November 21st, 2008: Dinner

YaY! Date nite!! Scott decided for us and said we were going out to dinner. I said “okay!” and scurried off upstairs so I could get ready. This gave me the perfect excuse to wear a skirt and get all fancied up. I picked out my Eddie Bauer skirt I just bought and put on my black boots.

We decided on a seafood restaurant that is pretty close to our house. In the two and a half years that we have lived here, we have never gone there to eat! Both of us wanted seafood (we love seafood so much!) and decided to give this a shot.

We got there and were asked if we had reservations. Noooo, I didn’t even think about it. “That will be a 40 minute wait.” “Sure!”

Normally I would have balked at that and walked out. But we hardly ever go out, just us, so the theme of the night was “balls in!”, which in our house means just do it!

Hey, it's us!

Hey, it's us!

To help pass the time we took pictures and people watched. That’s us sitting on the very hard wooden bench in the bar/waiting area.

His and hers

His and hers

That’s a picture of our piggies. Check out the black boot hawtness! Sorry that part of my cracker thigh is blinding you. I tried to tone down the brightness as best I could.

Things we saw:

  • A guy sitting at the bar with 80s Rod Stewart hair. His name was Mike and he sold insurance. I know this because he talked really loudly.
  • Apparently there are still members out there, because we saw a gentleman wearing a Members Only jacket. He must have been part of the elite squad because his jacket was white! Which is a rare sight indeed.
  • A gentleman all dressed up looking spiffy, except for his white ankle socks which looked lovely paired with his dress shoes. Oh wait, that was my husband. (Oh snap!)
mmmm wine

I ordered a glass of Coppola Malbec. Normally I don’t drink wine on Friday nights because of MT class on Saturday mornings. But I stuck to the theme of the night and just ordered a glass since we were out. I got red because it affects me the least. White can go right to my head if I’m not careful and I saw others drinking wine and knew the pour was a big one.

Bread and oil

Bread and oil

Our waitress brought out some warm bread with dipping oil. The bread was yummy. The oil was just okay and actually tasted like something I make at home. Scott ordered a Sam Adam’s Winter Lager and I had a few sips of that throughout the night. It was a little too wheaty for me at first, but I started getting used to it. Don’t think I could have a whole bottle of it though.

mussels

mussels

For a starter we ordered the mussels in a garlic lemon wine sauce. We figured it would be your standard-sized appetizer but were surprised at the huge pile of food! It was soooo good. The mussels were perfectly cooked which resulted in a nice smooth texture. The sauce they were in was fantastic and we started dipping our bread in there. I had two pieces of bread and stopped. I didn’t want to load up on carbs.

my choice

I picked one of the specials, and had the Lobster Thermidor Mahi Mahi. As soon as I saw lobster I was hooked.

Scott's plate

Scott's plate

Scott picked a stuffed longfin which had shrimp and crab on the inside with a cream sauce on top. He got rice as a side. I picked at his a bit and he had some of mine. His meal was amazing and if we go back, I would order that!

It’s hard to tell from the picture but the slice of mahi mahi is a really thick portion. My meal was yummy but the best part was actually the whipped potatoes. They were perfectly creamy and super garlicky!

extra green

I ordered some asparagus on the side for some extra veggie greenage. I split them with Scott. Just a basic steamed asparagus, nothing too fancy. I did not eat the entire plate even though I wanted to! Despite the appetizer portion being huge, the meal portions were perfectly sized. I was afraid they were also going to be gigantic. I have about a quarter of the meal left. I wasn’t hungry anymore so I decided there was no reason for me to keep eating, (although I wanted to! Did I mention that already?). Scott saved some of his meal too, so leftovers on the menu for today.

I also impulsively ordered another glass of wine! :o We were in the middle of our meal when I ordered it. I immediately regretted it because I didn’t need another glass. However, our waitress never came back so I assumed she forgot and we finished our meal. She asked if we needed a box and went to get that for us. When she brought the check is when she brought me the second glass. :thud: So Scott and I split it.

We had the best time last night! And our dining experience was amazing and long. Our dinner was 1.5 hours! That’s not including the 40 minute wait. So yeah, we were gone for a while. I crashed when we got back home and went straight to bed.
