July 5th, 2009: A Sunday Kind of Love

Hi gang!  Before I get into eats and our day, first I’m going to tell you why I told Scott to get stuffed. :D  Part of the reason was that I had already been down the road of, Hey-we’re-friends-let’s-date, TWICE. And both of them ended ugly.  One guy was an ass and the other guy was a rebound dude who also was an ass but for different reasons.  I did not want to jump on that rollercoaster again.

But that was only part of the reason and an actually very small part.  The actual deal was that Scott and I had this very strong connection on so many levels.  And I knew that this was it.  The for real shit you read about and swoon over.  This was the real deal and that we would in each other’s lives always and forever.  At 20 years old this scared the crap outta me.  That kind of love and connection at 20? Whoa let’s just chill for a minute.  Of course he was all, “Whatever I’m down” but it took me a little bit longer to come around. ;)

Okay on to eats!

July 5th marks our official, we are legally recognized as a couple, day.  I had some plans but Mo’ Nature had been tossing rain at us all weekend and my plans involved being outside.  I was pretty bummed when I woke up to find everything overcast and damp.  I took care of Rocky and busted out a 3.5 mile run.  Whoo!

Chocolate soymilk Some recovery drink after my run, then I moved on to stretches!

After changing into comfy clothes and I put together some fuel.  I was going to take Rocky on a walk later when Scott got up.

Coffee and yogurt

Coffee, wheee!  And yogurt with:

  • Sliced bananas
  • 1 peach
  • Granola
  • 2% Fage (love!)

Mixed it all together and chowed down while I finished my book.  Then I worked on yesterday’s recipe and started emails to several people who need emails back from me. I promise they are on the way!

It finally started getting sunny and warm out which made me happy.  When Scott got up I told him that we could do whatever he wanted.  We could stay home and chill or we could go out and do what I had planned for us.  He said to go! :D

First I made us some lunch.

Salad, fruit, and bread

Special salad:

  • Mixed greens
  • Sunflower and pumpkin seeds
  • Shredded beet
  • Sundried tomatoes
  • Sundried tomato and basil goat cheese

Topped with white wine vinegar and some of the olive oil the tomatoes were in.  So fabbo!  Fresh peaches and nectarines. A piece of multigrian bread toasted and topped with smashed avocado sprinkled with S&P, and chili garlic hot sauce. My new love! This lunch made my bellah happy.  It was nice to munch on some fresh fruit and I just can’t get enough avocados in my diet.  They are so creamy and delish that I need my own tree.  The salad turned a bit creamy too as the goat cheese broke down and sort of covered everything with it’s tangy goodness.

After lunch, we both got dressed and took Rocky out for his quick walk.  It was hot out by this point so we didn’t take him too far.  He came home and plopped down on the tile floor.  I packed us a quick snack, loaded directions on my iPhone, and we were off.

Scott and I in the car

Backing out of the driveway ready to roll!

Scott had no idea where we were going.  I just told him where to turn and when.  Finally when we came across a road sign with directions he realized where we were headed.

Rose garden

Inniswood Gardens!  This is where we got hitched four years ago, in the rose garden section of the park.  Unfortunately the roses weren’t looking too hot this year but the year we got married they were in full bloom and there was a ton of them.  Getting married at Inniswood is free. But you can’t pre-plan it or reserve the rose garden.  You have to just show up and hope for the best.  Since it was just us, it really wasn’t a big deal.  Oh yeah we eloped. :D  Big weddings with all the stuffs, and showers, and so on, is totally not our thing. So we skipped over all that stuff. That’s me standing on the spot where we were married.

Scott and IUs by some very pretty yellow flowers that I was calling “prehistoric” flowers because the stems were so bizarre!

A few highlights so you don’t feel overloaded.  I’ll spread more pictures throughout the week.

Trail There are trails and paths that go all around the gardens. I wanted to explore the park because we didn’t explore at all when we got married.  I was starving so we jetted to breakfast and then back home that day.  Today was about spending time together and that included exploring!

Me laughingMe laughing at something totally silly that Scott said while we were walking around.

FlowerThere were some of my favorite flowers.

3.5 hours later we were done walking around. :o  It was hot and I was getting hungry.

Me holding snacks

For the ride home, we got out the snacks.  Organic sparkling raspberry green tea and some trail mix.

When we got back home both of us were starving! We changed into grungy clothes since we were going to grill and headed out to the deck. I needed to stuff my face more so I had some of this:

Hummus and crackers

Kashi crackers and hummus with hot sauce on top. I had a few to get me through the grilling time.

Scott

Someone getting all the grill things together.

Rocky

My kid enjoying being outside.

For whatever reason the coals took forever to light.  I was getting pretty cranktastic because I was so hungry! I looked a little something like this, The crackers I ate disappeared because I didn’t think it would take an hour just for the coals to start.  Finally it did and then we had inferno heat!

Corn, steak, kielbasa, slaw

There was steak that had been chilling with a dry rub since Saturday, kielbasa, corn on the cob, and leftover purple people eater slaw.  So good!  Except for a few bits of corn and kielbasa, I cleared that whole plate.

We cleaned up the kitchen a bit and I plopped down on the couch while Scott showered.  I was so close to falling asleep.  We watched house hunters and sipped on this.

Pink lemonade

Some sparkling pink lemonade.  I like it but almost couldn’t finish the glass as it got too sweet on me near the end.  Umph.  At 10pm I headed up to bed to read for a bit and before 11pm, I crashed out.

What a great day!  Happy Anniversary Babies!

Scott and I

  3. Happy Anniversary! Iniswood Gardens looks so beautiful. That’s so nice that you went back there. I love the pic of those flowers, too! It looks so artsy :D

  4. Congrats on your anniversary — maybe a bit of trivia is why you guys waited so long to get married?

You are a disciplined eater! Looking at that picture of the steak and how little you eat, I can’t even fathom that.
