Hi guys!  Sorry for being MIA yesterday but the day was spent with me laying on the couch trying to nurse my stupid knee.  It’s the only casuality from my 1/2 but more on that in a minute.

Saturday night I only had two small glasses of wine and then I hit the hay around 10:30ish.  We watched the Pens game and they lost. Booo!  They are playing the Capitals whom I hate with a firey passion.  I’m hoping the series doesn’t turn ugly.  The Flyers and The Caps are two huge rivals.

Then I got up in the morning and had some coffee, no picture because my mug looked yucky.  I slept okay only waking up a few times as I rolled over because my knee hurt a bit.  If I haven’t moved it for a while it gets stiff and takes a second to warm up.  My first several steps are stunted and I limp a bit.  Then I was able to walk slightly better.  I texted Rose to wish her luck (her race started at 7:30!  Early!), and headed into the office to check on some stuff.

I wasn’t there too long and headed into the TV room to prop my leg and watch some food shows that I haven’t seen in ages.  As much as I sometimes pick on the chefs I miss food TV.  I haven’t seen any shows in so long!  I got hungry and decided to have a small bowl of yogurt.

With chocolate granola and cranberries.  I also iced my knee.  Around 10 I got Rocky geared up for a walk.  It was supposed to rain yesterday and I wanted to get his walk over with in the event it did.  We went slow because I couldn’t really walk that fast and didn’t go far.  I figured that a 2 mile walk probably wouldn’t be the best for my knee. :p

We came back home and I changed back into my jammies.  I prepped chicken for dinner later and laid back down on the couch.  Scott got up not long after I started watching a Golden Girls marathon on The Hallmark channel.  I freaking love that show.  I love it so much that I’ll gladly watch episodes that I’ve seen dozens of times.  It’s so hilarious and so deliciously 80s that it’s fantastic.  RIP Bea, you were awesome.

Once Scott got up, I told him how much I did not want to go to the store.  I didn’t feel like facing the craz-ah Sunday crowd nor did I think I could actually walk around for that long.  He said it wasn’t a big deal but then I had the task of trying to figure out decent side dishes for dinner!  He sat on the couch with me for a bit and eventually I made it to the kitchen to heat up lunch.

Easy peasy

Easy peasy

I took the easy way out and just heated up leftover Chinese.

I did not eat that entire portion.  Mostly just picked at it to help curb my hunger.  It was still yummy and still lacking veggies. :p  After lunch we hung out on the couch playing games.  We finished Left 4 Dead thank Jeebus.  It is just not my style of game.  It’s okay and I’ll play it but I don’t love it or have any desire to play it.  After we kicked that we moved on to Batman Lego which is so much better! :p  Lunch didn’t hold me over proper and I was feeling empty.  Plus we had not eaten any fruits yet so I decided to make smoothies.

So good!

So good!

Along with my smoothie I snacked on some 7 grain pretzel sticks, I had maybe 7?  The smoothie was awesome and used some new ingredients for me.

  • 2C of cranberry juice
  • 1C of water
  • 1/2 scoop vanilla protein powder
  • 1/3C old fashioned oats
  • Small spoonful of yogurt
  • Banana
  • Frozen peaches
  • Frozen mango
  • Frozen blueberries

It was awesome!  A bit thicker but so creamy!  I added the protein powder and oatmeal so that it would help fill me up.  Which it totally did!  I couldn’t use it as a meal replacement but it did satisfy me.  Scott was a little concerned at first when he saw me pull out the oatmeal but once he tasted the smoothie he was a fan and all concerns washed away.  The oatmeal gave it a nice thickness and was not gritty at all.  It blended really well!

We played some more while munching and drinking the smoothies.

I got up a bit later to feed Rocks and pull the chicken out so it could come to room temperature.  Then we played a bit more.  Around 7ish it was time to make dinner!  Since it wasn’t raining and didn’t even look like rain, we fired up the grill.  YaY!

summer time....

We had grilled chicken thighs, corn on the cob, and green beans and carrots.  Which were frozen and I just heated them up in some chicken broth, buffalo sauce, and salsa.  When you’re lacking on veggies you have to turn to frozen and do the best you can.  The chicken was brined and the rub involved chocolate and that’s all I’m telling you. ;)

After dinner we plopped back down on the couch where I iced my knee again.  We had some wine and watched two episodes of Heroes.  Only one left to watch and then it’s finally over for the season!  Hooray!  With my second small glass of wine I had a few dark chocolate chips, clearly not that whole bowl.  At 11:30 I called it a day and went to sleep. :D

My right knee

My right knee is very sore on the back part of my leg.  It’s not sore to touch, but stiff and sore to walk.  I can put weight on it no problem.  It sort of feels like it got over extended because it’s as I extend my leg out to take a step when the pain happens.  I started getting pain in that area during the 1/2 right around the 11 mile marker and at that point I’m not stopping.  I kept my pace slow and tried not to take huge strides.  It was pretty sore all day Saturday following the race.  I iced my knee and took some ibuprofen.  My knee is swollen, but the part that is swollen is the inside part of my knee which is weird.

Yesterday morning it was very sore and a little difficult to walk.  It wasn’t very comfortable standing around either.  If I sit or lay down for too long it gets stiff so when I stand up and start walking, those first few steps are a little painful but then it warms up and I can walk better.  Towards the end of the day yesterday it started getting even better.  While on the couch I worked with it.  I would sit with my leg bent for a while and then straighten it for a while and kept that cycle going.  I had to do this when I dislocated my left knee several years ago to help take the stiffness and soreness away and thought maybe it would help this too.

I don’t know if it did but my knee is better.  It’s still swollen a bit but last night I was able to move my leg around without there being any pain.  And I slept fine, my leg didn’t wake me up.  It still gets stiff if I sit or lay down for a bit but now it’s only like the first two steps before it warms up and I can walk normally.  There is still a bit of pain when I extend my leg but not like it was before.  I’m giving it a few days to see what happens and if it’s still swollen then I’ll give my doctor a call.  I was hoping to be running again by Tuesday but clearly that’s not going to happen.

I’m cranky about it because this is the only problem I have!  My IT band didn’t give me any issue.  After the race I iced both my knees right away and they were fine the rest of the day (my knee proper, obviously the back of my right was sore. ;) ).  And I had energy!  I was expecting to be spent but I wasn’t at all.  If it wasn’t for this silly whatever I’m dealing with, I would have made it through my 1/2 with flying colors!  Grrrr!

Anyways that’s what’s going on with me. :)

  1. Hope the knee gets better soon!! Sounds like you are taking good care of it :)

I’ve always wanted to try oatmeal in a smoothie, sounds great!!

    Have a good Monday!

  2. I hope your knee’s ok :) I love Golden Girls too. It’s not on on any UK channels though :( I’m the same with Friends, E4 plays 2 episodes back to back every day from the first episode to the last and then just starts all over again. Plus I have them all on VHS, but I still never get tired of watching it.

  3. I”m so glad that corn on the cob is getting back in season — we had some last night as well and even though it wasn’ tquite “in season,” it was far better than canned corn.

I hope your knee is feeling better!
