Tuesday Tip: Frozen fruit to keep drinks cold

I love fruit and have always loved fruit.  Thanks to some genius, we have the ability to buy frozen fruit which allows us to have access to fresh fruits all the time.  I love frozen fruit!  And frozen fruit isn’t just for smoothies you know.

One of my favorite ways to use frozen fruit is in drinks to help keep them cool.  Ice cubes can water down a drink.  Frozen fruit helps keep a drink cool, provides an additional taste, and can be eaten.  Ice cubes just melt away.  Fruit does not.

It’s also a great way to get in a fruit serving for the day.  It’s already in your glass and right in front of you, why not eat it?  And with frozen fruits we have the ability to use a wide variety.  There are so many options and choices out there.  One of the favorites at the HQ is frozen mango.  It gives a nice summery kick which comes in handy around January when you’re tired of looking at snow and dealing with cold.  For a second you can forget your woes and sip a fruity drink.

Try adding fruit to regular water to give it some flavor and punch.  It will keep you from getting bored with water and perhaps also keep you from reaching for an artificial sweetener or drink.  Yes fruit has sugar but so what?  It’s fruit.  Fruit is good for you and the sugar you get from fruit is naturally occurring sugar not something added by an outside source.  Only Mo’ Nature handled the sugar in fruit and I don’t think she’s out to sucker you into eating something that isn’t good for you.  Call it a hunch.

Reconsider frozen fruit the next time you’re at the store and see what you can get your hands on.  Add some to your drinks and see if you like the results! :D

The above drink is a Cranberry Fizzie:

  • 1 part cranberry juice (100% juice no sugar added)
  • 1 part seltzer
  • Frozen blueberries
  • Frozen pineapple

What is seltzer? I’m assuming it’s not club soda. Do you buy it in bottles? ha can you tell I’m confused? ;)

You would like where I work – big freezer full of frozen fruit, sorbet, juice, etc. ;)
