October 15th, 2008: Morning

Hi guys! The alarm came early this morning. Oy! I set my alarm for 6:40 and allow myself 5 minutes of waking up time. Then I have to get my butt out of bed and get moving. I was weaving all over the place as I walked to the bathroom. :p I knew it was going to be another warm day so I put on a tee-shirt and my summer running pants. Which are starting to become a little too big and baggy on me. :woohoo: I’ll have to get some new pants for next year.

I was getting a little cranky with my HRM today. I decided to bump up my speed and do some intervals of pace then fast running. When I ran fast I focused on really extending my legs as far as they could go so I could cover a good bit of distance. I was thinking of working on my thighs, speed, breathing, and HR as I did the speed intervals. I got my HR up to 178 for my max. I did two intervals of the speed “round” and was feeling really good about those. I was running pretty fast and my legs were taking nice big long strides. I did this just on my normal run route. I came back home and checked my HRM. I felt like my cals burned should have gone up a bit because I was able to get my HR up and keep it there for a few minutes. Plus when I was running at a pace my HR was in the 160s. Imagine my surprise when my cals burned wasn’t different at all. My max HR was 178 with an average of 158. Not only didn’t the cals burned increase, l compared it to last week and saw that I had a run with a max HR of 168 with an average of 158 and I burned more cals during that run! *grumblegrumble* I will figure this out and I will increase my HR and my cals burned!

After I grumpily drank my CS, I was back out the door with Rocks. It’s starting to stay darker longer in the mornings. My runs now take place in the dark and the sun doesn’t start to peek out until I’m halfway through Rocky’s walk. We had a nice walk today as it was warm but not too warm that it makes you feel icky.

After we got back home, I changed my clothes and pulled out the Wii Fit. I did the yoga exercises/stretches. Then I moved on to strength training to give the pushups a try. Yeah those aren’t going to work for me. You have to do the pushups on the balance board and it’s not a wide enough position for me. When I do pushups my hands are at my shoulders or slightly wider. On the balance board they are in close, so close that pushups turn to working the triceps instead of shoulders. Not that working the tricpes is bad, it’s just not what I’m going for when I do pushups. Oh well, I’ll have to take a look at the other ones and see what those are like.

Since we are out of bananas, I didn’t have oats this morning. Booo! We are going to have to stop for bananas today because I can’t go too long without oats. I had 1/2 c of 0% fage, 1/3 c of homemade granola, extra cranberries and a spoonful of dark chocolate PB.

Had that along side coffee + creamer, which was sooooo much better this morning. Good job Scott! Mmm, I actually enjoyed drinking my coffee. Hooray!

Off to get some things accomplished today! See you later!

P.S.  And this is my 100th post!  :O  Wow!

  1. How are you liking your Wii Fit — do you think it really helps? I’ve been debating on getting one, but I haven’t really seen one in person yet to see if it would be the right fit for me. Congrats on your looser pants :)

I caught an earlier bus today at 7:20 and it was still pretty dark outside.
