March 27th, 2009: Dinner

Hi guys!  I know my dinner posts are usually really quick, but last night we weren’t done with dinner till after 9pm, so I just kept hanging out on the couch. :D

Throughout the afternoon I kept picking at this bowl.

pick a little

pick a little

It has one of those nut mix pouches that Rose sent me, extra peanuts, and some rice snacks that Cheaplander sent me.  I couldn’t stop with the rice snacks, they were so good!

Finally it was time to make some dinner, and to make up for yesterday it was pizza!!

Wooo!  Veggie style.  Under the cheese is:

  • Shredded carrot
  • Shredded zucchini
  • Chopped artichokes

On top of the cheese is:

  • Green peppers
  • Red onion
  • Banana peppers

And Scott’s side had mushrooms.  Then I drizzled a little buffalo sauce over everything. :)  The crust is WF crust.  And I proceeded to drink a liter of seltzer yesterday. :o  Cherry flavor.

March 27th, 2009: Breakfast and lunch

Hi guys!!  Having a fantastic but busy day today.  Last night was very indulgent!

dark chocolate all around

dark chocolate all around

While watching Spellbound (Hitchcock, 1945) we snacked on a new beer and some of the dark chocolate panettone.  The beer was a dark chocolate stout.  Oh goodness it was awesome!  That’s actually beer #2 that we split.  YUM!!!  But I totally paid for that indulgence because it dried my throat out like crazy.  My throat was so dry last night that it woke me up. :(  Oh well, life happens, not much I can do about it now.

So my sleep wasn’t awesome which caused me to stop and figure out what I was going to do about a run.  It was slightly cool outside and it was foggy!  I loovveeeee foggy mornings, especially if I get to be out in the fog!  I remembered how great a run made me feel on Wednesday so I changed and was out the door.

Thursday, March 26th, 2009

Hi guys!  Sorry about no posts today!  I had a long sort of whirlwind day and didn’t have a chance to sit down and post.  I got to bed late last night so getting up early this morning and hitting a run was out.  Plus I was getting my hair cut today and I don’t like going in there with a sweaty gross head (they wash my hair so why wash it before hand?  Double wash pulls too much out of my hair).  It turned out okay because it was raining all morning long!

Mornings and nights with this cold tend to be my crappy times.  After I’ve been up for a bit then I feel loads better but first thing, ugh.  Rocky let me sleep in till 8am this morning.  Wooo!!  I took care of him and hit some coffee.  Which I apparently didn’t get a pic of!

I worked on my recap post while I sipped my coffee.  Also took care of some emails and basic office things, you all know how it goes. :D  I got Scott up and then had some breakfast.

March 25th, 2009: Dinner (And KODO Recap)

Hi guys!  Last night ended up being a late one. :O  By the time we were sitting on the couch in our jammies it was 11pm.  That’s a late night for us old farts.  But first, eats!

Not that I was hungry but I just wanted some, I had a bit of yogurt with some granola.

comfort

Love yogurt + granola.  Mmmm It helps my soul, I swear it!  Then I blew off work and stuff to read in bed for a bit.  I turned on the heating blanket and just chilled for about an hour or so.  Thanks to Andrea for the Overstock suggestion!  I totally forgot about them and I saw some desks that interest me, so yay!

Dinner was simple.  I pulled out some veggie shepherd’s pie for Scott and heated that up.  I wasn’t feeling it though; seemed a little too heavy.  Plus we were going to a show and high class civilized people eat things like truffles and goat cheese before their show.  I don’t have truffles and I don’t think I would eat some if I did (of course referring to the fungus and not the chocolate) but I do have goat cheese!  So I went that route.

Off to see Kodo!!

Hi lovlies!  Tonight is date night and for my birthday, Scott bought us tickets to see Kodo!  They are playing downtown tonight.  Kodo is a Japanese Taiko drum group.  If you watch Battlestar Galatica, the open theme music is taiko drums. :D

I’m acting like the highly civilized person that I am, and am having a pre-show drink.  No worries, it’s just a fizzie.  Full recap tomorrow!  Later gators!

