February 16th, 2009: Breakfast and lunch

Hi gang! Let me start off by telling you that I split TWO Cabin Fevers with Scott last night while we sat on the couch and watched TV. Do I feel guilty about it? Nope, they were fabbo and it was his birthday! He still had more than I did but they were oh so tasty and I was loving every minute of it.

I will also tell you that we split a sweet treat! His birthday dessert was a big honkin’ oatmeal cream pie that we bought from WF. I figured I would have a bite or two and be done with it. Sweets aren’t really my thing plus I assumed the cream in the middle would be way too sweet sugary for me. Well I was wrong and we split that cookie between us while sipping on the 2nd Cabin Fever. Whoa, definite indulgent night for me! But it’s all good. We watched two episodes of Planet Earth and then like an old lady, I headed up to bed at 10:30pm.

Feet on the Street: Caitlin

Caitlin

Caitlin

Hi guys!  Meet Caitlin of Healthy Tipping Point.  Caitlin is our first featured runner for this month’s installment of Feet on the Street, so let’s give her a nice warm welcome!  When I first started reading foodie blogs I stumbled upon Caitlin’s blog as she was getting ready for her dream wedding and I’ve been following her since then.  One of the things I loved about her blog was her enthusiasm for running.  Since I was (and still am!) very much a beginner and just starting my running journey, being able to see the miles she was logging gave me loads of inspiration to keep pushing myself.  I contacted her right away when I started putting this feature together.  Now let’s talk running and shoes!

1. When reading your blog, it doesn’t take long to realize that you are very passionate about running.  What inspired you to start running and how long have you been running?

February 15th, 2009: Scott’s Birthday!

Hi gang!  When last we left off, I was about to hit the couch.

dessert

Part of Scott’s birthday celebrations include dessert.  So while we watched some TV last night, we had some wine and these two macaroons.  The one on the left is blueberry lavender with dark chocolate filling.  The one on the right is pistachio.  I had the left and Scott had the right.  I also had two small bites of his but did not finish mine, maybe leaving 1/3 of it?  It was really yummy but all I tasted was the chocolate, no blueberry or lavender at all.  We got these from WF.  After watching some Planet Earth I headed up to bed for some sleep around 10:30.  I was pooped!

What a day today, started early and still going strong. :D  I woke up at 7:30 this morning and got right to business.  I got Rocky fed and taken care of, then it was out the door for my run.  And I ran, and ran, and ran!  First I had half a blueberry Clif bar.

Happy Birthday Scott!!!

It's my birthday punks

It's my birthday punks

:fiesta:  Hooray!!!  Today is my Scotty-love’s birthday!!  Yup that hunk of burning love right there was born on this day several moons ago.  In the spirit of Becky, I’m gonna list a whole bunch of stuff that makes my husband teh awesome.

He can raise one eyebrow, just like that, and crack me up every single time he does it.

We’ve been together for over 10 years and he still wants to stick around even though I can be crazy sometimes.

When we were in college, he would drive 7hours to my school every weekend to come visit me.

He handles all the creepies and buggies that make it into the house because he knows I cannot.

He lets me be me 100% and loves me for it.

He’s my little geek lover and has unleashed and nurtured my need for better and newer electronics. (Speaking of, when are we getting that new receiver?  I’m just sayin’.)

February 14th, 2009: Dinner

Hi guys!  Man we shopped till we dropped. :o  We only made it to one store, Kohl’s. We spent so much time in there that we didn’t feel like going anywhere else but back home. :p  I got some new workout clothes!  Woo!  Two pairs of stretchy pants that stop at the knee, for running.  And one of those is a small! (!!) Oh my!  Scott also got some loverly things and then we called it a day.

When we got home we were both a little hungry so I made us a small somethin’ to tide us over.

We had little spinach salads, and I mean little because those are my yogurt bowls.  That also had:

  • Sunflower and pumpkin seeds
  • Cranberries
  • Crushed crack squares
  • And for mine, some granola

Dressed with a little fig balsamic & oil.  Yum!  And perfectly sized little starter salads.  There was also a cheese plate with cheddar, swiss, parrano cheese, and apricots.  I had 1/2 slice of cheddar, 1/2 of swiss, and 1 small cube of parrano.

February 14th, 2009: Breakfast and lunch

Hi lovies!  We are having a fabbo day here at the HQ.  Morning started a little too early for me, before 7am (Thanks Rocks!) but that’s okay because I got a lot done.  I had some much needed coffee as I worked on last night’s dinner post.

wake-up call

That took me a while actually! :o  Then it was time for some breakfast.

Another yogurt mess!

