Review: Chobani Greek Yogurt

Chobani Yogurt

Chobani Yogurt

Anyone who reads my Daily Eats section knows that I love me some Greek Yogurt.  And even if you don’t read that section, I’ve already reviewed my favorite Greek yogurt, so maybe you’ve seen that.  But just in case you are an OHC virgin (GASP! Let’s fix that quick, shall we?) and brand spanking new to my site, please walk away with knowing about two of my loves:

1. Greek Yogurt

2. Dark as hell beer

Not necessarily in that order.  I do have other loves that interestingly enough also involve yogurt and other dark things, but since this is a Food Blog, how about we stick with the above two for now?  Good.

Even though I have my favorite Greek Yogurt, I am open to expanding both my mind and my mouth.  Meaning, I’m willing to try anything at least once.  Chobani has exploded (not literally or we would be making non-PG references because exploding yogurt is ripe for all kinds of off color jokes) all over the interwebs.  People were getting sent samples and others hav e found it in their stores.  The Chobani fairy did not visit me nor could I find it in stores fro a very long time.  Finally my local Meijer got some in.  To Meijer’s credit, while they are slow about getting in new healthy products, I don’t really think their main clientèle is asking for it.  Even though I complain about their reluctance to get in products (Hello, can we finally have some Whole Wheat pastry flour?) it’s just to myself because I understand what the deal is.

May 26th, 2009: Dinner: Coconut crunch!

Hi guys!  Can we talk about dinner?  Awesome!  It’s Tuesday and even though we didn’t make MT this evening (Hubs had to work), I still made fish and rice for dinner.  Except I decided to experiment with the fish this time around.  Thankfully the experiment paid off!

Hello coconut crusted tilapia!  I just threw stuff together so I don’t have exact measurements but I’m thinking about posting it as a recipe anyway because it turned out really nice.  And the tilapia was baked so healthly bonus there and I also used some other “healthy” ingredients.  Whee! :D  On the side was some brown rice that I seasoned with a little soy sauce, red pepper flakes, curry powder, and garlic powder.  Mmmmm  And also a baked sweet potato.  I was going to make some b-nut fries but as I was cutting up the b-nut, the smell was a little off-putting.  Not that it was bad, but I just realized that b-nut was not what I wanted.  Except for a few bites of rice, I totally cleaned my plate. :D

Anyone going to BlogHer Food ’09

BlogHer Food 09Have you guys seen this?  I came across it the other day and it piqued my interest.  I have been tossing around the idea of attending a BlogHer event for ages.  But I was concerned that some of the panels and speakers might not apply to food blogging because food blogging is a whole other beastie.  And now with the BlogHer doing a food specific based conference I’m definitely interested to see what’s going down.

I know Tina mentioned that she is going, is anyone else?  I’m debating it.  I hate traveling alone and I haven’t been on a plane in ages.  Perhaps if I found a travel buddy?  I’m not talking about sharing a hotel room or anything, just hooking up for the flight and having a buddy backup at the conference. :D

There’s also rumors of a Food Blogging Summit but I haven’t heard word on when that is supposed to be.  I can only do one or the other and BlogHer tickets sell out fast so planning is a must.

May 26th, 2009: Breakfast and Lunch: Back to the grind

Hi gang!  Happy Tuesday!  It’s nice to be able to start off that way instead of Happy Monday.  Tuesday is much more appealing. :p  I got up earlyish this morning at 7am, because I had a morning PT appointment.  I was dragging out of bed too!  My alarm went off and I was right in the middle of a dream.  I hate when that happens because it makes me so groggy and fog headed.  I needed something to clear the mind.

Coffee was decent enough this morning.  Not creamy bliss like our fancy coffee we save for the weekend.  I drank my coffee and did office stuff.  Then I headed up to shower and wake up Scott.  I was starving after my shower and felt like something with a little more chew and texture to it.

Yummy, not so filling

The meant I made some oats today!  I haven’t had oats in ages.  It was perfect and hit the spot.  Although it didn’t last me as long as oatbran normally does.

May 25th, 2009: Couch potato

Hi guys!  Yesterday I wanted nothing more than to just chill out with my huns and that’s exactly what I did!  I was up before he was, so I wrote my recap of Sunday dinner and then headed into the TV room. I had some coffee while flipping through the channels.

Coffee good, toast icky

Coffee good, toast icky

I also had a small piece of 9 grain bread toasted with a bit of almond butter.  I love this bread but not as toast, ew.  Nothing was on TV and I was so bummed out that TNT was not doing a Law&Order marathon but instead doing an ER marathon.  What is up with that TNT?!  Long weekends were made for Law&Order, not silly medical dramas that George Clooney won’t even acknowledge he was on.  I’m just saying.