March 25th, 2009: Breakfast and lunch

Hi guys!  Last night Scott and I chilled on the couch for a bit watching the last period of a Pens game.  I wanted something salty so I made some popcorn.  If I would have had chips, I would have eaten those! :D

salty goodness

With a cranberry fizzie.  I only had a few handfuls of popcorn and then I was done.  Once the game was over I headed up to bed to read for a bit.  I was wiped out!  I complained to Scott that I wished I wasn’t sick so I could stay up longer and read. :p  I knew I needed sleep so I called lights out early.

Getting up this morning was a pain.  Ugh.  I tried sleeping in especially since it was pouring rain, but I got all sneezy and couldn’t get comfortable so I got up.  I took care of Rocks who was not having anything to do with the rain outside and then I poured myself some coffee.

Review: Yves Meatless Pepperoni

Yves Meatless Pepperoni

Yves Meatless Pepperoni

Guys don’t even ask me what I was thinking when I bought this product.  Usually, I try to stay away from imitation meat products.  Yes, I’ll eat a Morningstar or Boca something-or-other every so often but it’s not a huge part of my diet.  So why I picked up these meatless pepperoni slices is beyond me.

Maybe I was looking for a healthier version of pepperoni because let’s face it, pepperoni is some scary shit.  Tasty with just the right amount of spice and kick, but damn scary.

Side tangent, did anyone else grow up eating hot pepperoni sandwiches? Sandwich pepperoni (or little rounds if that’s all you got), some cheese, on a bun, wrapped in foil and heated in the oven till melty warm.  It’s mighty fine eats.  As long as you don’t think too hard about what makes up that pepperoni. ;)

Anyway, back to the review!  I tried reading the ingredient list but that ended up being a crazy long tale that didn’t seem to have a plot so I left it alone.  Plus it made me realize how much processing and manipulation it takes to get something that is not meat to resemble meat and that made me nervous.  Wait. Isn’t that same thing for regular pepperoni as well?

March 24th, 2009: Dinner

Hi guys!  I had to pass on MT class (again! grr!) this evening.  If I couldn’t even run this morning, doubtful I’m going to be able to get through a class of punching and kicking.  I was so hungry this afternoon I was craving everything for dinner!  I decided to munch on some PB granola by bear naked, to ease my hunger a bit while Scott and I looked at roof tiles.

Guys, picking roof tiles is a pain in the butt.  You’re staring at your house and staring at roof tiles going, “Well that could match.  Or that one, maybe?”  And the thing is, you only get one tile to look at which naturally once it covers an entire house and the sun is on it, will not look the same.  They should give you bigger swatches to look at.  Honestly.  It’s like being blindfolded and tossing a dart, hoping you hit something good.  We picked one and I’ll let you know how it turns out.

March 24th, 2009: Breakfast and lunch

Hi guys!  I did cut Scott’s hair last night but unfortunately that was all that got accomplished.  By the time he was done cleaning up and showering, it was after 9pm.  Boo!  Too late for a meeting.  Not to late for drinks though. ;)

good combo

good combo

I was battling some girlie pains (sorry fellas but you’ll deal) and was in need of some chocolate.  There was a bit of wine left from Sunday so I split that into two small glasses to make it stretch.  I had two prunes (um, to help battle the chocolate) and two choclate squares.  That’s right, livin’ large! A 60% and a peppermint bark square.  I ate them both!  I much prefer munching on dark chocolate chips.  They take me longer to eat and I don’t eat much of them.  The squares are too easy for me to inhale quickly.  We watched a bit of a Pens game and then it was off to bed for me at 10:30.  I was pooped.

Tuesday Tip: On Flax seeds

Whole Flax Seeds

Whole Flax Seeds

Flax is a recent addition to my diet even though I’ve been giving Rocky flax seed oil for years.  He gets it with his veggie meals to provide him with essential fatty acids.  It also helps keep his coat clean and shiny and prevents his skin from drying out.  Funny how I’ll do all these healthy things for him without even thinking, “Oh hey, I could do that too!”.  Flax seeds are so good for you it borders on ridiculous.  It’s a new superfood that helps fight just about everything out there.  If you Google the benefits of flax seeds, you’ll have no problem finding loads of information.  I’ll give you some benefits just to get you started. ;)

Flax is a good source of the desired Omega-3 fatty acids that we need in our diets.  This helps fight cholesterol and heart disease.

Flax also contains Lignan, which is an antioxidant and we all need antioxidants in our lives because they help fight nasty free-radicals.  Medterms.com had the best definition of antioxidants:
