March 1st, 2009: Breakfast and lunch

Hi guys!  Last night Scott and I chilled on the couch watching some more Planet Earth (we’ve been renting the series from Netflix).  While chilling we each had a glass of red and some dark chocolate chips.

Ghirardelli  60% dark chocolate chips are my favorite things ever.  They are the perfect “dessert” for me.  It’s chocolate but not overly sweet chocolate.  And it’s easy to portion control with them, I just pour them in a little bowl and go on my way.  I probably had about 10 of them and that was plenty.  I was passing out and headed up to bed around 11ish last night.

I woke up at 7:30, thanks to a very anxious dog who felt the need to get the day started already. *groan*  I ran him outside and holy cow it was cold.  And damn windy.  Grrrr!  I am starting to loath this weather and it definitely didn’t make me want to get out and run.  I literally debated with myself for about 45 minutes if I was going to run or not.  I didn’t feel like running in the cold and wind.  I simply just didn’t want to go.

But I went.  I informed myself that I needed to get this run in especially since I didn’t run on Friday.  And it’s the first day of the month and I didn’t want to start off with an empty spot on my calendar.  I have these cheapy calendar on the fridge where after my runs, I record my stats.  If I don’t run on a day, I write down why.  But I didn’t want to start the month off with an entry that said, “lazy”.  So I ran.  Before heading out I had 1/2 a honey graham Z bar.

I tried a small piece of Pro Bar first but didn’t like it.  It had the same taste/consistency of a  larabar which I despise.  So I moved to the Z bar.

I did extra today and I’m hoping that it bumped me to over 5 miles.  I was glad to be home though!  And even though I was proud of myself and glad I ran, coming home was the best part. :p  I had some CS and did some yoga stretches and was ready to relax.

I poured a mug of coffee and sat down with a peach fage topped with a small bit of granola.  It wasn’t until I was taking the picture I realized this was total fage and not 2%.  Ack!  So I only had half the container and the rest I gave to Scott when he woke up.  I was so looking forward to coffee this morning but I must say it was a tad bitter.  I think it had been sitting in the pot too long.  Oh well, there’s always tomorrow.

Scott and I chatted about what to do for Sunday breakfast.  Neither of us wanted anything heavy but something on the light side.  I finally decided on a dish.

Egg in a hole for each of us.  Have you all seen these before?  You butter each side of a slice of bread and make a hole in the center.  Grill it in a skillet like you would a grilled cheese, except you add an egg to the hole and cook it that way.  We had those with falx and fiber bread, one each.  Plus the grilled hole.  Feel free to make jokes at will.  In the middle was a tangerine for Scott and a green pear for me.  And then I made us a smoothie.

  • 2 cups of orange juice
  • 1 medium carrot cubed into 1inch pieces
  • 1 medium kale leaf, stem removed
  • Frozen mango
  • 1 banana
  • Frozen pineapple

Blend, blend, blend until smooth and the carrot and kale are very tiny.  It made a green monster today.  It was so yummy!  The banana is a great sweetener and thickener.  It dominates and you don’t taste the carrot or kale at all.  Both Scott and I loved it and discussed having them start to appear in our diet more.  It’s a great way to get in fruit and veggie servings.  Although if I’m going to be making smoothies more often, perhaps it’s Vit-A mix time. ;)

Now I have to brave the cold one more time to walk Rocks then it’s back in my gnome jammies and hanging for the rest of the day!

  1. HAH..grilled hole. Just wondering about the total fage?? Is it blech b/c of the taste, or b/c you know it’s not the lower fat/cal version? I was contemplating trying it the other day. Also, rent/buy Blue Planet if you get a chance, it’s so amazing!

    • CarolineBee, it’s because of the fat content. The total, while creamy and amazing, does have a high fat count. That little container had 12g! Oh! So that’s why I only ate half of it. :D
