March 23rd, 2009: Dinner

Hi gang!  I know it’s been ages since we’ve chatted. ;)  Crazy Monday on this end.  This week looks to be a busy one, I’m hoping I can hold it together. :p  Update on my check, my invoice got overlooked.  Good thing I asked!

Dinner tonight was something we haven’t had in a while, lentil tacos!  And this time I wrote down what I did so look for it soon. :)  Scott was hungry as I prepped dinner so I set out some chips and salsa for him.

Of course I had one!  You cannot put chips and salsa in front of me and not expect me to eat.  I only had 2 chips + salsa.  I have come to the conclusion that I don’t like white corn tortilla chips as much as yellow or blue.  These were 365 brand and just sort of icky.  Sorry 365!

March 23rd, 2009: Breakfast and lunch

Hi guys!  Happy Monday to you all! :)  Let’s not groan, it’s almost over (for us on EST anyway)!  I hope you’re having a good one.  Mine has been productive.  It’s productive in a sort of sporadic hurryhurryhurry!! kind of way.  I have no idea if that makes any sense but that’s how it seems.  I’m getting a lot done even though it doesn’t really feel like I am.  But let’s talk eats!  Oh starting with last night’s decadence.

glass 1

glass 1

First there was a glass of wine.

Mmmm chocolate

Mmmm chocolate

Then there was a second glass with some dark chocolate torte.  YUM!  Scott was the one who actually suggested that maybe we pull a slice out for a snack. :p  We split that to a point, I let Scott have more.  We watched House Hunters, My First Place, and Property Virgins while sipping and snacking.  I have to say the couple on My First Place last night were a bit, um, unrealistic.  They were looking for their “first and last” home.  First home and their last home because they wanted it to be their forever home and only home.  I understand buying a home that you can raise a family in, if that’s your goal.  But your only home ever?  Be serious.  Your kids are going to grow up and move out (I hope!) and you are going to get older. Not many seniors can take care of a huge 4000 sq. ft. house and the property it sits on.  They downsize which is a normal process.  To say you never will and this is the house you’re going to die in, is well a little naive and unrealistic.  And weird.  There I said it.

March 22nd, 2009: Dinner

Hi guys!  Still feeling awesome and I’m so happy about it, it’s almost silly. :D  This afternoon passed in a whirlwind of taxes.  I had to help Scott for a bit as I looked over my income for 2008.  After that we played some Lego Batman.  Hooray for weekends where we just hole up and chill out!  Next weekend will be all work around the house so I’m glad we had this time to just hang.  Scott poured us some Wildberry Italian soda from Target and I only had a few sips before I passed my portion over to him.  Ick!  It was very fake sweet tasting as if an artifical sweetner was used.  It also left a very nasty aftertaste on my tongue.  Ewww.  I had a cran-raspberry selzter instead.

We gamed for a bit and then I started supper prep.  Decided on light and easy today.  Roasted veggies and fish!  And rice for Scott. ;)

March 22nd, 2009: Breakfast and lunch

Hi guys!  Wow what a different a day can make!  My day of taking it easy, light foods, and emergen-C has paid off.  Today I am back to my old ornery self. ;)

I got up this morning just past 7am and was ready to tackle my newest long run.  Hell yes I was running today.  Being off on Friday and missing MT yesterday made me long for some exercise.  I followed Tina’s rule of working out when sick (the rhyming is all mine baby):

If it’s above the neck, you’re good to go.

Below the neck, rest and take it slow.

Since my issues were mostly a sore throat, I decided that I can most definitely knock out a run.  Hello 7miles!  I had the now norm 1/2 Zbar and was out the door.  It was chilly this morning but I still wore my capris because I love them and could not bear the thought of putting on heavier pants.  I did a lovely easy run today at a nice pace.  I felt awesome and now know that I for sure am taking two days off running before my 1/2.  I knocked out the first 3.5 no problem, it was going back around for the second 3.5 where I started slowing a bit.  It was all mental and I fully realized this and made myself get over it.  Which I did.  I told myself that I could have run the full 13.1 today if I had a chance.  It would have been slow for sure, and there would have been a walk break or two, but I could have done it.  And that got me through the 7 miles today (in 1:17 , not bad).

Saturday, March 21st, 2009

Hi guys!  Sorry I didn’t post yesterday.  I was feeling a bit yucky, so I sort of just hung out yesterday taking it easy.  Here’s a recap!

I woke up to my throat super sore and very hard to swallow.  I also felt a bit stuffy, had lots of drainage (ew, TMI?), and just felt not 100%.  I took care of Rocky, drank some more emergen-C and went back to lay in bed for a while.  MT class yesterday morning was not an option.  *grumble*

I rolled back out of bed just a bit after 9am.  I poured some human fuel and headed into the office to get some work done.  I had loads of people I needed to email back, packages to get ready, recaps to write, and pictures to review.  After a bit I finally decided to make some breakfast.  Something light but packed with a healthy punch.