  • 2% fage
  • Pumpkin
  • Vanilla protein powder
  • Ground flax
  • Cranberries
  • Bear naked banana nut
  • Maple syrup
  • Cinnamon

Sort of tasted like a creamy pumpkin pie pudding!  I also had another wee bit of coffee with breakfast.  While eating breakfast I got caught up on my reader!  Then Scott got up and we talked about our day.  We decided to take the day off from MT since it’s almost Scott’s birthday and do some things that need to get done.  Like grocery shopping (Lord help me handle the “crowd”).  But before we can head out for a afternoon of shopping, I made us some lunch.

February 13th, 2009: Dinner

I almost wore a skirt last night but then changed and dressed up a pair of dark jeans instead.  I was cold, it was chilly outside, and I didn’t want to risk being cold in the restaurant, so jeans it was!  With a smoking top introducing the girls and a pair of black boots.  Do any of you like this stuff or should I just bust right to the food? ;)   By the time Scott and I headed over to the restaurant, I was starving.  Close to hangry and the shakes but not quite there yet.

The hostess told us it would be about a 30minute wait and gave us this crazy pager.  It looked sort of like an old school taser and when it went off it talked to you!  Not just buzzing, but an additional, “Your table is now ready.  Your table is now ready.”  For the record, I hate when electronics talk to me, it creeps me right the hell out.

February 13th, 2009: Breakfast and lunch (ooo spooky scary!)

Hi guys!  Despite a crudtastic sleep last night I’m having a fabbo day!  Backtracking a bit:

yummy combo

yummy combo

I did indeed have a glass of wine and a piece of dark chocolate last night.  Mmmm it was 60% dark and was so yummy!  I also had another 1/2 glass of red while we rocked it on the couch watching Antiques Roadshow.  I only made it through half the show before having to head up to bed!  Before that though, I just remembered we did watch Lost.  This was like from 3 weeks ago because we’re very bad about keeping up with shows.  Anyway this episode was the one where they got taken hostage by Richard’s camp from 1954 and saw the hydrogen bomb?  Do you remember?  Well the hostages, Geek guy, Snotty Redhead, and the Asian dude (sorry can’t remember their names), were taken hostage and “tied” up and then left alone in a tent.  Okay I had to roll my eyes at this whole thing.  First of all their hands were bound in front of them.  If you’re going to take someone hostage and bind them so they can’t escape, you DO NOT tie their hands together in the front.  Common sense and Bauer 101 has taught me this.  Secondly, they were left alone in the tent like that.  Um, hello, escape much?  I would just walk over to my friend and say, “Hey, I’m just going to stand right here in front of you while you untie my hands.  And then we can free everyone else and get the crap outta there.”  Please.  Stuff like that bugs me in shows and movies when I see it.

New Feature: Feet on the Street

Feet on the Street Giveaway

Feet on the Street Giveaway

Welcome to OHC’s newest feature for 2009: Feet on the Street.  Bringing attention to what keeps us runners moving and grooving: our shoes! It seems like more people start thinking a little more seriously about running in the spring and summer months.  The weather starts getting warmer, the days longer, and that tends to make people want to be outside doing something!  Sure, running in the winter happens (I do it!) but most times it’s the warmer months that get us moving.  I started running in July and didn’t even think about running earlier than that.

One of the things that is very important to a runner is their shoes. First and foremost, one needs good shoes. No skimping! And I thought, who better to ask about shoes than those of us who run AND blog about it.  The blogsphere is huge and there are lots of lovelies out there willing to share tips and tricks on running.   Putting a feature together highlighting the different shoes we wear and why, I thought would be beneficial to people who might be starting out with a running program.  One can’t just wear any old shoe and hit the pavement.  Well you could but that could lead to injuries and we want to prevent that at all costs. Starting this month and going all the way to December, I’ll be highlighting a different blogger each month and we’ll be talking running and shoes!

February 12th, 2009: Dinner

Quick post because the office is a little chilly! :p  Before MT today, I had a wee bowl of yogurt.

2% fage, sprinkle of vanilla protein powder, sprinkle of ground flax, and some bear naked banana nut.  Yum!  The protein powder added a nice little sweetness to the yogurt along with a bonus protein punch.

MT conditioning rocked today and wore my butt out.  But I busted out 28 round kicks in 30seconds.  Oh yeah, I’m a rockstar!  After class it was home to Pizza Thursday!  I wasn’t originally planning on making pizza this week because I figured Scott needed a little extra something special for his b-day week.  But he said he wanted pizza, so pizza it was.  I did a little twist though. ;)

Love Thursdays...

While the pizzas were baking, we sipped on some red.  I started off with a small splash.
