February 20th, 2009: Dinner

Hi guys!  I promise to try not to make this a habit!  Last night after we were done with dinner it was 9:30. :o

I convinced Scott to go with me on Rocky’s walking thinking I would have a nice companion for the longish walk.  Not so much.  It was freaking cold outside and the wind was blowing, making for an unpleasant time leaving all of us just wanting to go home. :p  So the walk was a shorter one.  Then I chilled my brain and read for a bit.  Then the fun started!  A package had arrived Thursday that I forgot to mention.  On the sly, Scott ordered Lego Batman and it arrived on Thursday!  :swingdance:  So we started playing that and it’s just too cute.

We took a short break for a drink.  Cranberry+Limeade+Selzter Fizzie and some baked BBQ chips.  I didn’t even need this snack. I wasn’t hungry in the least, my mouth was just bored.  I had a few chips, five?  And then stopped myself.  Then it was back to playing.  My one frustration with Lego Batman is that you can’t get to everything in the level and it’s designed that way on purpose.  After winning a level, you unlock “freeplay” which will allow you to go back to that level at anytime and use any suit or gear that you’ve collected so far.  Which is clever and definitely makes the game more fun, more replayable, and interesting.  However it is killing my Type A personality of, “Must clear level entirely!”.  We played for a bit then it was time for dinner.  Junk food guys, I’m not even going to front.

February 20th, 2009: Breakfast and lunch

Hi guys! *taptap*  Is this thing on?  Or have you all disappeared? :p  Today has been sort of a happy/bummy day.  I slept in this morning so that was happy!  And there was no snow, so more happy!  Plus I made oats, happy happy!

Back to the R

Back to the R

Bananas still a little on the too ripe side but they did their job enough.  I added protein powder and some ground flax to the mix.  Topped with walnuts, cranberries, and some dark chocolate PB.  Most of my morning was spent doing the recap post from last night!  Man sometimes recap posts take ages to get through.  Anyone else notice that?

After posting I started cleaning the casa.  Then I mopped.  Have I ever mentioned how much I ate mopping?  Hate. It.  But now the house is clean and sparkly!  I ended up not running today.  Boo!  I got so behind this morning that my window for running was gone.  I’m very sad about this but trying not to dwell and just moving on.

February 19th, 2009: Dinner

Hi guys!  Sorry about not posting last night but I didn’t get back home till after 9pm. :o

Before heading out to Ladies’ Night, I had to eat some supper.  Ladies’ Night didn’t start till close to 7ish which is past dinner time for me and I didn’t want to walk in someplace hungry.  We had leftovers!

Hooray for veggie shepherd’s pie!  I realize that yesterday I forgot to mention the veggies and things in the pie.  Ready?  Okay, here we go:

  • Onion
  • Green pepper
  • Jalapeno pepper
  • Carrots
  • Corn
  • Peas
  • Green beans
  • Limas
  • Kidney beans
  • Lentils
  • Zucchini
  • Mushrooms for Scott

I think that’s it! :p  Much tastier the second day!

felt guilty

I arrived at the event and was parched!  Because I was trying to avoid having stale breath, I poured myself a drink.  My options were pop or mineral water.  I don’t care for mineral water, so sadly I had to go with a small glass of pop.  I picked Sprite because my thinking is, if I can see through it, it’s not as bad.  Totally flawed I realize but whatevs.  Coming from someone who used to be a Coke fiend, the thought of drinking that now makes me cringe.  I don’t even remember the last time I had pop because I stopped drinking it a while ago.  However, new lesson learned for me last night!  ALWAYS bring backup water with you.  Make sure your purse is big enough to carry a bottle, even if it’s just a small 8oz thing.  Which I should have realized last night because all of my “everyday” purses have a water bottle holder in them. It’s one of the first things I look for!  Anyway, that was my first little indulgence.

February 19th, 2009: Breakfast and lunch

Hiya guys!!  I’ve finished my projects early.  YaY me!

Last night Scott and I chilled on the couch where I had two small glasses of red. :o Oh my.  I also had about 6 spicy cheeze-its.  I thought I was hungry and then realized that maybe I just need some water.  I drank a large glass and was content, so that was it!  And I put the cheeze-its away, which is why there’s no pic.  We watched some TV and then around 9ish I headed up to bed to read for a bit.  By 10pm it was lights out to a very windy night.

My alarm went off at 6am because I thought I might try and run today.  I heard the wind outside and realized that running probably wasn’t in my future.  Turned off the alarm and got snug.  Then my logical side got the best of me, and kindly reminded me that I could get work done early and be finished to have the day for whatever.  I decided to go with that plan.

February 18th, 2009

Hi lovies!  Sorry for this being so late but for the next few days I’ll probably be doing one long post for the day.  I had a project come in that needs some attention and focus, so that’s where my mind is at.

new beer

new beer

Ooo we tried a new beer last night!  A boch and this is a first for both of us.  It was the 1888 Boch by Leinenkugel (dags on that name though! It’s even bigger than mine!).  And I had some malt balls, only two because I was a good A last night.  The beer was so yummy!  We watched another period of a Pens game and then around 9ish I headed up to bed to read.  I read for 45 minutes and called it a night.  Wooo!

