November 22nd, 2008: Lunch and dinner

Hi guys! Wow what a super long day we have had. I am ready to just crash on the couch. Tonight would be the perfect night for wine but alas, I had wine two nights in a row so it’s time to detox for a few days.

After MT Class (which was cold! brrr! the gym is in a warehouse so heat is limited) we ran to the butchers where I got some awesome things! Typically I only shop for meats twice a month (once at the butcher, once at WF) and stock up. Then I don’t have to buy meat again for a very long time, like 3 months or so. One of the things I got was a nice pork loin roast, french cut. I plan on making that sometime during the xmas holiday. Christmas day I make a standing rib roast, so I’m going to have to plan this year and figure out how everything is going to work. :p

November 22nd, 2008: Breakfast

Good morning guys!! I have 10 hours of sleep under my belt, so I’m ready to face the day! When we got back last night, I changed into my jammies first thing. We snuggled on the bed for a minute with Rocks who was waiting for us. And I started crashing hard. I was going to stay up but decided just to go to bed and was in bed by 10:10pm. Wheee! Bonus, Rocky letting me sleep till 8am this morning. :woohoo:

Everything was still really frosty when I took Rocks out for his potty run this morning. So it must have been really cool last night! The weather changes so much, we were supposed to have snow yesterday and today, but nothing. Which I guess works out because we need some shingles replaced on our roof, and for the time being no precipitation is a good thing.

Can we talk about my Eddie Bauer skirt for a sec? I love this thing, the length is perfect, the color is awesome, and I like that it can be dressed up or made casual. What I don’t like is that it’s too big on me now!!! I just bought that thing like last month right? I’ll have to check the blog but I could have sworn it was October when we went to the warehouse. *sigh* I’m done with the woe is me post.

November 21st, 2008: Dinner

YaY! Date nite!! Scott decided for us and said we were going out to dinner. I said “okay!” and scurried off upstairs so I could get ready. This gave me the perfect excuse to wear a skirt and get all fancied up. I picked out my Eddie Bauer skirt I just bought and put on my black boots.

We decided on a seafood restaurant that is pretty close to our house. In the two and a half years that we have lived here, we have never gone there to eat! Both of us wanted seafood (we love seafood so much!) and decided to give this a shot.

We got there and were asked if we had reservations. Noooo, I didn’t even think about it. “That will be a 40 minute wait.” “Sure!”

Normally I would have balked at that and walked out. But we hardly ever go out, just us, so the theme of the night was “balls in!”, which in our house means just do it!

Full glass

Full glass

Hi guys! I’m doing a lunch post because I’m not sure what Scott and I are doing for dinner this evening. We’re either staying in or having a date night and going out. Both sound appealing to me, especially date night because then I can wear a skirt!

Can we discuss how cold it was this morning for my run? It was 20degrees with 10mph winds which brought wind chill with it. Brrrr! I had my toboggan on and my hood up! I have to roll my hood a little bit because it’s too big for my head. :p I look goofy but it works!

I did my new longerish route today because I didn’t run yesterday and my shins were just peachy so I piled on the miles!! It took me a little longer thanks to the wind. Thank you Mo’ Nature for deciding I needed some resistance training during my run today! I was the only one out and about, I didn’t see any other joggers today.

November 21st, 2008: Breakfast

Morning guys! Ugh, I definitely had too much wine last night. Stupid over-filling the glasses. I’m okay and I don’t have a hangover (I don’t get those, lucky me!) I just slept like crap and feel a bit slooowww. I half expected to wake up to snow today but it’s all sunshiney and loverly out.

It didn’t even seem too cold when I took Rocks out for his potty run this morning. All I could think about was oats! Since I picked up some Silk at WF yesterday, I wanted to make a nice bowl of oats this morning.

I tried out my new fav combo in the oats. I made the regular batch of oats and then my mix-ins were some cranberry jelly and a spoonful of dark chocolate PB.

The closeups of my oats didn’t look too appealing, so it’s just the full shot today.  Had that along with morning coffee. The oats turned out just okay but it’s a much better combo with yogurt because you get more of the cranberry flavor which seemed to get a little muted in the oats.

