots and cucumber came in the form of some veggie sushi with brown rice.

Smoothie, salad, sushi

YUM!  I dipped the sushi in some Spicy Thai Dressing I picked up at Whole Foods which is just so tasty.  It’s different and it’s not what I would call spicy, but it does taste great and it’s perfect for sushi. Scott and I split the sushi; I had four pieces.

Finally after some kitchen clean-up I could get to shopping!  I spent the rest of the day with my butt glued to the couch shopping for my loves.  We tend to go all out for each other at Christmas time.  It’s something we like doing and we love surprising each other and spending the time to find the perfect gifts.  For birthdays and our anniversary we usually just chill out and maybe hit dinner out.  Christmas is a whole other ball game and is a big deal at the HQ.  :D

Once that was done, I fed Rocky dinner (I told you it was the rest of the day!) and then we headed out to the grocery store.  When I was sick, Scott stopped by the local Kroger to get me some soup.  We don’t shop at Kroger because every one I’ve been in is pretty sad looking.  Anyway, he said this Kroger got revamped and has a huge natural foods section, great produce section, and a bulk bins section.

I am so there!  First I had an apple and two prunes.

apple

I was hungry and needed to keep that at bay for a bit.

We stopped by last night to check it out and I was blown away.  I was able to get everything that I get at Meijer AND at Whole Foods, save for just a few things.  It was amazing!  The prices are better, sometimes just by a few cents but that to me is better.  The sales are better for sure.  We might be switching over to Kroger.  I have to give it a few more times before I fully decide.

When we got home I was fading fast.  FAST! I was starving.  I munched on some tortilla chips and salsa while I made dinner.  Unpictured because I was too busy putting stuff together.  I didn’t have much though.  Lately my pre-dinner snacking has been a bit much and I need to curb that right quick.  When I was first losing weight and on that journey, I would snack on raisins while I made dinner if I was hungry and needed something.  I’m going to go back to that for a bit.  Unless it’s a special day and baked chips are necessary. ;)

Fish and veggies

I made fish and veggies!  It was the quickest and easiest thing I could throw together.  I found some wild caught red snapper at Kroger (they have a really nice frozen fish section) and I have never made it before so I decided it was time!

The fish got brushed with soy sauce and coconut oil then sprinkled with:

  • Sea salt
  • Garlic powder
  • Chili powder
  • Grill seasoning (no salt added)
  • Cayenne pepper

Baked at 400 for about 10 minutes.

Veggies were cauliflower and yellow squash, similar seasonings as the fish.

After dinner, it was 9pm and all I wanted was to sit on the couch.  We started Thursday’s hockey game and then it was snack time.

wine

Wine!  This bottle is huge, when we pull it out again, I’ll take a picture of it next to a regular sized bottle.  You’ll laugh. :p

toffee and cookies

Then I had two cookies and some toffee!  Scott picked this up at Whole Foods and it’s amazing.  I don’t have many sweet weaknesses but toffee for sure is one.  I just love it and definitely have to keep myself in check when it’s in my presence. :p

I only made it through two periods before I had to call it a night.  I was passing out on the couch.  I hit the hay and was immediately dead to the world. :)

  1. I was going to say, that cheesecake looks a bit odd! ;)

What a bummer that your new runner gear didn’t work out. I would be really frustrated about that… especially if it is Nike! It’s not too cheap!

  2. a says:

Ughh i hate sub par cheesecake.
I find it’s hit or miss with storebought ones. Sometimes they’re awesome but usually they’re either incredibly airy or mousse like.

Your salad looks pretty yum though :)

  3. Aww, bummer the cheesecake was a fail. I agree though, I WILL NOT waste my calories on a sub-par dessert. Dessert has to be loved, every singe bit. Anything less than wonderful is just not worth it! :)

Hope you have a wonderful weekend girl!

  4. I am a HUGE cheesecake lover, too! I’m also a total snob about it. It has to be worth it! Sorry that pumpkin one was bad. The rest of your eats look delicious :)

  5. I hate when desserts disappoint! I wouldn’t have finished it either. I love dense cheesecake! My fav! Speaking of dense cakes….PF Chang’s has a Chocolate Dome dense cake (GF) and it is amazing! Have you tried it?

Sorry your cold running gear didn’t work out. My FIL tried to convince me to run outside with him this AM….NO WAY! LOL! I did 8 at the gym on the TM with a couple of magazines in the warmth. Below 25 or so and I am a big wimp.
