July 27th, 2009: Maintenance

Hi guys!  I got up this morning and crossed my fingers hoping that there would not be another oatmeal debacle because I was armed with a banana this time.  I made oats and did not add blueberries.

Oatmeal

Instead I added some blueberry rhubarb sauce that I made yesterday.

Oatmeal and coffee

With coffee and after the pick I swirled the sauce all through the oats.  And the oats were fabbo!  My banana was a little under ripe but it still made the oats creamy smooth.

Then I got dressed and headed out to the girlie doc for routine maintenance.  Does anyone like doing that?  I doubt it.  I think I might switch docs though.  Where I go to now is a huge office with multiple locations and lots of doctors.  I never see the same person and it feels very impersonal.  They are also an obstetrician’s office which means the only magazines they have on hand are either mom mags or pre-mom mags.  What about the rest of us?  Highlights doesn’t do it for me.  Pfffftttttt!

After my checkup I headed over and picked up my race packet for this week!  Hooray race!  I’m actually getting pretty excited for it now.  Before I was like, “Eh, whatever.”  But now I’m all, “Yes let’s race!”  The race packet is pretty weak and the technical shirt I got is huge.  Um, it’s also a men’s size.  What about those of us that aren’t dudes?!

I was feeling very marginalized today.

Me holding race bib OH yeah you know it! Number 1 all the way!

When I made it back home, I started lunch prep because I was hungry and all I could focus on was VEGGIES!

Salad

No playing around today.  It was all about the Hugh Jass salad!

  • Mixed greens
  • Shredded carrot and parsnip
  • Cucumber
  • Broccoli
  • Beets
  • Corn
  • Peas

With roasted tomato dressing that I made.  I had some tomatoes that turned but I didn’t want to throw them out.  I roasted them with some red onion, garlic cloves, and green pepper.  Tossed in the food processor with red wine vinegar, olive oil, and grainy mustard for a lovely dressing!  It’s a little on the thicker side but it goes over the salad nicely.

Smoothie

SMOOTHIE said in my best grunty animalistic voice.  It’s not pretty so you don’t want to hear it, I promise! ;)

  • 1.5C Unsweetened cranberry juice
  • .5C POM
  • 1C water
  • Spinach
  • Carrot and parsnip
  • Frozen blueberries
  • Frozen peaches
  • Frozen pineapple

Perfection!

Watemelon and cantaloupe

Melons!

Smoothie, salad, and fruit

Oh my goodness this lunch was perfect! And I kicked that salad like it broke into my house.

Before lunch I was feeling like this:

Me off balance Totally off balance and outta sync.

And it’s not like I ate crap either, you all saw what I ate Saturday and Sunday.  It was because I had little to no raw fruits and veggies.  I have come such a long way in a year with my eats and learning about my body. And listening to what it is telling me.  I would not label myself a rawist or raw foodie.  Mostly because I hate labels, why put limits on ourselves?  Just do whatever and enjoy it! But I will say that I’m a huge believer in incorporating more raw foods into one’s diet.  Even if it’s just an apple or a carrot once a day.  Something not processed or altered in anyway but fresh and real.

After my lunch I felt like this!

Me strong and energized

Big difference!  Strong and full of energy!  As soon as I started eating I could feel myself start to become more balanced inside again.

Alright, I’m off like a thong that’s too tight!  I’ve got so much to do and get done I need to focus on organizing the crap outta my life right now.  Catch you for dinner!