So I watched Shat.  What?  His show was on, there was a marathon of his Shatner Raw show but I don’t remember the channel.  I saw him chat with Nemoy and Drew Carey.  They actually weren’t bad shows!  They did seem short though as the show is only 1/2 an hour long.  And then I watched some Frasier which makes my heart squee because I love that show so much.  Then I kicked it with the girls for a bit because We (dumbest name for a channel ever) was having a Golden Girls Marathon.

May 24th, 2009: Dinner: Snack Time

Somehow we missed an episode of Lost.  Either it taped and we deleted it for some reason, or it never taped.  We had to turn to the Internets and ABC to watch the show.  ABC doesn’t have their shows on Hulu which means while watching it via the ABC channel you have to watch commercials.  And if you are watching full screen, the commercials shrink down to small screen.  And then once the commercial is over, instead of just going back to the episode, you have to click play again. And the show was jumpy due to our laptop. :twitch:  But we did it and now only have to get through the 2 hour finale.  umph.  We’re trying to clean our our DVR now that we have more time for TV because there aren’t as many hockey games on.  While watching Lost there was this:

Drinkable

Drinkable

And it’s from the same bottle as Saturday evening! :p  We let it “breathe” and poured it through a little air thingy and the wine was fine.  Not great but fine.  Then I wanted food because I was hungry!

May 24th, 2009: Breakfast and lunch: And I go walking…

Hi gang!  How’s everyone’s weekend so far?  Mine is fabbo!  Last night Scott and I started the Pens game and he poured us some red wine.  I took about three sips and passed.  It was terrible!  And I’m not going to drink it just because, that’s a waste of calories and just a waste period. Why spend time drinking crap wine, ya dig?  So I bailed on it.  I also bailed on the Pens game.  I made it through the first period and had to call it quits by 9:30ish.  I headed up to bed to read and was asleep by 10:30! I understand how jealous you are of my rockin’ Saturday nights. ;)

I slept until close to 8am, oh yeah!  I got Rocky taken care of and poured myself a cup of coffee.

I checked in with the office and then headed into the TV room to chill.  I sipped coffee and flipped through the TV.  Then I plopped it on the Food Network and pulled out the laptop to work on some blog things.  Around 9:30ish, I headed out with Rocky for a nice mile+ walk.  I would have done more but he was ready for home since it was pretty humid out today.

Chipotle Glaze

Chipotle Glaze

Chipotle Glaze

This was another idea I came up with while working and thinking about what to make for dinner.  At least I’m a great multitasker!  Scott and I love fish and seafood.  Because it’s such a great protein source along with all the other goodies it contains, I try to make sure we get fish at least twice a week.  We were having salmon one night and I wanted a different way to serve it up.  I usually marinade the salmon in a teriyaki mixture because it takes to that flavor so well.  But this time I wanted something a little different.

Since I’ve been working on my heat tolerance level, I decided to try something new with the salmon by creating a sweet and spicy glaze.  Glazes aren’t something I really work with too much and I thought it was about time I changed that up.  I pulled out some chipotles and put together this really great tasting glaze.

May 23rd, 2009: Relax! Jump to it!

Hi gang!  Last night Scott and I busted out two episodes of Lost and hung out on the couch.  While watching TV both of us felt like a wee snack and decided on this:

Mmm creamy goodness

Mmm creamy goodness

Some chocolate frozen yogurt and chocolate sprinkles.  Mmmmm  After the shows, I headed up to bed for some much needed rest.

It was pleasantly cool this morning while I was out with Rocks for his morning constitutional.  I thought that maybe today wouldn’t be so hot, but Mo’ Nature would prove me wrong later.  I poured some coffee and headed into the office for a bit.

1 cup today

1 cup today

I read some blogs, checked mail and all that happy stuff.  Then I packed it up and headed into the TV room only to discover that FoodTV had nothing going on (Tyler and Aida don’t do it for me).  I switched over to HGTV and watched as a couple, who must have had a tremendous amount of money burning holes in their pockets, relandscape their 5 acre plot.  I walked away with knowing it took 23,000 gallons of water to fill their pool and they put down some super crazy amount of square footage in sod. :O

May 22nd, 2009: Dinner: Green all around

Hi gang!  Since we last spoke, I’ve done some laundry, found a cutie robe that I didn’t think I had anymore, and Scott mowed the lawn.  I plopped down on the couch for a sec and watched Giada make a sort of greenbean potato dish that was the inspiration of the side dish I made for dinner this evening.  Except mine is totally different and ended up not resembling Giada’s in anyway.  Love it!

Dinner tonight was so amazing I’m in food heaven with my food bellah-bump.

Pestotastic!

Pestotastic!

The main dish, was an open faced chicken sammie.  We haven’t had this in a long time and it was oh so wonderful today.  I made a spinach and sundried tomato pesto, light on the parm and spread that on some mini ciabatta rolls that I cut in half.  Layered on some leftover rotiserrie chicken I had in the freezer, topped that with some shredded mozzerella cheese and tossed in the oven at 400 for a few minutes till the cheese is all meltly bubbly.  Love!
