Yesterday my alarm went off at 6am and I took a quick look outside to see what kind of damage we sustained.  It had been freezing rain all night.  When I looked, everything was covered in ice and all shiney.  Well hell, I’m going back to bed.  I can’t run until it gets much warmer outside so I might as well get some extra sleep.

I got up around 7:30.  As I was feeding Rocky, the lights flickered and then went out.  Piss.  I got Rocky taken care of then I came back inside and woke Scott up.  He needs his two cups of coffee or else he gets a very serious headache.  I figured he should get up and have coffee while it was still hot.  After I got him up and coffeed, I set to work packing coolers.  I packed them with things I for sure didn’t want to spoil in the fridges.  Mostly the soymilks, yogurts, and creamers.  One cooler had unopened things and the other cooler had already open containers.  Then I plopped those babies outside to stay cold.

After that I finally had my coffee and some breakfast.

Yogurt + granola + 1 crumbled Quaker True Delights Raspberry Chocolate bar, so I could finish up a tub of fage.  As I was eating breakfast, the snow came.  Hard and fast, visibility was reduced to almost nothing.  It was like a blizzard of sorts.  We breifly discussed shoveling but both of us are of the mind set to shovel when it’s all said and done instead of going out multiple times.  So we watched the snow for a bit.  Then the power came back.  Then it was off again.  By this time I needed a small snack so I had an orange.

Then the power came back.  And then it was gone.  Pretty much the rest of the day consisted of the power coming on for about 1/2 an hour and then going out again for however long.  Can’t really get much work done when that happens.  And it’s not so good for the computers to go though that kind of power surging.  Instead we started putting away Christmas decorations and I become sad.

I love having them out.  The house feels so much more cozy and warm when the decorations are out.  Plus I love all the lights and when the house is lit up with them. :cheerful:  I purposfully leave them up long after Christmas just for that reason!

veggie lunch

We took a break for lunch.  Morningstar Chic patty on a sandwich thin with romaine, colby jack, and a small amount of olive oil mayo.  With some carrots, cucumber, and leftover asparagus. Scott had some baked BBQ chips on the side and I may or may not have had a few.

After lunch it was more cleanup around the house.  Finally around 3ish, the snow stopped.  We gave it another half hour to see if it truly had stopped, and it did.  So we headed out for some shoveling.

It was so warm outside I had to take my jacket off! :o  It had to have been in the 30s which seems like crazy warm compared to what we’ve been having.  Shoveling was not fun.  We had about a foot of snow on top of 1/2 inch of ice.  The snow was wet and heavy and combined with the ice made for a frustrating shovel experience.  It went much quicker though because our neighbor has a snow blower and he came over and helped us out.  Then I headed out back to shovel the deck.  When it was all said it done, it took us about 2 hours or so to finish the work.  Scott working more than I because I got cold.  I shoveled the deck but he scraped off all the ice and then went out in the yard and dug some pathways for Rocky.

By the time he came back in I was hungry and he was munchy.

I made us some small salads:

  • Spinach
  • Romaine
  • Cranberries
  • Pecans and walnuts
  • Sunflower and pumpkin seeds
  • Chopped red delicious
  • Sprinkle of blueberry bear naked

All topped with some maple balsamic dressing that I made.  We figured the power was back for good and turned the computers back on.  Checked mail quick and other things to get semi caught up for the day.  Then Scott headed up to shower and I started on dinner.  I actually was fine but I knew Scott needed more than that small salad for dinner.  I already put some pork chops in a brine earlier in the day, so I pulled those out.

We had porkchops and pierogies with some sauerkraut.  I only had 1/4 of my chop and one pierogie with kraut.  I didn’t even eat all that either.

After dinner and cleanup it was time to hit the couch for some much needed rest.  We watched TV for the rest of the night.  We split a fireside nut brown while watching CSI.  And then we split a honey porter with some chocolate chips while watching 24 (I actually had a few sips of each, Scott was enjoying the beer more ;) ).  Admittedly 24 is the only show holding my interest right now.  Everything else bores me and I may just give them the axe. I would rather watch documentaries and shows on Discovery.  Does that make me stogy and old?  I don’t know.

After that I went to bed because I was tired and my back was a wee bit sore.  What a day!

  1. Sounds like a busy day. I’m glad your power came back on fairly quick. We missed the bruiser ice storm but N and NE Arkansas could be without power for up to 2 weeks.

  2. Yuck on that weather and glad you guys didn’t have to get out in it and that your power came back on. We watch 24, too. It’s better than last season so far, but some of their plot lines are becoming a little to repetitive from season to season.