March 20th, 2009: Dinner (Review: Hunan Lion)

Hi guys!  Sorry no post last night, I was feeling a bit under the weather and could not bring myself to type out a full recap.  We ended up going out to dinner last night.  I felt like going out with Scott and having a nice nite instead of staying home.  Before we left, I had an afternoon snack because I was starving!

snacky-poo

snacky-poo

A slice of multi-grain bread with food of the gods, vanilla almond butter on top.  And three apricots on the side plus I had one before taking the picture.  Rocky also would like you to know that he had an apricot as well.  A little while later it was dinner time!  Originally I wanted some sort of pub/bar style restaurant and was chatting with a local via Twitter about options.  He recommended a place that Scott and I have been wanting to check out for a while but haven’t made it up that way yet.  However we will soon because it’s a brewery (although a chain) and I would like to try some of their beers.

March 20th, 2009: Breakfast and lunch (Happy Spring!)

Spring is here and showed up with 20F degrees in its luggage this morning.  I said it could stay only for a day if that’s its agenda because I’m not putting up with it any longer.  We’ll see what happens tomorrow.  There may be a call placed to Summer.

Last night I decided that I would sleep in today and see how my legs felt in the morning.  I slept in till 8am!  And while I would love to say my rest was glorious, it was not.  Peaceful sleep was foiled by an active husband.  And by active, I mean snoring and rolling around like he was fighting off a bear.  It’s all good though, I know he won’t do it again tonight. :eyebrow:

I chilled this morning and pretty much decided I shouldn’t run.  Oh I wanted to run it is a beautiful day!  But I know my legs just need a rest.  When I headed outside for Rocky’s morning constitutional, I was greeted by frickin’ cold weather.  No seriously, it was in the 20s and windy.  Crazy!  The thought of layering up for a run was not appealing so it sort of reinforced my decision for a rest day.  I came back in and had some coffee.

March 19th, 2009: Dinner (3 attempts, 1 success)

I did not forget about you guys yesterday. :)  The end of the day was another cooking catastrophe for me.  Lord.  First I made some pizza dough and it was not right.  Very sticky gloppy starchy mess.  Just very wrong.  I dumped it.  I decided to just use WF dough instead.  Went to my freezer to find that I had no WF dough balls left.

Damn.

Headed back upstairs for round two of pizza dough making.  This turned out better but it did seem to be like a small brick.  I dumped it in a bowl and kept an eye on it as I cleaned up the kitchen.  It was rising so I decided to let it do it’s thing.  I fed Rocky dinner and then sat down to some yogurt.  Finally!  I was hungry and very much wanted my yogurt fix.

hooray, yogurt!

hooray, yogurt!

A bit of 2% with some mango agave almond bear naked on top.  Then it was off to conditioning class!  Which totally kicked my butt hardcore.  I’m thinking that I’m going to have to switch my Thursday and Wednesday schedules.  Because Thursdays are pickups which means I’m running full blast for a bit of distance.  But then adding in conditioning later in the day seems to take my legs over the edge.  For instance last night we had to do sprints and that means running full blast across the gym.  Well my thighs basically told me to stuff it as I was trying to run the sprints. And then all the lunges, squats and everything else we do, I think it might be too much in one day for my legs.

Why I run

I always knew that in order for me to drop any weight I was going to have to run.  I’ve always wanted to be a runner ever since I can remember.  But dang running is HARD.  I had no clue how people could just run for miles like it was no big deal.  Marathon runners, wha the what?! Half marathons even, that’s long.  How do you even get to that point?  Because seriously, I would try and totally gas out in like two minutes.  I had so many attempts at trying to run under my belt it was ridiculous.

Three years ago, 2006, I decided to get serious about running.  I needed to drop weight and I knew that was going to help me.  I bought shoes and had a running plan created for me.  Scott was even running with me at this time.  We would get up in the mornings, drive over to a local trail, and run.  I learned that running takes time and practice just like everything else.  You start off running for a few minutes, then walking, and then running again.  After a month of doing this, I was able to run for an entire mile.  It was slow but I was doing it.

March 19th, 2009: Breakfast and lunch

Hi guys!  Post a littler later today due to Scott having a conference call during our regular lunch/cleanup time.

Last night we got back from SF class late, going on 10pm.  I was very thirsty and starving.  I had some seltzer while munching on…

toasty goodness

toasty goodness

a toasted WW pita topped with vanilla almond butter which is a gift from the gods.  Good lord I love this stuff.  In fact, I don’t even remember the last time I had dark chocolate PB that’s how much this stuff has taken over! :o  I know!  After my snack, I read in bed for a bit and then it was lights out by 11:30. I was wiped!

I got up a bit earlier this morning to see if it was light out and it was, so I dragged my butt out of bed at 7:15.  Took care of Rocky and then headed up to change into running clothes.  Rocky for some odd reason thought we were going back to bed and followed me upstairs.  He looked so dejected when he realized the bedroom door was closed.  Sorry kid, papa is sleeping!  You’ve got sofa city duty!