At the salon, as I was waiting for my stylist to come out, the lady who does all my waxings came out into the lobby and then my stylist came out. So I got to chat with them both for a minute! I love these two ladies! I’m lucky to have found them! :D I got my hair cut quick as it just needed a wee trim and then Scott and I were off to WF.

I seriously only planned on getting lunch stuff, some chick broth, and some more canned pumpkin. Oh and Silk! But they were having some really great sales on things and I knew that I would be able to get them cheaper there than at my other grocery store, so I ended up getting more than planned. I was also really hungry which didn’t help the situation. Scott picked up some sushi and I picked up some things to make for lunch when we got back.

Pumpkin Penne

Pumpkin

Pumpkin

I love pumpkin and one thing I have resolved to do this year was to be more creative with foods. To experiment more and branch out more. I have been doing that a lot with pumpkin.

Pumpkin doesn’t have to be just regulated to pies and I’m sure all of you are aware of this fact already. I’m new to the party. Pumpkin can be savory? Pumpkin can be spicy? Well smack my bottom, let’s get this party started!

Some of you might be aware of the Blogger Secret Ingredient contest that has been going around. Well this week, Lindsay is hosting and she picked pumpkin. Since my new found love of experimenting with pumpkin, I wanted to create something that I could enter in this week’s contest.

The idea came to me earlier this week and I pondered it a bit before fully deciding what I was going to make and how exactly I was going to make it. Pumpkin Penne was the result!

Warm up

Warm up

Morning guys!  Last night after SF class, we took Rocky for a quick walk around the block and then it was time to get snug.  Woo it was chilly last night!  I made us some tea and snackies.

We had peppermint tea and on the plate is some cornbread (I love cornbread as a snack, especially with morning coffee.  Anyone else?) raisins and dried apricots.  I had three apricots and a piece of the bread with my tea.  I think I actually stayed up till 11:30 last night!  Then I was passing out.  I was actually yawning during SF class because that class starts late and ends late (for me) and my body starts winding down during class.

Last night had a rough patch as Scott got a coughing fit.  It’s the last stages of his cold where you’re fine but your throat is still a bit dry and once you get the throat tickle it’s all downhill from there.  Once he got up and got some ginger ale (we use carbonated drinks to “scratch” our throats to make them feel better.  Anyone else do that?  It works great!) he was able to combat it.  But it took like an hour and a half. :(  Poor hunnies.

Up close

Up close

Hi guys! I did a little bit of work and then I got Scott up for the day. I changed into my running gear and was out the door. It was cold but it wasn’t as cold as yesterday which is good because yesterday was brrrrr! I kept a very nice easy pace, my HR was in the low 160s the whole time. I realized how much of a great pace this is for me. Sure I may not burn off as many cals but I’m still burning something so it’s all good. I did my new longer route again today which I forgot to measure yesterday. I will do it today for sure! Since I wasn’t running as fast, it took me around 31 minutes to complete which isn’t that bad of a time. As I ran I was basking in the gloriousness of winter running. I love it! I so much prefer cold running to hot running. However check back in come January and see if I still feel the love.

Review: Leinenkugel’s Fireside Nut Brown

Fireside Nut Brown

Fireside Nut Brown

When it comes to alcoholic beverages, I only like two categories: beer and wine.

With wine, I’ll drink whatever you throw at me. With beer, I’m a little more picky. I like darker beers and I do not dig on wheat beers (of course there are exceptions). I never drink a light beer because I might as well just drink water. And I don’t drink cheap beer. I will try everything at least once, maybe twice, just so I can be certain in my opinion. Really when I break it down, it doesn’t seem too picky. Right?

I am a sucker for seasonal beers and I’m a sucker for flavored beers. I will head straight toward them like a moth to a flame.

My love for trying seasonal items explains why I have this Fireside Nut Brown by Leinenkugel’s in my possession. As I was perusing the beer aisle at my local grocery store (Thank you Ohio for allowing us to buy beer at the grocery store!) my eye fell up on this. I have had some Leinenkugel’s beers in the past and they have been good beers. The description of this beer talked about sitting by a fireside on a cold night and warming up with this beer. You had me at fireside, Leinenkugel’s! I picked up a sixer and was on my way.
