April 1st, 2009: Breakfast and Lunch (Happy Birthday Becky!)

Hi guys!  I’m having a pretty fabbo day despite the fact I’m exhausted.  I’m tired and my body is pooped because I ran today.  I swapped my Thursday and Wednesday schedules.  Running, adding in pickups and then having conditioning class later on Thursdays was just too much for my legs.  Instead I decided to run that on Wednesdays and have Thursdays be my rest/conditioning days.

Unfortunately I got a late start this morning.  I was sleepy and stayed in bed till 7:30.  I took care of Rocky and was out the door for my run.  I was feeling better and determined to bust it out.  It was cool but warm enough I didn’t need my hoodie.  I ran my 5miles and then ran down to the local middle school’s track for my pickups which I had to do 6 today.  That translates into an added 1.5 miles to my running total for today.  I did my pickups and was very pleased with them.  I also added in some sprints here and there during my 5 mile run.  The basic definition of pickups is:

Walking for a few minutes increasing your speed until you are running and “breathing hard”.  Hold that for 10-20 meters and then slow back down to a walking pace.

I increase my speed until I am sprinting as hard and fast as I can go.  I make these my more intense and supa fast sprints.  My other sprints I do are just increasing my pace a little bit during my run and holding that for however long the schedule says.  Today was 4 of them for 1:30.  I did that but am starting to love the pickups a little bit more.  They are at the end of the run and it’s when I can go really fast and hard.  I used to hate pickups because I felt silly doing them.  Walking and picking up speed till I was running felt weird.  Now I’m okay with it. :)

Once back home I had some CS and did some stretches.  Woke up my Scotty-loves and then hit the shower.  After my shower, I threw on my robe and headed downstairs to make some breakfast.  Today was oats!

Standard oats and a little bit more umph with the mix-ins.

  • 3/4 C vanilla soymilk
  • 1/2 C oats
  • 1 huge mashed banana
  • Pinch salt and cinnamon
  • Scoop vanilla protein powder
  • 1TBSP of ground flax

Mix-ins were crushed walnuts, crushed banana chips, cranberries, and a small scoop of dark chocolate PB.  With coffee goodness.  And I only had one mug of it today, go me!  I ate breakfast and did some bloggity stuff.  Then it was out the door with Rocky for a walk.  Today is beautiful but still a bit chilly.  Well the wind is chilly, otherwise it would be perfect.

Back home and some chores taken care of, then it was time for lunch.  The oats held both Scott and I over really well and we weren’t super hungry for lunch.  I decided on some light salads.

  • Romaine
  • Spinach
  • Sunflower and pumpkin seeds
  • Cranberries
  • Blueberry granola
  • Chopped carrot
  • Chopped cucumber
  • Sprinkle of sharp cheddar

Drizzled with a bit of balsamic, honey, and oil.  YUM!  In the middle was some orange slices.  Seriously this lunch was perfect and hit the spot.  Now I’m about to get started on some more things around the house and then I’ll be off to hit the grocery store!

Today is Becky’s birthday!!  Wooottt!  Stop on over and say hi!
