February 28th, 2009: Lunch and dinner

Hi guys!  Thanks for all the responses about my running goals!  I’m still thinking about it but leaning towards just going balls in and doing them. :D

After MT today we ran to another local Big Bird to pick up some fage and they were out!  I’m starting to think it’s some sort of consipiracy.  I did pick up a few other things though so the trip wasn’t a waste.  We came back and had lunch.

I took some leftover chicken from the Mexican dish and added it to some spinach, chopped carrot, and some mixed greens.  There’s also peas and some sesame sticks added in as well.  It was good but nothing to write home about.  On the side was a bean salad I picked up at Big Bird which was really good and very sweet.  Even though it was yummy, the sweetness has me concerned on how much sugar was used.  I’ll finish up the leftovers and then probably will stick with making my own.  I’ll talk about the POM tea drink tomorrow! I only had half that bottle.

After lunch we took Rocky out into the blustery cold for a quick walk.  We talked about our Mexican feast and how we felt about it.  Neither one of us felt good about eating it.  It was good food but didn’t leave us feeling good afterwards, either mentally or physically.  I was bloated and felt loaded down.  Crossing the line of TMI, it seemed like both of our bodies were trying to expel the food and get rid of everything we ate.  Like the result of a sort of detox.  Which is interesting because that never happened to us before.  It must be a result of how well we are eating now that our bodies recognize whole foods and reject anything that doesn’t seem to fit that standard.  Both of us decided we need to stay away from the Mexican and if we want it, make it our selves.  Or perhaps expand our tastes and try something a little more higher end(?).

When we got back home I made us a monster smoothie.  I was still feeling a little empty and not satisfied from my lunch, plus the only fruit I had so far was a 1/2 a banana.  I needed more.

I know it doesn’t look pretty but it was awesome.

  • Cranberry juice
  • Orange juice
  • Frozen mango
  • Frozen peaches
  • 1 banana
  • 1 kale leaf, stem removed
  • 1 small carrot

Blended until very smooth.  This smoothie was awesome.  No bitterness at all from the kale which surprised me.  We drank our smoothies while playing some Lego Batman.  I can’t even tell you how much more centered my body felt after drinking this.  It was seriously amazing.  I felt “right” and “clean”.  I don’t even know if that makes any sense but it’s the best that I can do in terms of description.  It felt like the bad Mexican food was erased and my body was on back on its way to being clean again.  Centered is the word I keep coming back to.

We played some more and I had a small POM fizzie.  No picture because the battery to my camera was being charged.  I also nibbled on a slice of cheddar and a slice of swiss.  Both small slices.  And a new cracker by Doctor Cracker (hilarious!).  Cheddar and pumpkin seed.

It’s a big cracker that Scott and I split.  Then it was time for some dinner.  Seafood!

Shrimp and scallops with frozen vegetable medley. :p  It was green beans, limas, and corn that I heated up in some chicken broth seasoned with S&P, garlic powder, and some buffalo sauce.  There was homemade cocktail sauce for dipping the shrimp in.  I had 1.5 scallops and 5 shrimp.  Also a piece of whole grain bread with a bit of butter.

Then I went in for another slice of bread, this one very small.  I had selzter with dinner.

Now I plan on hanging with my boys and watching some TV.   I’m craving an old movie but I don’t think there’s anything on.

ZOMG!! Are you serious for reals?!!

  1. totally makes sense :D! I hate that gross feeling after non-“whole foods”, for me it’s usually from oils and stuff that I don’t use in my meals! I have to think when I go out to eat if the discomfort will be worth it, cuz sometimes it is ya know! You make such great looking meals, I’m SURE you can whip up some mexican!

  2. I admit I didn’t look at the time frame of those running plans so maybe the half in two months is achievable – considering you aren’t starting from scratch. :D