Since I wasn’t running this morning, I tried to sleep in a bit.  I slept till after 7am which is a good 9 hours of sleep.  Awesome!  Came downstairs and saw that it had rained overnight.  Figures since Scott just put the paper and cardboard out to be recycled. :p

Review: Samuel Adams Honey Porter

Honey Porter

Honey Porter

Back when I was in college is when I first came in contact with beer and thus started my journey sampling brews.  Even in college with little money, I tried to stick with good quality beers.  There was no Beast or Coors or Bud to be had.

My friends started talking to me about Sam Adams Cherry Wheat beer and how awesome it was.  “It’s fruity, like juice!” They said.  Interesting, I thought.  I saved my pennies, because even though I was drinking “the good” beer, Sam Adams was still expensive and beyond my budget.  Once I saved enough, my friends and I trekked to the campus pizza shop for a slice and brew.  I bought a cherry wheat.  “Here’s to fruit juice!” and then I took a sip.  Which I promptly gagged on and gave the remaining beer away as quickly as possible.  That was my first encounter with a wheat beer and it was not a good one.

February 17th, 2009: Lunch and dinner

Hi guys!  Don’t worry, I’m almost over myself.  Some couch time and some reading time will put me back in the right mind space. :D  After my breakfast “oh woe is me” post, I ran Rocky out for a short walk.  I thought I could get away with a longer walk if I walked slowly but no dice.  My foot started aching and it was really cold and windy outside!  So I cut the walk short and we headed back home.

Once home I did some bloggy stuff, put away laundry, and did some worky stuff.  Then it was time to make lunch!  I wanted something yummy and comforting.  Grilled cheese and soup it was!

My grilled cheese was using a sandwich thin and it has spinach, tomato slices, and some swiss.  On the side is Amy’s tomato soup that I spiced up just a bit with garlic powder, Italian seasoning, and buffalo sauce.  That’s my race mug!  Only half of that mug is full of soup.  In the middle was a leftover apple from my snack, an orange, and the leftover zucchini sticks.  I only had about 1/2 of everything again, although no apple. (I realize my mug is all sloppy, please just ignore it.  Thx!)

February 17th, 2009: Breakfast

Hi guys!  I’m having a bummer of a day, you’ll see why in a sec.

Last night the new pants worked out great and will be good placeholders till I can get some appropriate BDUs.  Scott’s are camo (since they are military issued) and I need either solid black or green for class.  Our instructor isn’t going to tell us we can’t wear camo but it’s not the preferred color, follow?  Anyway, last night during training we were working on some take down moves where the person defending drops down to one knee and does some stuff to the other person’s legs.  Yes super basic description because otherwise I would be here all day trying to explain it to you and I don’t feel like making a photo presentation of it.  In reality, the goal is to drop down and smash your knee on to the other person’s foot resulting in pain and distraction for that person.  However, for training purposes you kinda want to avoid actually dropping on the foot because 1. it flipping hurts and 2. injuring training partners kinda makes them not want to train with you anymore.  To shorten this up because it’s way too long already, Scott and his 160lb self dropped on my foot instead of next to it.  It hurt like a mothereffer.

Tuesday Tip: Using Stainless steel or ceramic pet bowls

I'm sleeping

I'm sleeping

We all love our pets right?  And want to do the best of the best for them.  For me, that includes providing a safe and pet friendly environment.  One of the things I have learned during momhood is that stainless steel or ceramic pet bowls are better and healthier for pets (dogs and cats, and all animals who feed out of dishes and bowls.)

When we first adopted Rocky, I had plastic pet bowls for him.  A sturdy non-slip food bowl and a plastic water bowl.  Rocky has a white muzzle and I noticed that the white part was always red and swollen.  It didn’t seem to bother him, but it did look irritated.  I could not figure out what could be causing this and why he would have such a strong reaction.  I started doing a little investigating and researching online (Thank the Gods for the internet, right?) and what I found out sort of shocked me at first.  That his pet bowls could be causing this reaction because of the plastic.

February 16th, 2009: Dinner

Hi guys! Dinner was fabbo tonight!  Scott was having leftovers so that left me on my own for whatev.  And all I wanted were veggies!

salad time

I had a jumbo salad with:

  • Romaine
  • Spinach
  • Chopped grape tomatoes
  • Corn
  • Pumpkin and sunflower seeds
  • Chopped Banana peppers
  • Chopped green pepper
  • Chopped carrot
  • Chopped up Morningstar chik’n patty

Dressed with ranch dressing I made with the 2% Fage.  I almost put some cheddar on the salad as well but figured I was getting enough fat from the dressing so I left it off.

On the side was more zucchini buffalo strips and some green beans.  I ate all my salad and zucchini but left most of the green beans.  I was full and content.  Now it’s time to put laundry away and get in a little bit of reading before SF class tonight.

Our uniforms for SF class are BDU pants and whatever shirt, preferably a school or camp shirt.  All my BDUs do not fit me anymore so I’m trying out a new pair today.  A pair I found as I was cleaning out closets that used to be Scott’s when he was in the army.  He was issued these pants when he was 16 and I’m going to try wearing them tonight.  Oh my. :o  We’ll see how it goes!
