April 7th, 2009: Breakfast and lunch

Hi lovlies!  Let me tell you that I don’t remember what I was doing but I do know that I didn’t sit down to relax for the night until 9pm. :O  I know I helped Scott with framing the poster I got him for xmas and I did some laundry stuff but that’s all I remember.  When we sat down, we finished the bonus features of The Life Aquatic.  I had these:

A glass of red + another small glass and a snack of yogurt, chocolate granola, and cranberries.  MMmmm I was snacky last night and that is the only thing I wanted.  I thought it might be too much or too heavy for that late but it turned out fine.  I gave in to my craving.  Oh and I had five dark chocolate chips. :D

It was rough getting up this morning, I just wanted to stay in bed.  It was gloomy dark out and I could hear the wind blowing.  Ugh!  I did not want to run in that.  I laid in bed for a bit but Rocky was pitching a fit so I got up and got him taken care of.  Oh it was so cold outside!  I grumbled to myself the entire time I was changing for my run.  I had to pull out my winter running pants again.  Grrr!

Technically I was supposed to do 5 miles today plus some sprint intervals.  Not happening.  I knew before going out that wasn’t happening.  It was just too cold and windy for me and I did not want to be out that long.  I did want to run though!  So I decided to run 3.5 miles at a quicker pace than my normal.  It turned out that I ran that close to a 10min mile pace.  I am not a speed demon like some of the foodie runners.  10min mile is very speedy for me!

All I kept thinking about was that I was almost done and could go home to oatbran, coffee, and my robe. :p  That got me through my run this morning.  As I was running it started snowing, so rest assured there was no changing my mind to stay out any longer once I started running. ;)  Lovely!

I got home and had a small glass of CS.  Then I took a long hot shower and donned my robe.  Goodness that felt amazing!  I decided to say “Eff this!” and make a berrylicious oatbran bowl today to bring some spring/summer on up in here.

Right at the end of cooking I added in some frozen raspberries and blueberries which turned the oatbran a sort of brownish/purplish color.  I topped it with crushed walnuts.  And had some coffee on the side.  Delish!  And then I had a bit more coffee. :D

After a bit I took Rocky out for his walk.  It was colder!!  Thank goodness I didn’t decide to wait to run this morning.  Not only was it colder, it was snowing harder and the snow was sticking. :twitch:  I busted out his walk quickly because I was freezing.  Then it was home to lunch and all I wanted was something warm.  Sorry salad but you are just too cold for today!

I had some vegetable barley soup and I added in two spoonfuls of last night’s spicy chicken soup to provide some extra kick and flavor.  It worked, the soup was spicy and so good!  I also added in some broccoli for extra veg. How come we don’t see more broccoli in canned soups other than cream of broccoli? Does it not maintain freshness very well?   In the middle is some cantaloupe, cucumber, carrots, celery with some not Sabra hummus.

Now I’m scrambling and trying to get some work done. I’ve got several things going that need my attention and it’s making me a little boggy in the head.

  1. You know, I’ve often wondered the same thing about broccoli. It’s one of our healthiest veggies, yet in soup form (always “cream of”), it’s one of the least healthy options.
